BIO

Compared to many of his chart-topping EDM peers, DJ Snake keeps a relatively low profile: He doesn’t do many interviews, and he’s rarely photographed without a pair of oversized black sunglasses. Instead, the French-Algerian producer (born William Grigahcine in 1986) lets his music do the talking. With a range that extends from earthshaking trap to lilting tropical house, DJ Snake doesn’t have an obvious stylistic signature; instead, his fingerprints are audible in details like precision-tooled snares, vividly tweaked vocal samples, and an almost three-dimensional approach to sound design. Raised in Paris, the former graffiti artist and hip-hop DJ first broke through by working on Lady Gaga’s “Government Hooker,” but it was his 2013 song “Turn Down for What”—a battering ram of a trap anthem made all the more antic by Lil Jon’s ranted, titular refrain—that kicked open the doors to the world stage. Two years later, teaming up with Major Lazer and MØ, he showed a more sensitive side on “Lean On,” which paired slo-mo house with crystalline finger-snaps and one of the year’s most infectious choruses. Since then, on his 2016 debut album, Encore, and elsewhere, he’s continued to expand the limits of his sound—giving Justin Bieber the world’s most opulent air mattress to fall into on the buoyant “Let Me Love You,” or unspooling slinky, acoustically tinged Afrobeats for Nigerian singer Niniola on “Maradona Riddim.” It’s an ironic title: Diego Maradona is one of the world’s most flamboyant figures in soccer, while DJ Snake, true to his namesake, is as stealthy as they come—you never know where he’s going to strike next.

BIO

As they evolved from '90s French house pioneers to 2000s dance tastemakers to mainstream heroes in the 2010s, Daft Punk remained one of dance music's most iconic acts. With their early singles and 1997's instant-classic debut album Homework, Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter quickly won acclaim for their skill at blending their beloved Chicago house and Detroit techno with pop, funk, indie rock, and hip-hop into nostalgic yet futuristic forms. Not content to just widen electronic music's popularity, on 2001's Discovery they reinvented the then-unfashionable sounds of mid-'80s soft rock and R&B into stylish tracks that also had a childlike wonder. Despite their sizable popularity, Daft Punk were never afraid to challenge their listeners, which they did with 2005's cold and dystopic Human After All. Even when they polarized their audience, there was never any doubt that they staged groundbreaking concerts, and the tour captured on Alive 2007 helped pave the way for arena-sized EDM, particularly in the U.S. With 2013's Random Access Memories, the duo once again looked to the past to create the future, borrowing from prog, disco, and a laid-back West Coast vibe that bucked the predominant trends in electronic music but still resonated with a wide audience. Daft Punk's influence reached further into the mainstream through collaborations with Kanye West and the Weeknd, and the duo's music was sampled by artists ranging from Missy Elliott to the Fall. Though they reinvented themselves continually, wherever Daft Punk went, the rest of pop music followed. After meeting in 1987 as students at Paris' Lycée Carnot secondary school, Bangalter and de Homem-Christo became friends and soon started making music together. In 1992, they formed the band Darlin'. Named after a Beach Boys song, the group featured Bangalter on bass, de Homem-Christo on guitar, and additional guitarist Laurent Brancowitz. Darlin's career was brief: The trio recorded a cover of their namesake song that appeared, along with an original song, on a various artists EP released by Stereolab's label Duophonic (the band also invited Darlin' to play some U.K. shows with them). Following a Melody Maker review that described Darlin's music as "a daft punky thrash," the band broke up. Bangalter and de Homem-Christo began experimenting with electronic music, taking their new project's name from that review and drawing inspiration from pioneers such as Todd Edwards, Juan Atkins, Kraftwerk, Frankie Knuckles, and many more. By September 1993, Daft Punk had readied a demo tape, which they gave to Soma co-founder Stuart MacMillan at a rave at EuroDisney. The label released the duo's debut single, "The New Wave," in April 1994. Instantly hailed by the dance music press as the work of a new breed of house innovators, it was followed by May 1995's "Da Funk," the band's first true hit (the record sold 30,000 copies worldwide and saw thorough rinsings by everyone from Kris Needs to the Chemical Brothers). In 1996, the buzz around Daft Punk led them to sign with Virgin, and the label released the single "Da Funk"/"Musique" that year. Recorded and mixed at the duo's Paris studio Daft House, January 1997's debut album Homework -- named for Daft Punk's D.I.Y. aesthetic -- was a critical and commercial success. The album reached number three in France and stayed on the chart for over a year, while the singles "Da Funk," "Around the World," "Burnin'," and "Revolution 909" charted in France, the U.K., the U.S., and Australia. The duo supported the record with the Daftendirekt tour, while the Homework video collection D.A.F.T.: A Story about Dogs, Androids, Firemen and Tomatoes followed in 1999 and featured clips directed by Roman Coppola, Michel Gondry, and Spike Jonze. To follow their breakthrough debut album, de Homem-Christo and Bangalter reached back to their childhoods in the '70s and '80s and sought to fuse technology with humanity. Once again recorded at Daft House, March 2001's Discovery incorporated disco and synth pop as well as house, garage, and R&B into a sleek, retro-futuristic sound that matched the robotic helmets and gloves the duo introduced with the release of the album. Featuring contributions from heroes such as Romanthony, Edwards, and DJ Sneak, Discovery was an even bigger hit than its predecessor. The album peaked at number two in France and the U.K., while the singles "One More Time," "Digital Love," "Harder, Faster, Better, Stronger," and "Face to Face" also charted in the U.K. and the U.S. That November saw the release of Alive 1997, an edit of the duo's Birmingham, England stop on the Daftendirekt tour. Daft Punk capped the Discovery era in 2003 with Interstella 5555: The 5tory of the 5ecret 5tar 5ystem, an animated film they produced with anime and manga creator Leiji Matsumoto that used the album as its soundtrack. For Daft Punk's third album, the duo took a drastically different approach. Created in six weeks -- as opposed to the two years they spent making Discovery -- with a handful of gear that included an eight-track machine, March 2005's Human After All was a deliberately raw, stark set of songs inspired by George Orwell's Nineteen Eighty-Four. Though its cold, repetitive feel drew polarized reactions, the album fared well commercially: Human After All reached number three in France, was a Top Ten hit in the U.K., and hit number one on the Billboard Top Dance/Electronic Albums chart in the U.S. The set was also nominated for Best Electronic/Dance Album at the 2006 Grammy Awards. Shortly after its release, Human After All [Remixes] collected reworkings by Soulwax, Digitalism, and Erol Alkan among others. April 2006 saw the arrival of Musique, Vol. 1: 1993-2005, a compilation of the duo's best-known songs and remixes accompanied by the videos for Human After All's singles. That May, Daft Punk premiered their film Electroma at the Director's Fortnight at that year's Cannes Film Festival. An experimental sci-fi film about a pair of robots seeking to become human, it began as the video for Human After All's title track before expanding into a feature film (unlike Interstella 5555, the movie did not feature any of Daft Punk's music). Initially earning mixed reviews, over time Electroma won a cult audience. That year, the duo embarked on the Alive tour, which lasted through 2007 and featured some of Daft Punk's most ambitiously staged live sets. Appearing in November 2007, Alive 2007 documented the tour. Early in 2009, the album and its single "Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger" won Grammy Awards. Daft Punk returned with new music in November 2010 in the form of the score to Joseph Kosinski's feature film Tron: Legacy. A collaboration with Joseph Trapanese, who arranged and orchestrated the pair's compositions, it featured an 85-piece orchestra as well as Daft Punk's signature electronics. Bangalter and de Homem-Christo also appeared in the film in a brief cameo. The soundtrack eventually reached number four on the Billboard 200 Albums chart in the U.S. and was nominated for a Best Score Soundtrack Album for Visual Media Grammy Award. Also in 2010, the duo were admitted into the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres, with de Homem-Christo and Bangalter each receiving the rank of Chevalier. The following year saw the April release of the remix album Tron: Legacy Reconfigured, while that September's compilation Soma Records: 20 Years featured the track "Drive," an early recording that was believed to be lost. For their fourth album, Daft Punk once again took a different creative tack. Seeking a breezy feel informed by Fleetwood Mac, the Eagles, and Jean Michel Jarre, the duo emphasized live instrumentation and collaborated with artists including Nile Rodgers, Paul Williams, Giorgio Moroder, and Panda Bear. Pharrell Williams appeared on the single "Get Lucky," which preceded the release of the full-length Random Access Memories in May 2013. Recorded in California, New York City, and Paris and spanning disco, prog, and indie influences, the album became one of Daft Punk's biggest successes. It topped the charts in over 20 countries including the U.S., where it became the duo's first number one album and was eventually certified platinum. It also won Grammy Awards for Best Dance/Electronica Album, Album of the Year, and Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical. "Get Lucky" hit number one in over 30 countries and earned Grammys for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance and Record of the Year. That year, Daft Punk also co-produced Kanye West's critically acclaimed album Yeezus, and worked on tracks including the single "Black Skinhead." In 2014, the duo appeared on Pharrell's album G I R L and collaborated with Jay-Z on the song "Computerized." A 2015 documentary titled Daft Punk Unchained charted their history from the '90s into the 2010s, featuring interviews with Rodgers, Pharrell, and West, among others. In turn, the duo appeared in that year's Rodgers documentary Nile Rodgers: From Disco to Daft Punk. During the latter half of the 2010s, Daft Punk remained active. They teamed up with the Weeknd's Abel Tesfaye on a pair of songs from his 2016 album Starboy, including the chart-topping title track. The following year, the duo performed with the Weeknd at the 59th Annual Grammy Awards; later in 2017, they co-wrote and produced Parcels' "Overnight." During this time, Daft Punk's members also worked on separate projects. Bangalter co-produced Arcade Fire's 2017 album Everything Now and contributed pieces to the soundtrack to Gaspar Noé's 2018 film Climax, while de Homem-Christo co-wrote and produced tracks for Charlotte Gainsbourg's 2017 album Rest and the Weeknd's 2018 EP My Dear Melancholy,. In 2019, Daft Punk were featured in the Philharmonie de Paris' exhibition Electro, which traced the history of electronic music and its influence on visual arts. In February 2021, the duo disbanded, spreading the news with a YouTube video that featured scenes from the end of Electroma. To commemorate the tenth anniversary of Random Access Memories in 2023, Daft Punk issued a pair of re-releases of the album. In May, a deluxe edition of the album featuring unreleased demos (including "Infinity Repeating," which featured Julian Casablancas & the Voidz), outtakes and the version of "Touch" that soundtracked the duo's breakup announcement appeared. The reissue topped the Billboard Dance/Electronic Albums Chart and reached the Top Ten of the Billboard 200 Albums Chart. That November saw the release of a drumless version of the album. ~ Heather Phares & Sean Cooper, Rovi

French electronic music producer and DJ Christophe Le Friant has built a career under the Bob Sinclar moniker, spreading the sounds of French house to international ears from the late '90s and beyond. In the midst of a mid-2000s chart run -- with his trio of Western Dream, Soundz of Freedom, and Born in '69 all certified gold in his native France -- his song "Love Generation" topped charts across the globe in 2005 and he received a Grammy nomination the year after for another chart-topper, "World, Hold On (Children of the Sky)" featuring Steve Edwards. He continued to release charting singles into the 2010s, including the gold-certified chart hits "Feel the Vibe" and "I Believe." In the 2022, "World, Hold On" was reworked by Fisher and became a hit in Australia and the U.K. In addition to making music, he is also the head of the French label Yellow Productions, which he founded in 1993 with Alain Ho. Le Friant made his debut as Chris the French Kiss in the '80s, creating downtempo hip-hop project the Mighty Bop and his acid jazz Réminiscence Quartet. In the late '90s, he started performing as Bob Sinclar (named after a character in the well-known French film Le Magnifique), issuing his debut effort Paradise in 1998. The set charted in France, New Zealand, and the U.K. Sinclar followed in 2000 with Champs Elysees, which was certified gold in France. After 2003's III, he stormed charts across Europe with 2006's Western Dream, home to hit singles "Love Generation," "World, Hold On," "Rock This Party," and "Tennessee." He quickly followed with Soundz of Freedom in 2007, his first Top Ten release. His mid-2000s chart success continued on 2009's Born in '69, which featured appearances by the Sugarhill Gang, Shabba Ranks, Axwell, and Kevin Lyttle. He followed with the sleek Paris by Night mix in 2013. Sinclar continued with non-album single releases, including 2015's gold-certified "Feel the Vibe" with Dawn Tillman, 2016's Top 50 "Someone Who Needs Me," and 2017's "Til the Sun Rise Up" with Akon. BIO

A dance music duo that constantly redefines what that means, Justice adds prog, metal, new wave, and indie to their vintage funk, disco, and house foundations. Starting with the Grammy-nominated 2007 single "D.A.N.C.E." and that year's full-length † (aka Cross), the Parisian duo defined the brash, stylish appeal of their label, Ed Banger Records, in the mid- to late 2000s. Their music grew bolder and more unexpected with each album, whether they cranked up the riffs on 2011's Audio, Video, Disco, collaborated with the London Contemporary Orchestra on 2016's Woman, mashed up their own songs on 2018's Grammy-winning Woman Worldwide, or fused gabber with pop on 2024's Hyperdrama. With every release, Justice have reimagined the genre-bending possibilities of a world where all music is available to hear -- and recombine -- in an instant. Justice's Gaspard Augé and Xavier de Rosnay began making music in the early 2000s, and first appeared on Musclorvision's Hits Up to You!, a 2003 compilation of songs intended to sound like Eurovision song contest entries. That year, Justice also remixed Simian's "Never Be Alone" for a college radio song contest; Ed Banger signed the duo and released the single, which eventually became popular in England and Germany as well as France. In 2005, Augé and de Rosnay released Justice's debut single, "Waters of Nazareth." During this time, they also established themselves as prolific remixers, reworking songs for artists including N.E.R.D., Britney Spears, Death from Above 1979, Fatboy Slim, Daft Punk, Franz Ferdinand, and Mr. Oizo while working on their first album. Justice's breakthrough arrived in 2007 with the release of "D.A.N.C.E.," a catchy single with an attention-getting video that featured animated T-shirts. The duo's first album, † (aka Cross), appeared that June. Conceived as a "disco-opera" album, it incorporated samples from hundreds of sources ranging from the Italian prog rock outfit Goblin to more typical dance music. Topping the U.K. and U.S. dance album charts and peaking at number 11 in France, † was certified gold in the U.K. and attained diamond certification for its sales throughout Europe. The album was nominated for Best Electronic/Dance Album at the 50th Grammy Awards, while "D.A.N.C.E." earned a nomination for Best Dance Recording. Justice spent the better part of 2007 and 2008 performing at festivals around the world, but also issued Justice Xmas Mix, a rejected mix for Fabric that the duo released online, and Planisphère, a four-part track created for the Dior Homme Summer 2009 fashion show that appeared on Justice's MySpace page. The live album and concert film A Cross the Universe appeared in 2008, and the following year, Justice's remix of MGMT's "Electric Feel" won a Grammy for Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical. Remixes of songs by U2 and Lenny Kravitz, as well as production work on the Birdy Nam Nam song "The Parachute Ending," kept them busy in 2009. The following year, the soundtrack to Mr. Oizo's film Rubber, which featured collaborations between Oizo and Augé, appeared. Justice returned in October 2011 with their second album, Audio, Video, Disco. A laid-back affair filled with prog rock sounds, guitars, and new wave-era influences, it reached number five on the French charts and peaked at number two and number four on the U.K. and U.S. dance album charts, respectively. In 2012, Audio, Video, Disco was certified gold in Europe. Justice's tour in support of the album included headlining dates at Miami's Ultra Music Festival, Coachella, and Lollapalooza; the May 2013 live album Access All Arenas captured the duo's performance at Arena of Nîmes in July 2012. By mid-2014, Justice were at work on their third album. They resurfaced in 2016 with a pair of singles (July's "Safe and Sound" and September's "Randy") that arrived ahead of that November's full-length Woman. Described by Augé and de Rosnay as their most joyful music yet, the album featured the London Contemporary Orchestra as well as vocalists including Morgan Phalen, Romuald, and Zoot Woman's Johnny Blake. A Top 20 hit in France, the album topped the U.S. dance albums chart and reached number three on the U.K.'s dance albums chart. While adapting their songs to perform live, Justice liked the reworked versions so much that they recorded them in the studio. The results were Woman Worldwide, which Ed Banger and Because Music issued in August 2018. Reaching number ten on the French album charts and number six on the U.K. dance album charts, Woman Worldwide also won the Grammy Award for Best Dance/Electronic Album. IRIS: A Space Opera by Justice, a film of an hour-long live show Justice performed without an audience, premiered at South by Southwest in March 2019. After the release of Augé's June 2021 solo album Escapades, Justice delivered a pair of reissues in 2022. First up was a vinyl release of Planisphère, which was followed by a 15th anniversary edition of † that featured remixes and demos. Shortly after returning to Coachella with a live show created with the help of a team of seven computer scientists, Justice released April 2024's Hyperdrama. Three-and-a-half years in the making, their fourth proper album was largely recorded in de Rosnay's home studio and added touches of gabber techno -- as well as vocals by Miguel, Tame Impala's Kevin Parker, and Connan Mockasin -- to their disco and funk roots. Hyperdrama received a nomination for Best Dance/Electronic Album at the 67th Annual Grammy Awards, while the song "Neverender" was nominated for Best Dance/Electronic Recording. ~ Heather Phares, Rovi

Though he grew up singing in the church choir and studying classical music, by age 13 French DJ Martin Solveig (born Martin Picandet) had his first pair of turntables and was showing off his skills to his friends. At 18, while working in a local record store, he further discovered the complexity of electronic music, and shortly thereafter was spinning at some of the most prestigious clubs in Paris. In 2001, Solveig worked with Bob Sinclar on Africanism, contributing his track "Edony" to the album. The single went on to be a hit, and after graduating from college, the DJ decided to release a full-length record. Sur la Terre -- which came out in 2002 on his own label, Mixture, and was made using both live and electronic instrumentation -- was also inspired by African rhythms, leading to a remix of Malian singer Salif Keita's song "Malan." In 2004 Solveig decided to move toward American funk and rock, releasing "Rocking Music," sung by Jay Sebag, followed by another full-length, Hedonist, in 2005. A third album, C'est la Vie, was issued in 2008, but it was only with his fourth effort, 2011's aptly titled Smash, that he finally broke through into the mainstream. Home to a number of singles featuring Dragonette, Smash included Solveig's chart-topping hit song "Hello" with the Canadian band, the success of which attracted the interest of Madonna. The singer chose him to work on her album MDNA, and the pair developed a mutual respect and a close working relationship in the studio. Post-MDNA, Solveig continued collaborating, releasing The Night Out EP in 2012; the 2013 single "Hey Now" with the Cataracs, and "Blow" featuring Laidback Luke in 2014. In 2015, Solveig returned with "Intoxicated" with the production duo GTA, as well as the house music-infused "+1," with vocals by Sam White. "Do It Right" with Tkay Maidza and "Places" with Ina Wroldsen arrived the next year, with the Alma-featuring "All Stars" landing in 2017. ~ Marisa Brown & Neil Z. Yeung

Alan Braxe is a singular musician with a rare and restless spirit. His penchant for composition and melody commenced at an early age, with classical training in clarinet and cello. Braxe developed an omnivorous appetite for music in his adolescence, devouring everything from Alexander O'Neal to Heaven 17 and Public Enemy. Before long, Braxe was producing his own viral strain of dance music using only a mixer, a compressor, and an Emu SP1200. Within a year, a handful of Braxe’s early demos attracted Thomas Bangalter’s attention, and Braxe’s debut single, “Vertigo”, was released in 1997 via Bangalter’s influential Roulé label. “Vertigo” was a hallmark of the emerging French Touch sound, and Braxe, Bangalter, and childhood friend Benjamin Diamond decided to join forces for a collaborative project. That project would be called Stardust, and their 1998 single “Music Sounds Better With You” — which they wrote and recorded in one week — arrived as an instant dance music classic, selling over 3 million copies, and earning the trio a canonical spot in the electronic music constellation. Approaching the 20th anniversary of Stardust’s smash success and the Vulture label’s launch, Braxe again takes a radical turn in method. He strips his studio of all things digital and starts to experiment with a Buchla modular synthesizer, echoing his first setup’s minimalism.

The alter ego of French DJ Vincent Belorgey, Kavinsky's blend of influences such as French house, 16-bit video games, and especially '80s synth soundtracks helped give rise to the synthwave movement -- the title of his 2013 full-length, OutRun, is an alternate name for the genre. Often appearing in illustrated form, as on the covers of both the Teddy Boy and 1986 EPs, Kavinsky bears a striking resemblance to the French DJ himself, although the back story Belorgey created to go with his pseudonym is far removed from the artist's own modest history. The story goes that after crashing his Testarossa in 1986, Kavinsky reappeared as a zombie in 2006 to make electronic music. Luckily for Belorgey, his zombie tale serves as a good story line for a music video, as he demonstrated with the early single "Testarossa Overdrive." OutRun, his long-awaited debut album, hit number two on the French album charts. After an extended hiatus, second full-length Reborn appeared in 2022. Born in 1975 in Seine-Saint-Denis, France, Belorgey initially worked as an actor before launching his music career. He stumbled upon electronic production when he was given a discarded Apple computer by Quentin Dupieux, also known as Mr. Oizo. The fully loaded Apple inspired Kavinsky to begin creating his own tracks, while several roles in Mr. Oizo's music videos and the film Steak gave him an opportunity to meet record label executives. A recording contract followed shortly after Belorgey presented his first tracks to Record Makers head Marc Tessier du Cros. In 2006, Belorgey, under the pseudonym Kavinsky, released Teddy Boy, recorded entirely on a Yamaha DX7. The 1986 EP followed in 2007 and Kavinsky was soon touring with Justice, SebastiAn, and Daft Punk. In 2008, he released a third EP, Blazer, on the Fool's Gold label, while 2011 found his "Nightcall" being used in the title sequence for the film Drive. Describing Darius’ music is like trying to gather the infinitely large and the infinitely small or thinking music can be as hedonist as introspective. For almost ten years, the very discreet producer feeds us his dreamy music, filled with cosmic images. Darius cultivates his inspirations since his debut in 2012 when he joined Roche Musique. Inspired by filtered house music from the French Touch era, Darius chose to bring together spatial territories and immersed symbolic, through melodies that make you want to dance as much as dream, like his first EP Romance released on Roche Musique in 2014. With this first project, Darius becomes more meticulous and plays with hypnotic textures when he presents his debut album Utopia in 2017. Beyond uptempo and club songs, Darius unfolds a precise and narrative, flirting somewhere between sound design and a sci-fi movie trailer music. Darius debuts his return in 2020 with a new single titled ‘EQUILIBRIUM’. This brand-new single will turn out to be an almost secrete announce for a new upcoming project from the artist, with singles featuring Benny Sings RISE & Duñe FEELS RIGHT Thus, in mid-April 2022, Darius released his new album, OASIS, presenting once again his musical mute, conductor of a new genre filled with groove and soul, while retaining the electronic touch and dreamy melodies specific to his universe. - Inquiry/Booking World (ex Americas): antoine@divine-musique.com Booking Americas: dlandau@tbaagency.com

After going to the Sziget Festival when he was 18, NTO started to hang out regularly at La Villa Rouge, and Bar Live, two legendary clubs in the South of France. At the time, German minimal techno music was booming and Anthony Favier would spend his nights listening to Stephan Bodzin, James Holden, or the very beginnings of Paul Kalkbrenner.
The story behind NTO is also about his friendship with Worakls and Joachim Pastor, with whom he created Hungry Music in 2013. Performing together on the Olympia’s stage to the Vieilles Charrues Festival, they learned to master the stage. Thanks to his hits "Trauma" and "La clé des champs", which account for several millions of streams on DSPs, NTO's career took off internationally.

The young French prodigy Worakls is a composer above all. As he grew up in a family of musicians, he started to learn the piano at the age of 3. Soon after the Conservatory, he finds in electronic music a perfect way to give his melodies this incomparable onirism and strengh that suit them so well. He draws his creativity from many genres such as movie soundtracks and classical music. In 2014, he creates the label Hungry Music with his friends N’to and Joachim Pastor, allowing him to fully express those influences. Even before the release of his first album, several of his tracks already imposed themselves as classics of a genre. He is now unveiling his new project, Worakls Band, a live performance gathering several musicians (violin, alto, cello, and guitar).

Hugo Leclercq, the Grammy-nominated musician known as Madeon, first appeared to many as something like a teenaged fireball. In 2011, his frantic yet perfectly sculptural “Pop Culture” famously sampled 39 hits, live, from Daft Punk to Solange, instantly propelling the then-17-year-old to the international stage. By the time of his debut album, Adventure, in 2015, Madeon was a globally beloved artist with production credits for Lady Gaga and Coldplay. Soon after, he teamed with longtime friend Porter Robinson for “Shelter,” an immersive, ecstatic single he calls their “victory lap.” Good Faith is this radiant new era. The songs from the album are the sort of pop songs that, by any other artist, would have required hard work from a team of writers and producers. Madeon, of course, wrote and produced them himself. Following the path he began on Adventure with songs like “Home,” he is the sole lead vocalist on each of the new tracks. “I love to make that kind of music mostly on my own -- you’re not really supposed to be able to make it that way,” he says. Often, Madeon can seem as much a musician as a world-building architect, and there’s no question his full vision for Good Faith is shining through in high definition, standing as a brilliant statement of new purpose. Good Faith, which debuted at #1 on Billboard’s Dance/Electronic Albums chart and received a Grammy nomination for Best Dance/Electronic Album, was released on November 15, 2019.

Though it's a sure bet he'll linger in the minds of most for his omnipresent Levi's advert and 1999 European chart-topper "Flat Beat," music video director Quentin Dupieux turned in some excellent electronic productions as Mr. Oizo. Far from the madding crowds of ad-oriented hipster trance or jungle, "Flat Beat" was a midtempo techno production with heavily distorted effects and a playful nature that fit perfectly with the visual focus, a lovable yellow puppet. Following the infectious single's freak success, Dupieux continued releasing bizarre, innovative Mr. Oizo records, influencing numerous styles of left-field dance music. While still a teenager, Dupieux began directing short films for French television, and turned in no less than eight works between 1994 and 1998. His associations with the music world began in 1997, when leading French dance citizen Laurent Garnier serendipitously bought a car from Dupieux's father. Dupieux directed the video for Garnier's "Flashback" single, as well as the long-form video Nightmare Sandwiches, starring and featuring music by Garnier. That year, he also moved into music production, with his debut single, "#1," appearing on Garnier's F Communications label. After the video he (naturally) directed for second single "M-Seq" landed on an ad-agency desk, he was tapped to direct the commercial that launched Levi's vaunted non-denim line of trousers. The eccentric advert -- featuring a puppet named Flat Eric maniacally bobbing his head to the music in the passenger seat of a Chevelle while a nonplussed human driver concentrated on the road -- soon became famous across Europe, and the single (also on F Communications) hit number one all across the Continent. (It eventually sold over two million copies.) The obligatory full-length, Analog Worms Attack, followed in October, and earned American distribution early the following year. Dupieux also directed the video for "Party People" by Alex Gopher. After taking some time off to update his studio from analog to digital, his computer-driven album Moustache (Half a Scissor) arrived in 2005. The glitchy, frenetic album was a major left turn from his previous work, and was deemed "unlistenable" by the very label that released it, F Communications. Nevertheless, the album obtained a small cult following, and ended up being influential to the emerging generation of French dance producers spearheaded by Justice and the Ed Banger label. Appropriately enough, Mr. Oizo signed with Ed Banger in 2006, with the Transexual EP following on the label in 2007. Dupieux's first feature film, Steak, was also released that year; its soundtrack was written by him as well as SebastiAn and Sébastien Tellier. The full-length Lambs Anger landed in 2008 as the most dance-oriented Oizo album to date, and featured guest artist Uffie. After working on Uffie's 2010 debut album, Sex Dreams and Denim Jeans, Dupieux collaborated with Gaspard Augé of Justice for the soundtrack to his next film, Rubber. The fourth proper Oizo full-length was the 2011 effort Stade 2, an album that brought back some of the dissonance and glitch. Also that year, Moustache (Half a Scissor) was given its first vinyl release by Brainfeeder, the label founded by Flying Lotus. Film work occupied the next few years as Dupieux directed Wrong (2012) and Wrong Cops (2013), both of the films accompanied by Mr. Oizo soundtracks. The latter film featured an appearance by Marilyn Manson, who also sang on the track "Solid" on Mr. Oizo's 2013 EP Amicalement. Dupieux returned to Brainfeeder for 2014's The Church, which highlighted Mr. Oizo's cartoonish darkness and fondness for West Coast hip-hop stylings. Back on Ed Banger, his 2015 single "Hand in the Fire" featured vocals from pop star Charli XCX. A vastly different version of the song appeared on Mr. Oizo's 2016 full-length, All Wet, which also featured appearances by Peaches, Boys Noize, Skrillex, and others. ~ John Bush, Rovi

One of the few producers to pursue a real fusion of jazz and house music, Frenchman Ludovic Navarre began recording in the early '90s using various aliases (Subsystem, Modus Vivendi, Deepside) for a range of French imprints. St. Germain debuted in 1994 for Laurent Garnier's F Communications label and Navarre released his first album, Boulevard, in 1996. Featuring trumpeter Pascal Ohse, the album worked as a hybrid of American R&B and jazz with the growing French house scene exemplified by Garnier, La Funk Mob, and Dimitri from Paris. Tourist, issued at the turn of the century by Blue Note, took the concept further, with Navarre working post-production on a fuller complement of musicians. Navarre has also remixed such varying artists as Björk, Pierre Henry, and the Suburban Knight. As St. Germain he signed with Nonesuch in early 2015. In May he announced a self-titled offering -- his first album of new material in 15 years. Inspired by his longtime love of Malian music, the album was recorded in Navarre's Paris studio. His stable of studio musicians included Brazilian percussionist Jorge Bezerra, Malian kora player Mamadou Cherif Soumano, Malian guitarist and n'goni player Guimba Kouyate, and longtime associate Martiniquais keyboardist Didier Davidas. St. Germain's pre-release single "Real Blues" was issued in May, while the album was released that October. ~ John Bush, Rovi

Whether he’s winning Grammys for production on the Black Eyed Peas album ‘The E.N.D’, producing top 10 hits for Silk City & Dua Lipa or remixing N.E.R.D & Daft Punk, Foals, Gorillaz or Bloc Party; whether he’s firing underground techno cannons on Solomun’s Diynamic or slinky sleazy disco on Skrillex’s OWSLA; whether he’s working with the likes of Stuart Price, Aeroplane, Steve Angello or Ten Ven or conjuring up full strength club tracks on his own; Alex thrives off contrast, variety and the pursuit of personally unchartered pastures. 2020 will see Alex embark on a new journey with his long-time collaborator Henry Smithson (AKA Riton), the UK based Grammy award winning Producer, Artist, and DJ. The new project called KUU will be launching in the summer of 2020 in partnership with Warner Records. Heavy influenced by the first wave of UK/Balearic house and the post disco euro beats of the eighties, Alex intends to soundtrack 2021 and beyond.

A producer that’s perpetually reinventing himself, Vitalic is able to mix techno, rock, disco, pop and punk with equal energy. And yet Vitalic is much more than just the sum of his studio albums - from the very beginning of his career, he has proved his love for electronic live shows, a genre that he has legitimised (in the same way as Etienne de Crécy, Daft Punk and Justice, for example) through his electrifying, near-psychedelic concerts. Remixing the greats such as Daft Punk, Björk, Royksopp, Paul Kalkbrenner but also Indochine, Etienne Daho, Mylène Farmer, Amadou and Mariam and many others, Vitalic never stops. He forms the duo KOMPROMAT with Rebeka Warrior, and in the process, celebrates twenty years of his career in 2021, announcing the release of his fifth album DISSIDÆNCE. He’s collaborated with Miss Kittin, The Hacker, Kiddy Smile, I Hate Models and more recently NTO. Vitalic works also as soundtrack movie composer (The Legend of Kaspar Hauser by Davide Manulli & Disco Boy by Giacomo Abbruzzese nominated at Cesar 2024 in the best soundtrack movie category, winner of Prix Lumière in this same category)

Dance music producer, remixer, and DJ Pierre-Alexandre Busson, known foremost as Yuksek, studied piano at a conservatory for several years prior to recording as DJ Pea and joining a series of bands, including the electropop, new wave-inspired Klanguage. The Reims, France native went by Yuksek as early as 2002, when he initiated a series of EPs for Hypnotic Music presented by Fafa Monteco. Additional 12" releases for Hypnotek, Rise, Relish, and I'm a Cliché, along with remixes of tracks by Chromeo, Teenage Bad Girl, and Birdy Nam Nam, preceded the first Yuksek album, 2009's Away from the Sea, released on Barclay. Over the course of the next few years, Busson added a sizable batch of remixes to his discography, including ones for the Prodigy's "Invaders Must Die," Moby's "Mistake," and Lady Gaga's "Paparazzi." Second studio album Living on the Edge of Time, released on Barclay in 2011, offered a tightly concentrated set of Busson's most melodic, song-oriented material. Meanwhile, the producer continued to release non-album singles and EPs, such as the first release for his Partyfine label, subsequently a home for releases by Black Yaya and Peter & the Magician (the latter a duo consisting of Busson and Aeroplane's Stephen Fasano). By early 2015, Busson's discography had swollen with remixes of Katy Perry's "Peacock," Empire of the Sun's "DNA," and Lana Del Rey's "Brooklyn Baby." His own song "Sweet Addiction" hit the Top 40 in France in 2016, and his third full-length, Nous Horizon, arrived on Partyfine in early 2017. It featured guests such as Her, Monika, and Juveniles. ~ Andy Kellman

BIO

Cassius, a long-running project that was a new addition to the top ranks of French electronica circa 1999, actually comprised two of the scene's most experienced producers: Philippe Zdar and Hubert Blanc-Francart (aka Boombass). Besides their productions for Mo' Wax as La Funk Mob, the duo had also manned the boards for several excellent LPs by French rapper MC Solaar. They first met back in the late '80s, working in the same studio (Zdar was an engineer, and Boombass was just learning the trade). Boombass worked with MC Solaar, and joined Zdar to release two EPs on Mo' Wax as La Funk Mob in 1994. Zdar also teamed with Etienne De Crecy (of Super Discount) to release an LP as Motorbass. Finally, Zdar and Boombass came together in 1996 as Cassius. Combining the jazzy hip-hop of Boombass with Zdar's phase'n'filter acid-disco, Cassius debuted with the single "Cassius 1999," a club anthem and British Top 20 hit, late in 1998. The full-length 1999 appeared early the following year. Cassius returned in 2002 with Au Rêve and again in 2006 with 15 Again. The group would spend the next decade on hiatus, although Zdar kept busy with production and remixes, working with the likes of Chromeo, Phoenix, Cat Power, and the Beastie Boys. The latter two artists returned the favor when the duo re-emerged in 2016 with "Action," featuring Cat Power and the Beasties' Mike D. The single landed on the concept album Ibifornia, released later that same year. Philippe Zdar died in June 2019 after falling from the window of a tall building. ~ John Bush, Rovi

Agoria is not like any other rave child. At the beginning of the 90s, he experienced a golden age where history was written with each new evening. Since then, as one of the pioneers who invented techno in France, he has proven himself by escaping from the framework that he himself has contributed to creating and ventured successfully into the universe of cinema, fashion and contemporary art. This desire to compose real music for today, while avoiding the codes that often stifle it, found its peak with the album "Impermanence" in 2011 and even more with "Drift", in 2019. More than any other of his albums, "Drift" confirmed his talent for the sensuality of melodies and modernist productions, without denying his electronic roots. Agoria's desire "to constantly try new adventures", lead him to create the label Sapiens. In 2020 Olivier Van Hoofstadt the director asked him to compose the soundtrack for "Lucky". Agoria also wrote music for the serie by Jan Kounen "The Show". The wealth of experiences lead him to collaborate with the visual artist Philippe Parreno with whom he participated in the writing of the soundtrack for the immersive installation for the Tate Modern. But it was during the last edition of Art Basel, where Agoria, was invited to present his work for the first time. His pieces were hailed by the famous American magazine "Interior Design" as one of the strong points of the '2019 edition. The Agoria story goes on, and he will soon return with another new album

Malaa's forte is stern if frequently humor-laced bass house tracks. Concealing his face in a balaclava, he's presented with an air of mystery, fueling speculation about his true identity. An early press bio dropped a crumb by referring to him as Parisian. Theories regarding his identity have also been fostered by an affiliation with Pardon My French, a collective that includes DJ Snake and Tchami; multiple dance music media outlets have theorized that Malaa's recordings are actually a joint effort from those DJs/producers. Malaa's prolific output dates back to 2015 and includes the albums Don Malaa (2022), Veni, Vidi, Vici (co-credited to Tchami, 2024), and All In (2025), plus mixtapes, EPs, singles, and remixes numbering in the dozens. Tracks such as "Notorious," "Revolt," and "Made in France" are among Malaa's commercial highlights. Fool's Gold Records hosted the 2015 debut Malaa single, "Pregnant," immediately after which Tchami's Confession label became the supplier of roughly a dozen Malaa singles and EPs across 2016 and 2017. Among Malaa's most popular releases during this period were "Notorious" and the Tchami collaboration "Prophecy," while the artist also began to accumulate remix credits, highlighted by his commissioned work on Skrillex and Diplo's Jack Ü track "Mind." Maala released the project's Illegal Mixtape and Illegal Mixtape II, respectively, in 2017 and 2018, and during the latter year, he and Tchami went on the No Redemption Tour, promoted with a compilation of the same title that contained exclusive remixes. Malaa's 2019 releases included the high-energy singles "Revolt" (featuring Jacknife) and "Criminals" (featuring Rezz), and he, Tchami, and fellow Pardon My French member Mercer also assisted DJ Snake with "Made in France." Several additional singles and the third Illegal Mixtape led to the 2022 release of Malaa's first proper album. Titled Don Malaa, the LP boasted collaborations with rappers Ghostface Killah, Fivio Foreign, and Jadakiss. DJ Snake and A-Trak also provided assistance on a track each. Shortly thereafter, Don Malaa: After Hours gathered remixes from Siwell, Subshift, and KOOS, among others, and Malaa presented the fourth Illegal Mixtape. In January 2025, Malaa unloaded two albums: All In, featuring an appearance from Jeremih on the opening title track, and Blackout, a more varied set billed as the work of Malaa's alter ego. ~ Andy Kellman, Rovi

Entirely Trip Hop, with a cinematographic atmosphere, this record is a return to his basics in the tradition of his legendary album “A Grand Love Story”. Among the notable guests on this album, we find the London legend Don Letts , the voice of Trip-Hop Horace Andy and Lex Amor. Lisa Li-Lund, Louise Quinn, Olga Kouklaki, and Annie O’Connell bring the feminine touch that has always been a hallmark of the Kid from Belleville's albums. Breakbeat, groovy bass, captivating vocals and layers of synthesizers are all emblematic elements of the Kid Loco universe which make this album a must-have in his discography.
