BIO
A superstar DJ, sought-after producer, taste-making label owner, and wizard behind Major Lazer, Diplo (aka Diplodocus, Wes Diplo, and Wes Gully) launched his career on the fringes of dance music. With his mash-up mixtapes, he found and created a sound where his musical tastes -- '80s pop, electronica, Dirty South hip-hop, and his major influence, Miami bass music -- intersect. His attention-grabbing projects Hollertronix, with partner DJ Low Budget, and the Piracy Funds Terrorism, Vol. 1 mixtape, with British-Sri Lankan MC M.I.A., made a heavy impact on the alternative electro-pop scene, amassing rave reviews from music critics and indie kids alike. Later, his Mad Decent imprint presented the edge of pop, hip-hop, and dance music while his conceptual Major Lazer project mixed dancehall with rave culture and toured the globe as a live-party sound system. By the late 2010s, super duos with Skrillex (Jack Ü) and Mark Ronson (Silk City) both yielded Grammy wins for collaborations with Justin Bieber and Dua Lipa, respectively. Diplo was born Thomas Wesley Pentz in Tupelo, Mississippi. Although he lived in a few different cities in the South, he mainly grew up in South Florida. He spent his youth in his father's bait shop and fixated on manatees, alligators, and dinosaurs with hopes of becoming a paleontologist. However, he wound up pursuing an education in film studies, starting at a couple Florida colleges but finishing up his undergraduate degree in Philadelphia at Temple University in 2003. Before his move to Philadelphia, Pentz had moved temporarily to Japan to escape daily life in America. He sent a demo tape of his beat concoctions to Will Ashon, founder of U.K. independent hip-hop label Big Dada Records, and once signed to the label, he relocated to Philadelphia. To support himself during and after graduating from Temple, Pentz took on a few different jobs in Philadelphia: social worker, after-school mentor, movie theater employee, and gig-by-gig DJ. He was barely able to pay the rent, and the frustration was stunting his musical development (although he does credit one of his musical epiphanies to the after-school students who exposed him to crunk and Baltimore club music). Thus, Diplo and like-minded DJ Low Budget pooled their resources to start up their own club nights in Philadelphia, which they branded Hollertronix. It simply began as a fun night of genre-warping dance music, but blossomed into an underground subculture, drawing out crowds from all over the East Coast. Under the Hollertronix moniker, Diplo and Budget released the highly praised Never Scared mixtape; it was listed as one of the New York Times' top albums of 2003. The following year, Big Dada released Diplo's solo debut album, Florida, a more downtempo piece focusing on melody and instrumentals that was a departure from the melee of mashed-up vocals and beats. His unrelenting work ethic produced a considerable number of acclaimed mix CDs and 12" records; however, none of them accumulated more interest and Internet chatter than the 2004 Piracy Funds Terrorism, Vol. 1 mixtape that introduced M.I.A. outside of his U.K. borders. Developing a yearning to produce more worldly music, he also began to throw his energy behind the Brazilian youth- and street-based music known as funk carioca (also referred to as baile funk), a derivation of Miami bass music. So, it was no surprise that when he established his own label, Mad Decent Records, around 2005; his first signee was the funk carioca group Bondo do Role. In 2009, the label signed a distribution deal with Fontana and Downtown Records. Their first collaborative release was by Major Lazer, a fictional Jamaican bounty hunter that was the brainchild of Diplo and DJ Switch. Major Lazer's debut album, Guns Don't Kill People... Lazers Do, appeared in 2009, the same year as the Diplo remix collection Decent Work for Decent Pay: Selected Works, Vol. 1. In 2010, Mad Decent began their Blow Your Head compilation series with the unmixed collection Blow Your Head: Diplo Presents Dubstep. Mix CDs (the reggae-filled 2011 release Riddimentary), EPs (2012's Express Yourself and 2013's Revolution), a Major Lazer album (2013's Free the Universe), and production work for others (including Alex Care's "Too Close" and Usher's "Climax") took Diplo to 2014 and that year's aptly titled compilation Random White Dude Be Everywhere. Filled with recent tracks, the set found the producer favoring the trap music style, the style heard on Baauer's hit single "Harlem Shake," which itself was a Mad Decent release. In 2015, he co-produced multiple tracks on Madonna's release Rebel Heart, and worked with Skrillex on the album Skrillex and Diplo Present Jack Ü. Both Jack Ü and its hit collaboration with Justin Bieber, "Where Are Ü Now," picked up Grammys. Major Lazer's LP Peace Is the Mission also landed that year, topping the U.S. dance chart and peaking at number 12 on the Billboard 200. In 2017, Diplo recruited Travis Scott, Camila Cabello, Quavo, J Balvin, Sean Paul, Busy Signal, and more for Major Lazer's Know No Better EP. That same year, Diplo issued a handful of singles under his own name, including "Imperfections" and "Swerve" with Starrah, and "Get It Right" featuring MØ. The latter track found its way onto 2018's California EP, which featured additional guests Lil Yachty, Desiigner, Santigold, Lil Xan, and Trippie Redd. That same year, Diplo teamed with fellow producer Mark Ronson to form the duo Silk City. Their hit collaboration with Dua Lipa, "Electricity," helped him score his third Grammy in 2019 for Best Dance Recording. In April 2019, his collaborative effort Labrinth, Sia & Diplo Present LSD arrived, followed in May by his Higher Ground EP featuring guests Tove Lo and Kah-Lo. Also that year, Diplo issued several country-flavored singles under the moniker Thomas Wesley, including "So Long" with Cam, "Heartless" with Morgan Wallen, and "Lonely" with the Jonas Brothers, followed by "Do Si Do" featuring Blanco Brown in April 2020. All of those tracks would appear on his country-inflected album Chapter 1: Snake Oil, which was released in May. ~ Cyril Cordor

Making the world smaller by making the party bigger: this is Major Lazer's mission. Since its debut in 2009, the trio led by Diplo has consistently affirmed its desire to celebrate cultures, to uplift artists and genres from around the world and to create a new kind of electronic music. The breadth of international artists that we find across Major Lazer’s albums—from Guns Don't Kill People...Lazers Do, to their latest Music Is The Weapon—illustrates this ethos. This desire to free oneself from codes, to break down barriers, is at the heart of Music is the Weapon. Released in October 2020 this new LP is carried by a list of prestigious names, with universes that could not be more varied. Among them: reggaeton superstar J. Balvin, American rap queen Nicki Minaj, in addition to French Montana, Skip Marley, Khalid, Mr Eazi, Nucleya, Paloma Mami, Anitta, and Shenseea , the new star of Jamaican dancehall and many more.. By drawing together the international influences of reggaeton and afrobeats, Music is the Weapon is a record in tune with its time, whose frenetic rhythms marry genres with ever more power; dance music to dancehall, pop to dembow, soca to hip-hop. It is an album that projects us to the four corners of the globe, and whose title takes on an almost political meaning: at the end of a year marked by isolation and the restriction of our freedoms, music seems to be a considerable weapon, more capable than ever of bringing us together across borders.

BIO
Los Angeles indie electro unit Capital Cities got their start writing commercial jingles before shifting their bright and catchy songwriting talents into the world of pop. Synth-forward, horn-backed hits "Safe and Sound" and "Kangaroo Court" became viral favorites, landing their 2013 debut, In a Tidal Wave of Mystery, on the Billboard 200. Founding composer/songwriters Ryan Merchant and @Sebu Simonian first came together in 2011 via Craigslist, working as commercial jingle writers. Shortly after meeting, they released an EP online, which included the song "Safe and Sound," an upbeat mash of programming and melody that went viral and gained the act a lot of Internet exposure. The live band includes bassist Manny Quintero, trumpeters Spencer Ludwig and Will Artope, guitarists Nick Merwin and Vahagni, and drummers Channing Holmes and Aaron Prather. They played major international festivals such as Coachella (twice), Bonnaroo (twice) and Lollapalooza (4 times). Their full-length debut, In a Tidal Wave of Mystery, arrived on Capitol in June 2013. The band's innovative video for "Safe and Sound" earned them a Grammy nomination. They further expanded their audience in 2014, hopping onto Katy Perry's Prism tour as show openers. Capital Cities returned in the summer of 2017 with their fourth EP, Swimming Pool Summer, which featured rapper Rick Ross on "Girl Friday." A year later, they issued their sophomore full-length Solarize. ~Fred Thomas, Rovi

BIO
New Jersey-based producer Clams Casino's instantly recognizable sound, fusing sludgy, blown-out beats with hazy, nearly shoegaze-like distortion and haunting, dislocated samples, almost singlehandedly spawned the cloud rap subgenre. Around the turn of the 2010s, his atmospheric production work for rappers like <a href="spotify:artist:13ubrt8QOOCPljQ2FL1Kca">A$AP Rocky</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:3jdktm1PgLu9u3tS1YUKrW">Main Attrakionz</a>, and especially <a href="spotify:artist:4bbjivSh1oG4NOc7uYHfw5">Lil B</a> stood out and garnered much critical praise, and his 2011 mixtape Instrumentals became a landmark release, gaining a cult following and expanding his audience beyond underground rap circles. His sound remained influential throughout the decade, as he produced or remixed songs by artists such as <a href="spotify:artist:6nB0iY1cjSY1KyhYyuIIKH">FKA twigs</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:00FQb4jTyendYWaN8pK0wa">Lana Del Rey</a>, and <a href="spotify:artist:6LEeAFiJF8OuPx747e1wxR">Blood Orange</a>. He continued releasing solo instrumental work, additionally making his major-label debut with the 2016 full-length 32 Levels, which included guest appearances by <a href="spotify:artist:68kEuyFKyqrdQQLLsmiatm">Vince Staples</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:1U0sIzpRtDkvu1hXXzxh60">Kelela</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:6K4I1MPd7m8IztUdtrF4YU">Samuel T. Herring</a> (<a href="spotify:artist:1WvvwcQx0tj6NdDhZZ2zZz">Future Islands</a>), and others. Born Michael Volpe, Clams Casino landed his first collaboration after contacting <a href="spotify:artist:4bbjivSh1oG4NOc7uYHfw5">Lil B</a> (then a member of Bay Area rap group <a href="spotify:artist:5M6GE2n46o0qBIyGXtzdQz">the Pack</a>) via MySpace near the end of the 2000s. The MC proceeded to use several Clams Casino productions, all of which were trippy, wistful, and strangely emotive, for the likes of "Realist Alive," "Motivation," and "I'm God." The last one of those three was also used by Soulja Boy for "2 Milli." Volpe's profile gradually rose as word got out that he was the one behind these tracks, as well as material by <a href="spotify:artist:3jdktm1PgLu9u3tS1YUKrW">Main Attrakionz</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:3jdktm1PgLu9u3tS1YUKrW">Main Attrakionz</a>'s Squadda Bambino, and <a href="spotify:artist:6O2zJ0tId7g07yzHtX0yap">Mobb Deep</a>'s Havoc. In March 2011, he uploaded a free 13-track mixtape of instrumentals -- something of a highlight reel, along with a previously unused beat. This preceded the first official Clams Casino solo release, the Rainforest EP, which was issued by <a href="spotify:search:label%3A%22Tri+Angle%22">Tri Angle</a> that June. A limited vinyl pressing of Instrumentals soon followed on experimental label <a href="spotify:search:label%3A%22Type%22">Type</a>. Additional instrumental mixtapes were issued in 2012 and 2013, a period during which tracks by the likes of <a href="spotify:artist:13ubrt8QOOCPljQ2FL1Kca">A$AP Rocky</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:4LLpKhyESsyAXpc4laK94U">Mac Miller</a>, and <a href="spotify:artist:6LEeAFiJF8OuPx747e1wxR">Blood Orange</a> were released with his production work. Among Volpe's more notable collaborations to surface in 2014 and 2015 were <a href="spotify:artist:5IcR3N7QB1j6KBL8eImZ8m">ScHoolboy Q</a>'s "Gravy," <a href="spotify:artist:6nB0iY1cjSY1KyhYyuIIKH">FKA twigs</a>' "Hours," and three cuts from <a href="spotify:artist:68kEuyFKyqrdQQLLsmiatm">Vince Staples</a>' Summertime '06. Signed to <a href="spotify:search:label%3A%22Columbia%22">Columbia</a>, Clams Casino made his major-label debut as an artist in 2016 with 32 Levels. A fourth instrumental mixtape appeared in 2017. "4 Gold Chains," a collaboration with <a href="spotify:artist:2kCcBybjl3SAtIcwdWpUe3">Lil Peep</a>, was posthumously released in 2018, and Clams Casino additionally contributed to albums by <a href="spotify:artist:3MZsBdqDrRTJihTHQrO6Dq">Joji</a> and <a href="spotify:artist:1O9iHQjrVuiAYOJFCBeFSl">serpentwithfeet</a> the same year. Moon Trip Radio, a completely instrumental solo full-length, was issued in 2019. Instrumental Relics, a compilation of some of Volpe's best early productions (including "I'm God," with its <a href="spotify:artist:6Xb4ezwoAQC4516kI89nWz">Imogen Heap</a> sample fully cleared), arrived in 2020. ~ Andy Kellman & Paul Simpson, Rovi

Detroit-born <a href="spotify:artist:4rIKOF7RT4PNxyhd3ZzLtE">Marc Kinchen</a>, known commonly as MK, is one of the rare house producers to consistently innovate as well as achieve significant commercial success throughout a career spanning three decades. Initially appearing on Detroit labels such as <a href="spotify:artist:0jS6VTFGujWxinY5TSQwOG">Kevin Saunderson</a>'s <a href="spotify:search:label%3A%22KMS%22">KMS</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:4rIKOF7RT4PNxyhd3ZzLtE">Kinchen</a> developed a highly unique style that combined the soulfulness of New York-inspired garage with the energy of hard techno, as well as intensely cut-up vocal hooks. His work would prove to be a major influence on New Jersey house deity <a href="spotify:artist:6MFopqejpmTUUZlcRmGzgg">Todd Edwards</a>, as well as the entire U.K. garage scene. Throughout the '90s he achieved club success with several singles sung by Alana, collected on the 1993 full-length Surrender, as well as many remixes for other artists, including the Nightcrawlers' seminal "Push the Feeling On," originally released in 1992. During the early 21st century, <a href="spotify:artist:4rIKOF7RT4PNxyhd3ZzLtE">Kinchen</a> worked closely with stars like <a href="spotify:artist:41qil2VaGbD194gaEcmmyx">Will Smith</a> and <a href="spotify:artist:0TnOYISbd1XYRBk9myaseg">Pitbull</a>, then returned to house music as interest in his earlier work resurged during the early 2010s. He scored one of his biggest hits with his remix of <a href="spotify:artist:0DgsuiMZylmPOYkrVOqNYQ">Storm Queen</a>'s "Look Right Through," which topped the U.K. pop chart in late 2013. He then resumed releasing original material, picking up silver and platinum certifications in the U.K. with 2010s singles such as "Piece of Me," "17," and "Back & Forth." In 2023, "Rhyme Dust" became his 11th charting U.K. pop single as a headliner or co-headliner. <a href="spotify:artist:4rIKOF7RT4PNxyhd3ZzLtE">Kinchen</a>'s first production credit was "First Bass," as part of the group Separate Minds with <a href="spotify:artist:4hXZQPceQIf654OSomVXOs">Terrence Parker</a>. The track was released on the 1989 <a href="spotify:search:label%3A%22KMS%22">KMS</a> compilation Techno-1. <a href="spotify:artist:4rIKOF7RT4PNxyhd3ZzLtE">Kinchen</a> also recorded several singles as MK before he moved to Brooklyn in 1991, formed his own <a href="spotify:search:label%3A%22Area+10+Records%22">Area 10 Records</a>, and released the single "Burning." The track became a moderate club hit, and led to remixing for <a href="spotify:artist:5E704N5StxMVKpalhaJ5L3">the Shamen</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:1m24736Bdew1oQVxTePOCo">Tom Tom Club</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:3gdbcIdNypBsYNu3iiCjtN">the B-52s</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:7m5S1htMISjftuV2U12VsE">D-Influence</a>, and, most notably, the Nightcrawlers, whose "Push the Feeling On" was transformed by his "dub of doom." Soon, <a href="spotify:artist:4rIKOF7RT4PNxyhd3ZzLtE">Kinchen</a> was one of the hottest figures in house music, and he signed to <a href="spotify:search:label%3A%22Charisma%22">Charisma</a> for an album deal. His full-length debut, 1993's Surrender, was credited to MK Featuring Alana (aka Alana Simon) and featured the singles "Always" and "Love Changes," which became deep house club hits worldwide. <a href="spotify:artist:4rIKOF7RT4PNxyhd3ZzLtE">Kinchen</a> continued to remix for a motley assortment of artists -- <a href="spotify:artist:2ycnb8Er79LoH2AsR5ldjh">Pet Shop Boys</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:1hQuWl1dueM7ChRUZRn05z">Opus III</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:5Xe660GpChOBsLd0d9ihan">Ethyl Meatplow</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:1eNkUXHPaXyuyC8NAgzykK">Jodeci</a>, and <a href="spotify:artist:05oH07COxkXKIMt6mIPRee">Brandy</a> among them -- and recorded both as himself and <a href="spotify:artist:43qeX7fspFAKKpLy6au8kO">4th Measure Men</a>. After a lengthy retreat from house music that began in 1996 and entailed a close association with <a href="spotify:artist:41qil2VaGbD194gaEcmmyx">Will Smith</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:4rIKOF7RT4PNxyhd3ZzLtE">Kinchen</a> easily resumed activity as a producer and remixer of club music, and as a DJ. During the early 2010s, he racked up dozens of remix credits for high-profile pop artists, including <a href="spotify:artist:00FQb4jTyendYWaN8pK0wa">Lana Del Rey</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:7pyhre5oEEFMqcgMEvJY7q">Sky Ferreira</a>, and <a href="spotify:artist:2wY79sveU1sp5g7SokKOiI">Sam Smith</a>. However, it was his remix of an underground track -- "Look Right Through," by <a href="spotify:artist:3rheA53cr3B53FI9xbn4x7">Morgan Geist</a> and Damon Scott's <a href="spotify:artist:0DgsuiMZylmPOYkrVOqNYQ">Storm Queen</a> -- that was most successful, as it reached number one on the U.K. pop chart. Around the same time, there was renewed interest in <a href="spotify:artist:4rIKOF7RT4PNxyhd3ZzLtE">Kinchen</a>'s early work, compiled by the <a href="spotify:search:label%3A%22Defected%22">Defected</a> label's <a href="spotify:search:label%3A%22ITH%22">ITH</a> division as part of its House Masters series. In 2015, <a href="spotify:artist:4rIKOF7RT4PNxyhd3ZzLtE">Kinchen</a> released "Bring Me to Life" (featuring singer <a href="spotify:artist:0SqgiwJ8W2LUAsDJ7AKJ51">Milly Pye</a>) as the first single from an album he was preparing. Among the remixes was one carried out by <a href="spotify:artist:7rymtwVS1IAIF9D4APLnOI">Dantiez Saunderson</a> -- the son of <a href="spotify:artist:0jS6VTFGujWxinY5TSQwOG">Kevin Saunderson</a>. A second single appeared in 2016. "Piece of Me" featured <a href="spotify:artist:4EPJlUEBy49EX1wuFOvtjK">Becky Hill</a> on vocals, and the remix EP included versions by <a href="spotify:artist:67tgMwUfnmqzYsNAtnP6YJ">Groove Armada</a> and <a href="spotify:artist:7rymtwVS1IAIF9D4APLnOI">the Saunderson Brothers</a>. The 2017 single "17" topped the U.K. dance chart and reached number seven on the pop chart, making it <a href="spotify:artist:4rIKOF7RT4PNxyhd3ZzLtE">Kinchen</a>'s most successful solo single. He enlisted <a href="spotify:artist:4EPJlUEBy49EX1wuFOvtjK">Hill</a> once again for the 2018 single "Back & Forth" (also featuring <a href="spotify:artist:1HBjj22wzbscIZ9sEb5dyf">Jonas Blue</a>) and narrowly missed another U.K. Top Ten showing. He charted early the next decade with "Lies" and "Better," and in 2023 made another appearance on the U.K. chart with the Dom Dolla collaboration "Rhyme Dust." ~ John Bush & Andy Kellman

BIO
Moby was one of the most controversial figures in techno music, alternately praised for bringing a face to the notoriously anonymous electronic genre and scorned by hordes of techno artists and fans for diluting and trivializing the form. In either case, Moby was one of the most important dance music figures of the early '90s, helping bring the music to a mainstream audience both in England and in America. Moby fused rapid disco beats with heavy distorted guitars, punk rhythms, and detailed productions that drew equally from pop, dance, and movie soundtracks. Not only did his music differ from both the cool surface textures of ambient music and the hedonistic world of house music, but so did his lifestyle; Moby was famous for his devout radical Christian beliefs, as well as his environmental and vegan activism. "Go" became a British Top Ten hit in 1991, establishing him as one of the premier techno producers. By the time he came to the attention of American record critics with 1995's Everything Is Wrong, his following from the early '90s had begun to erode, particularly in Britain. Nevertheless, he remained one of the most recognizable figures within techno; after he abandoned the music for guitar rock with 1996's Animal Rights, he returned to a heavy electronic base with 1997's I Like to Score and 1999's Play, the latter of which made him a genuine breakout pop star. Born Richard Melville Hall, Moby received his nickname as a child; it derives from the fact that Herman Melville, the author of Moby Dick, is his great-great grand uncle. Moby was raised in Darien, Connecticut, where he played in a hardcore punk band called the Vatican Commandos as a teenager. Later, he briefly sang with Flipper while their singer was serving time in jail. He briefly attended college before he moved to New York City, where he began DJ'ing in dance clubs. During the late '80s and 1990, he released a number of singles and EPs for the independent label Instinct. In 1991, he set the theme from David Lynch's television series Twin Peaks to an insistent house-derived rhythm while remixing his track "Go," the B-side to his debut single "Mobility." The updated "Go" became a surprise British hit single, climbing into the Top Ten. Following its success, Moby was invited to remix a number of mainstream and underground acts, including Michael Jackson, Pet Shop Boys, Brian Eno, Depeche Mode, Erasure, the B-52s, and Orbital. Moby continued performing at dances and raves throughout 1991 and 1992, culminating in a set at 1992's Mixmag awards, where he broke his keyboards at the end of his concert. Moby, his first full-length album, appeared in 1992, although it was released without Moby's involvement and contained tracks that were at least a year old at the time. In 1993, he released the double A-sided single "I Feel It"/"Thousand," which became a moderate U.K. hit. According to The Guinness Book of Records, "Thousand" is the fastest single ever, appropriately clocking in at 1,000 beats a minute. That same year, Moby signed a record contract with Mute in the U.K. and major-label Elektra in the U.S. His first release for both labels was the six-song EP Move. His previous American label, Instinct, continued releasing CD collections of his work against his wishes. These included Ambient, which compiled unissued material recorded between 1988 and 1991, and Early Underground, which collected tracks from several of his singles and EPs under different pseudonyms, including the original version of "Go." The Story So Far, a U.K. version of Moby with a different track listing, also appeared. In 1994, the single "Hymn" -- one of the first fusions of gospel, techno, and ambient music -- was released. The song re-appeared as the lead track to Everything Is Wrong, his first album released under his new record deals. The full-length appeared in the spring of 1995 to uniformly positive reviews, especially in the American press, which had previously ignored him. Despite the promotional push behind the album and his popular sets at the 1995 Lollapalooza festival, the album wasn't a commercial success. "Bring Back My Happiness," however, was a Top Ten hit on Billboard's club chart. The following year, Moby revisited his roots in heavy guitar-based music for 1996's Animal Rights, which featured a cover of Mission of Burma's "That's When I Reach for My Revolver" and received mixed reviews. He also released The End of Everything, an ambient techno album credited to his occasional pseudonym Voodoo Child, on Trophy Records, his own sub-label of Mute. One year later, Elektra collected his soundtrack highlights for I Like to Score, a compilation that included his remix of "The James Bond Theme" for Tomorrow Never Dies, as well as contributions to Cool World, Heat, and Scream. Moby's fifth studio album, Play, appeared in 1999. Surpassing everyone's expectations, the album -- featuring numerous samples of Alan Lomax field recordings -- went double platinum in the U.S. and reached number one in the U.K. Aside from its hit singles, Play's success was assured when its tracks were licensed by dozens of advertisers and compilers. Always a restless producer, Moby followed Play with 18 (2002), a relatively reflective and restrained set dotted with an eclectic list of guest vocalists (including MC Lyte, Angie Stone, and Sinéad O'Connor). It debuted at number four on the U.S. Billboard 200 but didn't come close to catching Play in terms of sales. The downward trend in mainstream appeal continued with Hotel (2005), a mixture of basic contemporary rock and downbeat electronica; early copies were bundled with an ambient disc worthy of separate release. On Last Night, seemingly unaware of contemporary trends in dance music, Moby made a return to club hedonism with some of his most creative -- if unapologetically nostalgic -- material. The austere and morose Wait for Me (2009), featuring a show-stealing appearance from soul singer Leela James, was just the opposite in tone. Destroyed (2011), recorded during late-night sessions in hotel rooms, offered a natural extension of Wait for Me's alienated feel. The companion piece Destroyed Remixed (2012) followed shortly thereafter; a limited double-disc compilation, it featured exclusive remixes by David Lynch, Holy Ghost!, and System Divine, as well as a previously unreleased 30-minute ambient piece by Moby himself. After several appearances in early 2013, including DJ sets at the Coachella Festival, Moby released a single for Record Store Day entitled "The Lonely Night," which featured vocals from Mark Lanegan. The song was included on Innocents, a predominantly downcast album released that October. Other guest vocalists included Damien Jurado, the Flaming Lips' Wayne Coyne, and Skylar Grey. Three shows were performed in support of the album, all of which took place at Los Angeles' Fonda Theatre. A two-CD/two-DVD documentary, Almost Home, was released in March 2014. Late that year, Moby released an expanded edition of Hotel Ambient, which was originally featured as a bonus disc on the limited-edition version of 2005's Hotel. An additional ambient collection, Long Ambients 1: Calm. Sleep., was later released as a free download. During the latter half of 2015, Moby debuted Moby & the Void Pacific Choir. The first single, "The Light Is Clear in My Eyes," brought back some of the post-punk-inspired crunch from Animal Rights. The following May, he published Porcelain: A Memoir, which focused on his life in the '90s. The book was complemented by a two-disc collection that included Moby highlights from that decade and a selection of tracks by artists who influenced him, including the Jungle Brothers, 808 State, and A Tribe Called Quest. An album from Moby & the Void Pacific Choir, These Systems Are Failing, arrived later in the year. The second Void Pacific Choir effort, More Fast Songs About the Apocalypse, was issued in the summer of 2017. Moby returned the following year with Everything Was Beautiful, And Nothing Hurt. Taking its title from Kurt Vonnegut's book Slaughterhouse-Five, the album also saw him looking back to classic trip-hop for influence. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine & Andy Kellman

Godspeed might be Marea Stamper's debut album, but it's not exactly her first. She completed a whole different LP and then shelved the project entirely when the pandemic hit. Fast forward to 2021 and she was without a record deal, her father had died and the future was far from certain. The party seemed like it might have been over. But instead of giving up, she started all over again. Stamper dusted off a few tracks, made some new ones and sent them around. Three years and "thousands of hours" of work later, she finished Godspeed, a living, breathing behemoth of a house music album whose journey was so complex and unpredictable that the title wasn't even decided until just a day before finishing the LP. The result is an all-encompassing look at a seasoned raver, expressed in an age-old way: music that celebrates the power of music itself, surrounded by friends and family to share in that joy with. The album is a labour of love, an homage to Stamper's roots that also updates it for the future. It's a little bit retro, a little bit futuristic, a bit pop and a bit avant-garde, full of sputtering drum patterns and left turns that frame the rawness of proto-house as the sound of now. It's uplifting but realistic about the world, covering the spectrum of human emotions instead of focusing on escapism. Or, as Stamper says: "Same shit, new soundtrack."

BIO
Until he began branching out in 1996 with a barrage of album productions and remix classics (several of which were heard by more people than the originals), Armand Van Helden was one of the best-kept secrets in house music, recording for such labels as <a href="spotify:search:label%3A%22Strictly+Rhythm%22">Strictly Rhythm</a>, <a href="spotify:search:label%3A%22Henry+St%22">Henry St</a>., and <a href="spotify:search:label%3A%22Logic%22">Logic</a>. Afterwards, he became one of the top names in dance music altogether. As one in the steady progression of top in-house producers for <a href="spotify:search:label%3A%22Strictly+Rhythm%22">Strictly Rhythm</a> during the early '90s, Van Helden joined such names as <a href="spotify:artist:3dE92yGWcrboP1kC5SWyqu">Todd Terry</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:4DE0cYxMnEEmfKLwDkYwxb">Erick Morillo</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:1HT9k1ZSUL9IczSstOAgWJ">Roger Sanchez</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:5Fkj0k7EPUhIsESSIEA9f1">Masters at Work</a>, and <a href="spotify:artist:1lFrAhvIUbiWsTEMexSlDy">George Morel</a> to record scores of club hits. By the late '90s, a clutch of crucial remixes and several albums made Van Helden's name as one of the most popular producers around. His fame continued well into the 21st century, thanks to successful collaborations with <a href="spotify:artist:0gusqTJKxtU1UTmNRMHZcv">Dizzee Rascal</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:77AiFEVeAVj2ORpC85QVJs">Steve Aoki</a>, and especially <a href="spotify:artist:3TaUSUXn41GixL7zbvrIDt">A-Trak</a>, with whom he formed the chart-topping duo <a href="spotify:artist:0q8J3Yj810t5cpAYEJ7gxt">Duck Sauce</a> in 2009. Van Helden spent time in Holland, Turkey, and Italy while growing up the son of an Air Force man, and listened to music from an early age. He bought a drum machine at the age of 13 and began DJ'ing two years later, mostly hip-hop and freestyle. Based in Boston while attending college, Van Helden proceeded to moonlight as a DJ; though he settled into a legal-review job after graduation, he quit in 1991 to begin working on production for the remix service X-Mix Productions (founded by his future manager, Neil Petricone). Van Helden also owned a residency at Boston's Loft, and soon made it into one of the most popular nightclubs in the city. After playing one of his production demos for the dance A&R guru Gladys Pizarro in 1992, Van Helden released his proper debut single, <a href="spotify:artist:1aGJZYcX5I0ihLgEvU9U3A">Deep Creed</a>'s "Stay on My Mind," for Nervous Records. Later that year, Van Helden released "Move It to the Left" by Sultans of Swing, his first single for the premiere American dance label <a href="spotify:search:label%3A%22Strictly+Rhythm%22">Strictly Rhythm</a>. Though a moderate club hit, the single was eclipsed by another <a href="spotify:search:label%3A%22Strictly+Rhythm%22">Strictly Rhythm</a> offering, 1994's "Witch Doktor." It became a dancefloor hit around the world and introduced him to a larger club audience. Although he had remixed <a href="spotify:artist:4eQJIXFEujzhTVVS1gIfu5">Deee-Lite</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:6LQeBFIfD4C22RJVVjQ6S7">Jimmy Somerville</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:0yNLKJebCb8Aueb54LYya3">New Order</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:4pAYkltTzVhqBZuDekCHa3">Deep Forest</a>, and <a href="spotify:artist:5T4UKHhr4HGIC0VzdZQtAE">Faithless</a>, a reworked version of <a href="spotify:artist:1KsASRNugxU85T0u6zSg32">Tori Amos</a>' "Professional Widow" hit the clubs with the same impact as his "Witchdoktor" single. During 1996-1997, Van Helden became the name for forward-thinking pop and dance artists to recruit for remix duty from <a href="spotify:artist:22bE4uQ6baNwSHPVcDxLCe">the Rolling Stones</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:4qwGe91Bz9K2T8jXTZ815W">Janet Jackson</a>, and <a href="spotify:artist:59wfkuBoNyhDMQGCljbUbA">Puff Daddy</a> to <a href="spotify:artist:1EJWNhiYbOyeUHbsS7Kp1P">Sneaker Pimps</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:51OKtNtm24ALAjAHBMiFng">C.J. Bolland</a>, and <a href="spotify:artist:4tZwfgrHOc3mvqYlEYSvVi">Daft Punk</a>. His own-name singles productions continued unabated, with hits like "Cha Cha" and "The Funk Phenomena," plus the release of his first album, Old School Junkies. Following a 1997 Greatest Hits retrospective, Van Helden returned to his old-school rap roots with the party breakbeat album, Sampleslayer...Enter the Meatmarket. The 2 Future 4 U album followed in 1998, spawning a U.K. number one single in "U Don't Know Me" (featuring <a href="spotify:artist:6t8VAB5OTHKxi4p1I5aqn0">Duane Harden</a>) as well as the Top 20 follow-up "Flowerz." In mid-2000, Van Helden returned with Killing Puritans, which contained the hit "Koochy," built around a sample of <a href="spotify:artist:5KQMtyPE8DCQNUzoNqlEsE">Gary Numan</a>'s iconic "Cars." Gandhi Khan followed in 2001, and New York: A Mix Odyssey appeared in 2004, containing hit collaborations with <a href="spotify:artist:7mptxhE5GwVj787bqNuEM9">Spalding Rockwell</a> ("Hear My Name") and <a href="spotify:artist:2yWER4vAftcZCFPc7ednct">Tara McDonald</a> ("My My My"). Both of these songs also appeared on Van Helden's 2005 studio album Nympho, and "My My My" became a chart hit once again when it was re-released and remixed in 2006. Van Helden's Ghettoblaster album, influenced by freestyle and other '80s dance sounds, appeared in 2007. Retrospective You Don't Know Me: The Best of Armand Van Helden and New York: A Mix Odyssey, Pt. 2 both appeared in 2008. In 2009, Van Helden collaborated with British rapper <a href="spotify:artist:0gusqTJKxtU1UTmNRMHZcv">Dizzee Rascal</a> for a fidget-house song called "Bonkers." The song hit number one in the U.K., and was a decent-sized hit elsewhere. Later in the year, he teamed up with Canadian DJ <a href="spotify:artist:3TaUSUXn41GixL7zbvrIDt">A-Trak</a> under the name <a href="spotify:artist:0q8J3Yj810t5cpAYEJ7gxt">Duck Sauce</a>, producing a track called "aNYway." It hit the charts in a few countries, but it was a moderate success compared to next year's "Barbra Streisand." Built around an infectious <a href="spotify:artist:54R6Y0I7jGUCveDTtI21nb">Boney M</a> sample, the song hit number one in several countries, partially thanks to the viral popularity of its music video, which featured cameos by <a href="spotify:artist:2RdwBSPQiwcmiDo9kixcl8">Pharrell Williams</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:5K4W6rqBFWDnAN6FQUkS6x">Kanye West</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:74V3dE1a51skRkdII8y2C6">André 3000</a>, and numerous other famous musicians. A few other <a href="spotify:artist:0q8J3Yj810t5cpAYEJ7gxt">Duck Sauce</a> singles followed during the next few years, leading up to full-length Quack, which finally arrived in 2014. Van Helden continued to be an in-demand remixer, with stars such as <a href="spotify:artist:2wY79sveU1sp5g7SokKOiI">Sam Smith</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:6tbjWDEIzxoDsBA1FuhfPW">Madonna</a>, and <a href="spotify:artist:6nS5roXSAGhTGr34W6n7Et">Disclosure</a> among his clients. In 2015, he released a three-CD mix on <a href="spotify:search:label%3A%22Ministry+of+Sound%22">Ministry of Sound</a> titled Masterpiece, including one disc of early house tracks, one disc dedicated to yacht rock, and another consisting of '80s freestyle. Van Helden's recording career was given another retrospective in 2016, with Defected Presents House Masters. ~ John Bush & Paul Simpson, Rovi

BIO
Niles Hollowell-Dhar, known by his stage name KSHMR, produces big room electro-house that is heavily influenced by his Indian heritage. The California-based producer first found success as part of the pop-rap duo <a href="spotify:artist:7C64wNX3howEFZjAYRKsfP">the Cataracs</a>, who produced hits for <a href="spotify:artist:698hF4vcwHwPy8ltmXermq">Far East Movement</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:7Ip2u3e5Nv6fFb5xyIHxEE">Dev</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:7hJcb9fa4alzcOq3EaNPoG">Snoop Dogg</a>, and <a href="spotify:artist:1ZKqrja0WvbSssYNFO3lzs">New Boyz</a> during the early 2010s. Freeing himself from the expectations of the pop world, he anonymously debuted his EDM alias KSHMR in 2014, publicly confirming his identity the following year. He has released dozens of singles, including collaborations with <a href="spotify:artist:2o5jDhtHVPhrJdv3cEQ99Z">Tiësto</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:6BrvowZBreEkXzJQMpL174">Hardwell</a>, and <a href="spotify:artist:6cEuCEZu7PAE9ZSzLLc2oQ">R3hab</a>, in addition to EPs such as 2015's Paradesi, 2016's interlude-heavy The Lion Across the Field, 2017's Materia, and 2021's full-length Harmonica Andromeda. Hollowell-Dhar, the son of an Indian father and an American mother, was born in Berkeley, California, in 1988. He attended Berkeley High School, where he met aspiring rapper David Benjamin Singer-Vine. Hollowell-Dhar wrote a diss track against Singer-Vine, but they ended up becoming close friends, and they formed <a href="spotify:artist:7C64wNX3howEFZjAYRKsfP">the Cataracs</a> in 2003. Starting with 2006's Technohop, Vol. 1, they released a few digital albums and EPs, as well as the 2007 single "Blueberry Afghani," a collaboration with hyphy group <a href="spotify:artist:5M6GE2n46o0qBIyGXtzdQz">the Pack</a> (featuring a young <a href="spotify:artist:4bbjivSh1oG4NOc7uYHfw5">Lil B</a>). After moving to Los Angeles, they began collaborating with singer <a href="spotify:artist:7Ip2u3e5Nv6fFb5xyIHxEE">Dev</a>. <a href="spotify:artist:7C64wNX3howEFZjAYRKsfP">The Cataracs</a> signed to <a href="spotify:search:label%3A%22Universal+Records%22">Universal Records</a> in 2010, and they wrote and produced <a href="spotify:artist:698hF4vcwHwPy8ltmXermq">Far East Movement</a>'s chart-topping hit "Like a G6," which sampled "Booty Bounce," a song they produced for <a href="spotify:artist:7Ip2u3e5Nv6fFb5xyIHxEE">Dev</a>. <a href="spotify:artist:7C64wNX3howEFZjAYRKsfP">The Cataracs</a>' other productions included <a href="spotify:artist:7hJcb9fa4alzcOq3EaNPoG">Snoop Dogg</a>'s single "Wet," <a href="spotify:artist:1ZKqrja0WvbSssYNFO3lzs">New Boyz</a>'s hit "Backseat," and the entirety of <a href="spotify:artist:7Ip2u3e5Nv6fFb5xyIHxEE">Dev</a>'s 2011 full-length The Night the Sun Came Up. <a href="spotify:artist:7C64wNX3howEFZjAYRKsfP">The Cataracs</a>' Gordo Taqueria EP was released in 2012, featuring "All You," a collaboration with <a href="spotify:artist:6f4XkbvYlXMH0QgVRzW0sM">Wacka Flocka Flame</a> and <a href="spotify:artist:6TQj5BFPooTa08A7pk8AQ1">Kaskade</a>. Singer-Vine decided to leave <a href="spotify:artist:7C64wNX3howEFZjAYRKsfP">the Cataracs</a> in 2012, and Hollowell-Dhar continued using the name. He teamed up with <a href="spotify:artist:1bj5GrcLom5gZFF5t949Xl">Martin Solveig</a> and <a href="spotify:artist:4qBgvVog0wzW75IQ48mU7v">Kyle</a> on the 2013 single "Hey Now," which charted in several countries. He also produced songs for <a href="spotify:artist:0C8ZW7ezQVs4URX5aX7Kqx">Selena Gomez</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:3Isy6kedDrgPYoTS1dazA9">Sean Paul</a>, and <a href="spotify:artist:0ZrpamOxcZybMHGg1AYtHP">Robin Thicke</a>. He decided to end <a href="spotify:artist:7C64wNX3howEFZjAYRKsfP">the Cataracs</a> in 2014, and began anonymously producing EDM under the name KSHMR. Debuting in February with the single "Megalodon," KSHMR released a steady stream of tracks that hit the charts of dance music retailer Beatport. Following collaborations with <a href="spotify:artist:53YSn9tHwGJ6bq5P0gGoYo">Firebeatz</a> and <a href="spotify:artist:7uas0F5EhsZg6KDJ7yy7rW">DallasK</a>, "Karate" (with <a href="spotify:artist:6cEuCEZu7PAE9ZSzLLc2oQ">R3hab</a>) charted in Belgium and France. KSHMR revealed his identity at the Ultra Music Festival in 2015, where he was introduced by <a href="spotify:artist:2o5jDhtHVPhrJdv3cEQ99Z">Tiësto</a>. The two collaborated on the single "Secrets" (with <a href="spotify:artist:7HqEmV7FeCi16bQyHMpIrF">Vassy</a>), which was the biggest KSHMR single yet. He released the Paradesi EP, which was strongly based on Indian culture, as were additional singles like "Jammu" and "Bazaar." By the end of the year, he had charted at number 23 on DJ Mag's annual Top 100 DJs poll. An EP titled The Lion Across the Field was released in May 2016, and KSHMR performed at the main stage of the Tomorrowland music festival shortly after. His singles during the year included "Invisible Children" (with <a href="spotify:artist:48xCatjXaoohtyOHrHTijG">Tigerlily</a>), "Voices" (with <a href="spotify:artist:1u7OVFmWah4wQhOPIbUb8U">Will Sparks</a>), and "Extreme" (with <a href="spotify:artist:6xQvQwZQQuq9R3TdPNbcR8">Bassjackers</a>). He then moved up to number 12 on the annual DJ Mag poll, a position he held the following year. KSHMR's 2017 performance at the Ultra Music Festival, with <a href="spotify:artist:0CbeG1224FS58EUx4tPevZ">Timmy Trumpet</a>, was his first to be performed entirely with live musicians. A further <a href="spotify:artist:2o5jDhtHVPhrJdv3cEQ99Z">Tiësto</a> collaboration, "Harder," appeared that year, and subsequent 2017 singles included "The Serpent" (with <a href="spotify:artist:2yT7X3Gg2S51DHz67FAYL6">Snails</a>) and "Underwater," which featured Bollywood singer <a href="spotify:artist:1dVygo6tRFXC8CSWURQJq2">Sonu Nigam</a>. He also ventured into psy-trance with the single "Shiva," a collaboration with <a href="spotify:artist:6S3KljEiIOWoLMUyZrkQUc">Marnik</a> and <a href="spotify:artist:0WirkzcH4M2ciZUIrsbjzE">the Golden Army</a>. In 2018, KSHMR teamed up with singer <a href="spotify:artist:1q4zUzqEWKe8YvpI9OxKqL">Sidnie Tipton</a> for the acoustic pop-oriented single "House of Cards." "Doonka," a free track featuring <a href="spotify:artist:7tGP2lCt2Xkoc3BCN13NWU">Mr.Black</a>, was influenced by trap. This was followed by "Carry Me Home," a progressive house track featuring vocalist <a href="spotify:artist:0eBOZ74PcpQb3SisNPgaRQ">Jake Reese</a>. 2021 saw the release of his first full-length effort, Harmonica Andromeda, which took inspiration from countries and cultures worldwide. ~ Paul Simpson, Rovi

BIO
Grammy-nominated electronic producer Kaskade emerged as one of the most successful American progressive house DJs of the 2000s, pioneering the concept of Las Vegas residencies and selling out arenas across America. With his bright, uplifting dance anthems, he was a steady presence on the U.S. dance charts into the 2010s with Top Ten releases that included chart-toppers Fire & Ice (2011) and Atmosphere (2013). One year later, I Remember (2014) compiled the best of his <a href="spotify:search:label%3A%22Ultra%22">Ultra</a> years, after which he renewed his contract with the label and released Automatic (2015). During the late 2010s, Raddon began rounding up his singles work into a series of releases titled Redux. Fire & Ice v3 arrived in 2022, the same year Kaskade debuted his project with <a href="spotify:artist:2CIMQHirSU0MQqyYHq0eOx">Deadmau5</a> titled <a href="spotify:artist:2avRYQUWQpIkzJOEkf0MdY">Kx5</a>. Born Ryan Gary Raddon in Chicago, he spent his early days not only as a DJ, but as an A&R director and record store owner. In the late '90s, he familiarized himself with the rapidly changing electronic music scene, eventually finding that house music was the subgenre he loved best. He DJ'ed in both New York and Salt Lake City, where he would first produce tracks released on his own tiny label, Mechanized Records. He also sold his music to John Elkins, A&R director for <a href="spotify:search:label%3A%22OM+Records%22">OM Records</a>, who later hired Raddon to assist him at the label. By night, Kaskade spun at local clubs and by day helped kick-start the careers of many artists, including Ming + FS and soul-house act <a href="spotify:artist:3GeU43m5eWxLSfdJQ0s5h9">Soulstice</a>. His own full-length recordings under the Kaskade moniker began with 2003's house-inflected It's You, It's Me. A soulful, more organic direction provided focus for the following year's In the Moment, and Raddon kept his name in the record racks by piloting editions in the San Francisco Sessions DJ series (as well as the label mix House of OM). He proved surprisingly dedicated to his production craft, releasing Love Mysterious in 2006, which placed on Billboard's electronic albums chart. That same year, he parted ways with <a href="spotify:search:label%3A%22OM%22">OM</a> and signed with <a href="spotify:search:label%3A%22Ultra%22">Ultra</a>. Arriving in 2008, Strobelight Seduction -- featuring production by <a href="spotify:artist:2CIMQHirSU0MQqyYHq0eOx">Deadmau5</a> -- became his biggest commercial success to date, buoyed by the lead single "Move for Me." Released in 2010, Dynasty celebrated his new reputation with a parade of vocal features and a co-production with <a href="spotify:artist:2o5jDhtHVPhrJdv3cEQ99Z">Tiësto</a>. It also became his first LP to chart on the Billboard 200. That year, Raddon put together Electric Daisy Carnival, a mix showcasing artists on the bill for the inaugural dance music festival of the same name. The double-album Fire & Ice followed in 2011 and debuted in the Billboard Top 20. Featuring a production assist from <a href="spotify:artist:5he5w2lnU9x7JFhnwcekXX">Skrillex</a> on "Lick It," the effort also included guest vocals from <a href="spotify:artist:0RpddSzUHfncUWNJXKOsjy">Neon Trees</a> and <a href="spotify:artist:4utLUGcTvOJFr6aqIJtYWV">Skylar Grey</a>. Atmosphere arrived two years later and featured softer, more relaxed music along with vocals from Kaskade himself. After the 2014 compilation I Remember rounded up the best material from his years on <a href="spotify:search:label%3A%22Ultra%22">Ultra</a>, the DJ renewed his contract with the label and one year later released Automatic. The album featured guest appearances from <a href="spotify:artist:5T0MSzX9RC5NA6gAI6irSn">Estelle</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:4sTQVOfp9vEMCemLw50sbu">Galantis</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:15xvsJMf8phaNa1LYvL9Qv">John Dahlbäck</a>, and <a href="spotify:artist:0pCNk4D3E2xtszsm6hMsWr">K. Flay</a>, and peaked on the Billboard Electronic chart at number two. In 2016, Kaskade joined <a href="spotify:artist:2CIMQHirSU0MQqyYHq0eOx">Deadmau5</a> and <a href="spotify:artist:4utLUGcTvOJFr6aqIJtYWV">Skylar Grey</a> on the single "Beneath Me." The following year he issued the Redux EP 002 (featuring <a href="spotify:artist:2RDXcxQgmEyomb2g9SERuf">LoKii</a>, Mr. Tape, and <a href="spotify:artist:6JtFllJR7nhh8fa6oGefSj">Late Night Alumni</a>), as well as the holiday-themed Kaskade Christmas. The DJ then joined <a href="spotify:artist:7LImGq5KnzQobZciDJpeJb">Charlotte Lawrence</a> for the 2018 single "Cold as Stone." His third installment of the Redux series arrived in 2019. Redux 003 presented a seamless mix featuring <a href="spotify:artist:6roDXEmZ6AARdOUv6x5U2v">Felix Cartal</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:4VNQWV2y1E97Eqo2D5UTjx">Gorgon City</a>, and more. Among his many 2020 singles, he also issued the Redux 004 EP. He kicked off 2021 with the single "Closer," then delivered Reset and Redux EP 005. Fire & Ice v3, featuring updates of several earlier tracks, appeared in 2022. <a href="spotify:artist:2avRYQUWQpIkzJOEkf0MdY">Kx5</a>, a project with <a href="spotify:artist:2CIMQHirSU0MQqyYHq0eOx">Deadmau5</a>, debuted with the single "Escape." Kaskade released singles with <a href="spotify:artist:4ZedOHbnyLaFvvMuY6uaOM">L'Tric</a> and <a href="spotify:artist:5biUTrM9W6pQU4bTfGXNJ1">Sydney Streb</a> ("Birds of Paradise") and Justus ("Dance with Me"), while <a href="spotify:artist:2avRYQUWQpIkzJOEkf0MdY">Kx5</a> continued with additional tracks like "Take Me High," "Alive," and the <a href="spotify:artist:586uxXMyD5ObPuzjtrzO1Q">Sofi Tukker</a> collaboration "Sacrifice." ~ L. Surf Mesa is driven by one goal: to create electronic music that summons the joy of discovery he felt when stumbling upon new artists and songs as a teenager. It’s a purpose that guides the 23-year-old Seattle native’s every mellifluous release, from the double-Platinum viral sensation “ily (i love you baby),” which has amassed nearly 3 billion combined streams, to his lush new single “City of Love” featuring Selah Sol. He’s gearing up for even more future-facing hooks throughout the rest of 2023, beginning with the upcoming single “Manzanita,” and continuing with a host of other releases. The young artist born Powell Aguirre grew up in a musically creative household and listened to artists like Swedish House Mafia, Skrillex, and deadmau5 in his formative years. By 2020, Surf Mesa was well established and launching meteoric tracks like “ily” featuring Emilee and “Somewhere” featuring Gus Dapperton. He continued a string of vibrant collaborations with “Carried Away” (with Madison Beer), “Another Life” (with FLETCHER and Josh Golden), and “Marching Band” (with NITTI). Now, Surf trusts his gut when creating unforgettable music, preferring an organic, comfortable process. With an arsenal of new music on the verge of release and a quickly filling calendar, it would be easy for anyone to get lost in the hectic traveling, soaring expectations, and bruising beats. But Surf Mesa knows precisely what he’s doing, and it grounds him every step of the way.

Active since 1987, the year he debuted behind <a href="spotify:artist:6xyaria4AcxjRuJZLkWvMW">Guru</a> as one-half of <a href="spotify:artist:5cMgGlA1xGyeAB2ctYlRdZ">Gang Starr</a>, DJ Premier is one of the most crucial figures in hip-hop. No more than three producers (<a href="spotify:artist:6DPYiyq5kWVQS4RGwxzPC7">Dr. Dre</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:4iCwCMnqsNZ6atvRiADgtn">RZA</a>, and <a href="spotify:artist:7ajUo7DyiAOYvCndGLoJ1u">Prince Paul</a>) can test Premier's status as the most important trackmaster of the '90s, and no style is more distinctive. Aggressive and raw, a Premier track is an instantly recognizable soundclash of battling loops and heavy scratching -- all of them perfectly timed -- that evokes the sound of Brooklyn better than anyone. Besides helming <a href="spotify:artist:5cMgGlA1xGyeAB2ctYlRdZ">Gang Starr</a>'s seven albums, including the remarkable sequence of Step in the Arena (1991), Daily Operation (1992), and Hard to Earn (1994), Premier has productions on many of the East Coast's other important records of the '90s, such as <a href="spotify:artist:20qISvAhX20dpIbOOzGK3q">Nas</a>' Illmatic, <a href="spotify:artist:5me0Irg2ANcsgc93uaYrpb">the Notorious B.I.G.</a>'s Ready to Die, <a href="spotify:artist:3nFkdlSjzX9mRTtwJOzDYB">Jay-Z</a>'s Reasonable Doubt, <a href="spotify:artist:6CsOL9C9iLL0eWKINlDxzQ">Jeru the Damaja</a>'s The Sun Rises in the East, and <a href="spotify:artist:0Mz5XE0kb1GBnbLQm2VbcO">Mos Def</a>'s Black on Both Sides. In the following decades, Premier attained his highest level of pop success -- scoring a Top Ten hit with <a href="spotify:artist:1l7ZsJRRS8wlW3WfJfPfNS">Christina Aguilera</a>'s "Ain't No Other Man" (2006) -- while continuing to power the nationwide rap underground. Prolific throughout his career, Premier continues to lengthen his production discography with veteran and up-and-coming rappers alike. He has recorded extensively with <a href="spotify:artist:7pqZVedlsryCmpMGf9L9zV">Bumpy Knuckles</a> (2012's Kolexxxion) and <a href="spotify:artist:6DVipHzYsPlIoA0DW8Gmns">Royce da 5'9"</a> (2014's PRhyme and 2018's PRhyme 2) while unloading occasional solo projects (2022's Hip Hop 50, Vol. 1). Born Chris Martin, DJ Premier spent time in Brooklyn and Houston while growing up, and studied computer science at Prairie View A&M outside Houston. Known as Waxmaster C, he'd already learned to play a variety of instruments and also managed a record store. After moving back to Brooklyn, around 1987-1988 he came into contact with <a href="spotify:artist:6xyaria4AcxjRuJZLkWvMW">Guru</a>, a Boston native. <a href="spotify:artist:6xyaria4AcxjRuJZLkWvMW">Guru</a> had already formed a group named <a href="spotify:artist:5cMgGlA1xGyeAB2ctYlRdZ">Gang Starr</a> two years earlier (and recorded with <a href="spotify:artist:5g41NCgZ70kV1xXoSYoL8f">the 45 King</a>), but his former partner, Mike Dee, had returned to Boston. DJ Premier and <a href="spotify:artist:6xyaria4AcxjRuJZLkWvMW">Guru</a> signed to <a href="spotify:search:label%3A%22Wild+Pitch%22">Wild Pitch</a> and released a debut single ("Manifest") and album (No More Mr. Nice Guy). <a href="spotify:artist:5cMgGlA1xGyeAB2ctYlRdZ">Gang Starr</a>'s interest in melding hip-hop with jazz informed the record, and they were invited to add to the soundtrack for Spike Lee's 1990 film Mo' Better Blues. Their subsequent work was much more mature and unified, with a pair of instant East Coast classics (1991's Step in the Arena and 1992's Daily Operation) arriving in short order. DJ Premier had been working with other vocalists for years, and his productions for the 1990 landmark Funky Technician by <a href="spotify:artist:1C6G15UmVQMDGpYbdsf1Oi">Lord Finesse</a> and DJ Mike Smooth cemented his status as one of the best producers around. He soon began recording exclusively at D&D Studios, a spot soon to become a shrine for hip-hop fans (thanks in large part to his own work). The year 1994 was a huge one for Premier, probably the best year for any rap producer ever; in addition to dropping another <a href="spotify:artist:5cMgGlA1xGyeAB2ctYlRdZ">Gang Starr</a> classic, Hard to Earn, his productions appeared on five-star, all-time classics by <a href="spotify:artist:20qISvAhX20dpIbOOzGK3q">Nas</a> (Illmatic), <a href="spotify:artist:5me0Irg2ANcsgc93uaYrpb">the Notorious B.I.G.</a> (Ready to Die), and <a href="spotify:artist:6CsOL9C9iLL0eWKINlDxzQ">Jeru the Damaja</a> (The Sun Rises in the East), as well as <a href="spotify:artist:6futYSDVulYR2PktBjTB5W">Big Daddy Kane</a> and <a href="spotify:artist:1gPY6jETlC02stpXOUmSBH">Branford Marsalis</a>' <a href="spotify:artist:1wbW8PchZM0iSKq1V8HsRF">Buckshot LeFonque</a> project. Though his workload dropped off considerably during the late '90s, he still managed to place tracks on three of the first four <a href="spotify:artist:3nFkdlSjzX9mRTtwJOzDYB">Jay-Z</a> albums. Premier returned in force with the new millennium, including shots with <a href="spotify:artist:2GHclqNVjqGuiE5mA7BEoc">Common</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:6fF9HxdiSPGCXar8svBeHS">D.I.T.C.</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:336vr2M3Va0FjyvB55lJEd">D'Angelo</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:5pnbUBPifNnlusY8kTBivi">Jadakiss</a>, and <a href="spotify:artist:7hJcb9fa4alzcOq3EaNPoG">Snoop Dogg</a>. <a href="spotify:artist:5cMgGlA1xGyeAB2ctYlRdZ">Gang Starr</a> went out in top form with The Ownerz, their sixth album, in 2003, after which Premier remained consistently active. Each year into the late 2010s, he was involved with anywhere between several and over a dozen projects. His greatest commercial success was achieved with several co-productions on <a href="spotify:artist:1l7ZsJRRS8wlW3WfJfPfNS">Christina Aguilera</a>'s Back to Basics, including the number six pop hit "Ain't No Other Man." Apart from the occasional mainstream gig, such as remixing <a href="spotify:artist:04gDigrS5kc9YWfZHwBETP">Maroon 5</a> and scratching on a <a href="spotify:artist:7bXgB6jMjp9ATFy66eO08Z">Chris Brown</a> track, the producer worked primarily in the underground and issued the occasional solo project, such as multiple volumes of Beats That Collected Dust. He collaborated extensively with <a href="spotify:artist:7pqZVedlsryCmpMGf9L9zV">Bumpy Knuckles</a> (Kolexxxion, 2012) and <a href="spotify:artist:6DVipHzYsPlIoA0DW8Gmns">Royce da 5'9"</a> (PRhyme, 2015), and added to his West Coast contacts by clocking studio time with <a href="spotify:artist:6DPYiyq5kWVQS4RGwxzPC7">Dr. Dre</a> ("Animals," 2015), <a href="spotify:artist:360IAlyVv4PCEVjgyMZrxK">Miguel</a> ("2 Lovin U," 2017), and <a href="spotify:artist:4XqfpACObRB5AsBcUYjL8X">MC Eiht</a> (Which Way Iz West, 2017). He was among the executive producers of VH1's The Breaks, for which he also provided music, then reconnected with <a href="spotify:artist:6DVipHzYsPlIoA0DW8Gmns">Royce</a> for another hard-hitting album (PRhyme 2, 2018). <a href="spotify:artist:6xyaria4AcxjRuJZLkWvMW">Guru</a>'s 2010 death (from a form of blood cancer) had rendered The Ownerz the presumed final LP statement from <a href="spotify:artist:5cMgGlA1xGyeAB2ctYlRdZ">Gang Starr</a>, but that changed in 2019 with the release of One of the Best Yet. Utilizing previously unreleased vocals <a href="spotify:artist:6xyaria4AcxjRuJZLkWvMW">Guru</a> recorded from 2005 through 2009, Premier put together the seventh and final <a href="spotify:artist:5cMgGlA1xGyeAB2ctYlRdZ">Gang Starr</a> album with <a href="spotify:artist:6CsOL9C9iLL0eWKINlDxzQ">Jeru the Damaja</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:48elQHSJ3DmffHQpf89jxX">Group Home</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:3ZotbHeyVQKxQCPDJuQ4SU">Q-Tip</a>, and <a href="spotify:artist:6l3HvQ5sa6mXTsMTB19rO5">J. Cole</a> among the assortment of guests. Over 2020 and 2021, Premier produced tracks for <a href="spotify:artist:1YfEcTuGvBQ8xSD1f53UnK">Busta Rhymes</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:6Mo9PoU6svvhgEum7wh2Nd">Public Enemy</a>, and younger boom-bap proponents <a href="spotify:artist:0ABk515kENDyATUdpCKVfW">Westside Gunn</a> and <a href="spotify:artist:67gqUXxHedeUGDTxwBzdjS">Conway the Machine</a>. Premier then launched the <a href="spotify:search:label%3A%22Mass+Appeal%22">Mass Appeal</a> label's Hip-Hop 50 series with five-track EP Hip-Hop 50, Vol. 1. It landed in 2022 with verses from the likes of <a href="spotify:artist:39mHYiNmLR7p8PXNG8Wll6">Remy Ma</a> and <a href="spotify:artist:6NL31G53xThQXkFs7lDpL5">Rapsody</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:1W9qOBYRTfP7HcizWN43G1">Slick Rick</a> and <a href="spotify:artist:55Aa2cqylxrFIXC767Z865">Lil Wayne</a>, and <a href="spotify:search:label%3A%22Mass+Appeal%22">Mass Appeal</a> co-founder <a href="spotify:artist:20qISvAhX20dpIbOOzGK3q">Nas</a>. ~ John Bush & Andy Kellman, Rovi

With his sleek synth melodies, billowing basslines, and undeniable hooks, the GRAMMY-nominated artist ZHU creates tracks that are as sexy as they are sinister. Though many know ZHU as a producer and DJ, he’s much more than that: he’s also a singer, performer, instrumentalist, and, importantly, a songwriter and filmmaker, two facets he delves into for his ambitious new album and film GRACE. The dual projects navigate a carefully written journey from darkness to light, tension to release, uncertainty to peace. ZHU created an accompanying film (out this fall) that fully captures GRACE’s breathtaking audio-visual spectacle. The album, which will double as the film’s soundtrack, is the clearest manifestation of ZHU’s multifaceted artistic state of mind. ZHU first made his presence known to the world with his 2014 single, “Faded,” which was nominated for Best Dance Recording at the 2015 Grammy Awards. He stamped his spot with his genre-blurring 2016 debut, GENERATIONWHY. He only continued to evolve with subsequent projects like RINGOS DESERT (2018), DREAMLAND 2021 (2021), Musical Chairs Mixtape (Vol. 1) (2022) and Days Before Grace EP (2023), a prologue to Grace. Upon the release of GRACE, ZHU is reflecting on his career and he’s also ready for new boundaries to push. Far from a standard dance record or a collection of singles, ZHU intends GRACE to be listened to from beginning to end, as he tells a story that’s surely worth watching.

Simon Green's Bonobo project offers an eclectic, refreshingly organic form of electronic music fit for both dancing and chilling out. Debuting with the dusty, sample-driven down-tempo album Animal Magic in 2000, Green's sound and scope have since expanded dramatically, with his sophisticated compositions and arrangements incorporating greater usage of live instrumentation and encompassing influences ranging from jazz, folk, and soul to African, Asian, and Middle Eastern styles of music. While Green often tours solo as a DJ, he established a live touring ensemble in 2004, performing highly orchestrated versions of his songs to immense audiences, including several sold-out headlining gigs as well as main stage performances at festivals such as Coachella and Glastonbury. His work since 2010's Black Sands has become more club-minded, particularly paying mind to styles like U.K. garage and house. His popularity has continued to rise steadily, with 2017 release Migration charting in the Top 5 of the U.K. album chart. An almost silent figure among Ibizan romanticists, Green began in Brighton, England, debuting in 1999 with a track on Tru Thoughts Recordings' When Shapes Join Together compilation. Though tempted by offers from Mute and XL after the official issue of the Scuba EP and the "Terrapin" single, Green stuck with Tru Thoughts for the acclaimed debut LP Animal Magic (2000). Highlighted by down-tempo dub, funk, and an equally likable use of sitars, Animal Magic was an obvious success and plans were quickly made for careful European support appearances. In 2002, Tru Thoughts issued One Offs: Remixes & B Sides, compiling tracks from various limited vinyl releases as well as Bonobo's remixes for artists such as Amon Tobin and Pilote. Having signed to Coldcut's Ninja Tune label in 2001, Bonobo worked diligently on his sophomore album, Dial "M" for Monkey, which arrived in 2003. A tour to support the record followed and was documented on the 2005 EP Live Sessions, which featured a Four Tet remix of the previous album's single "Pick Up." Bonobo's first mix CD, It Came from the Sea, was released in 2005 as part of Ninja Tune's Solid Steel series. Days to Come, Bonobo's third album, appeared in 2006, and was markedly less electronic than his previous work, with much more of a jazz influence and spotlighting the slinky vocals of India-born vocalist Bajka, as well as one song featuring Ninja Tune artist Fink. BBC Radio 1 DJ Gilles Peterson's audience voted Days to Come Album of the Year, and media interest in Bonobo grew exponentially, with his tracks frequently being featured in films, television programs and commercials, and video games ever since. A performance DVD, Live at Koko, appeared in 2009, followed by the release of single "The Keeper," which introduced the world to the vocal talents of honey-voiced British soul singer Andreya Triana. The full-length Black Sands followed in 2010, featuring Triana on two more excellent singles, "Eyesdown" and "Stay the Same," the former of which was driven by a shuffling U.K. garage-style beat, updating Bonobo's sound for the post-dubstep era and introducing his sound to new audiences. Green produced Triana's debut full-length, Lost Where I Belong, which Ninja Tune also released in 2010. Black Sands Remixed appeared in 2012, featuring reworks by Lapalux, FaltyDL, Machinedrum, and many others, as well as a couple of non-album tracks. The North Borders, Bonobo's fifth full-length album, arrived in 2013, featuring R&B singer Erykah Badu among its guests. The album was Bonobo's most well-received work to date, charting in the Top 30 of the U.K. album chart and kick-starting a wildly successful international tour. By the end of 2013, Green contributed to the LateNightTales mix series, which featured Bonobo's cover of Donovan's "Get Thy Bearings." The North Borders Tour: Live appeared on Ninja Tune in 2014, documenting the Bonobo live experience aurally as well as visually. During the same year, Bonobo released two EPs, Flashlight and Ten Tigers, which continued to explore his dancefloor-friendly side. Studio album Migration appeared in early 2017; the full-length featured guest appearances from Rhye, Nick Murphy (formerly known as Chet Faker), and Moroccan group Innov Gnawa. The album was even more successful, peaking at number five in the U.K. chart and winning Album of the Year at the inaugural Electronic Music Awards. In 2019, up-tempo mix Fabric Presents Bonobo was released by Fabric, kicking off the 20-year anniversary of the London super-club. ~ Dean Carlson & Paul Simpson

Tom Holkenborg, aka Junkie XL, is a Grammy nominated multi platinum producer, musician, composer and educator whose versatility puts him on the cutting edge of contemporary music, and whose thirst for innovation is helping to reimagine the world of composition. Known as a ‘Full-Contact Composer’, Holkenborg is hands-on at every stage of the composing process, a multi-instrumentalist who combines a mastery of studio engineering, classical musical training and an innate sense of curiosity. He’s as adept working with a 50 piece philharmonic orchestra as he is with a wall of modular synths, playing a bass guitar or building his own physical and digital instruments. His drive to reimagine what’s possible and share that knowledge with the next generation of composers is what makes Holkenborg a unique force, and one of the most in-demand film composers in the world. Tom’s film scoring credits have grossed over $2 billion at the box office and include Mad Max: Fury Road, Deadpool, Black Mass, Alita Battle Angel, Divergent, Brimstone, The Dark Tower, Tomb Raider, Terminator: Dark Fate, the record setting Sonic the Hedgehog 1+2, recent monster hits Justice League: The Snyder Cut, 3000 Years of Longing and Godzilla vs Kong. He has worked with directors including Peter Jackson, Robert Rodriguez, James Cameron, George Miller, Christopher Nolan, Zack Snyder and Tim Miller among many others.

Rough but smooth male vocal quartet Jagged Edge formed in Atlanta, Georgia, consisting of identical twin brothers Brandon "Case Dinero" Casey and Brian "Brasco" Casey, who had moved from their native Hartford, Connecticut; Kyle Norman (aka "Quick"), whom they'd met through church activities, and Richard Wingo (aka "Wingo Dollar"), a late addition to the group suggested by Xscape's Kandi Burruss, who took their demo to super-producer Jermaine Dupri. Jagged Edge signed to Dupri's Columbia-distributed So So Def label and in the summer of 1997 released their debut single, "The Way That You Talk," featuring appearances by Dupri and Da Brat. It reached the Top 40 of the R&B chart and was also a pop chart entry. Early in 1998, Jagged Edge released their first album, A Jagged Era, which went gold and spawned the Top 20 R&B, Top 40 pop hit "Gotta Be." Their next single, "He Can't Love U," appeared in the fall of 1998 and reached the Top Five of the R&B chart and the Top 20 of the pop chart, going gold in the process. It prefaced the group's second album, J.E. Heartbreak (its title a nod to New Edition's "N.E. Heart Break"), which topped the R&B chart and hit the Top Ten of the pop chart, selling over two million copies and spawning the number one R&B hits "Let's Get Married" (also Top 20 pop) and "Promise" (also Top Ten pop). By the time of the release of Jagged Edge's third album, Jagged Little Thrill, in 2001, its leadoff single, "Where the Party At" (featuring Nelly), was nearing the R&B Top Ten and was in the pop Top 40. Hard and Jagged Edge followed, respectively, in 2003 and 2006. For 2007's The Baby Makin' Project, the group switched to Island, but Dupri had since taken up the post of president at the label's urban division, making the transition from Columbia a welcome and natural one. The album debuted at number eight on the Billboard 200. Jagged Edge then moved to Slip N Slide, where they released The Remedy in 2011. Three years later, they reunited with Dupri and So So Def for J.E. Heartbreak II. A Greatest Hits collection arrived in 2016 before the group returned to the studio to record their ninth full-length, 2017's Layover. Released that summer, Layover featured their typically rich vocal harmonies with contemporary production that included some trap inspiration. ~ John Bush & William Ruhlmann

Hole Erth, Chaz Bear’s eighth full-length studio record as Toro y Moi, is the genre shapeshifter’s most unexpected and bold move to date, with Bear diving headlong into rap-rock, Soundcloud rap and Y2K emo. The album blitzes anthemic pop-punk next to autotuned, melancholic rap – two genres that inform one another now more than ever before — and packs in the most features ever on a Toro y Moi album. A sense of nostalgia sneaks its way into almost every Toro y Moi release, but angst is an emotion that Bear has never intentionally explored the way he does here. Tracks like “Tuesday'' channel a specific, yet forever-relatable sense of adolescent unease. A distorted guitar riff leads into a repeating chorus that conjures misunderstood teenagers singing aloud, maybe too loud, while riding bikes through American suburbs. This foreboding can also be heard on “HOV,” though not without poking some fun with lines like “Romance is so cold / My advice? To bring a coat.” Bear has the energy, but is acutely aware that his energy isn’t forever. At a time when the internet is blending multiple genres into one at an increasingly rapid pace, Bear accomplishes the rare feat of keeping up with the contemporary alternative listener. Constantly changing, evolving and experimenting is the heart of Toro y Moi, and on Hole Erth Bear challenges but also reclaims himself, embracing the myriad sounds and eras that formed him, while crashing new worlds together.

LCD Soundsystem exist at the point of a Venn diagram where the loose grooves of disco bump up against the wiry spikiness of post-punk, and their songs hover between sharp-edged humor and heartfelt emotion. Their M.O. was note-perfect from the begininng and when they debuted in 2002 with the hilarious, hipster-spoofing single “Losing My Edge," it set up the band and their label <a href="spotify:search:label%3A%22DFA%22">DFA</a>, as the coolest things around. Driven by the vision of <a href="spotify:artist:03XnX4XEVVtZNUBSdUlzsB">James Murphy</a>, the band built on the dance floor impact of the song, releasing timeless singles like “Daft Punk is Playing at My House” and “Drunk Girls,” as well as albums like 2007’s Sound of Silver that put the band firmly at the head of the neo-disco class. Along the way, <a href="spotify:artist:03XnX4XEVVtZNUBSdUlzsB">Murphy</a> showed a surprisingly poignant side on songs like "New York I Love You But You're Bringing Me Down" which stuck a deeper emotional chord than their more up-tempo songs. The band also became a huge live draw, eventually selling out a farewell show at Madison Square Garden in 2011. The re-formed Soundsystem returned with the vintage-sounding American Dream in 2017, then sporadically returned to fill clubs and in 2022 cranked out “New Body Rhumba,” a dancefloor-filling single that had the same sharp edge as ever. <a href="spotify:artist:03XnX4XEVVtZNUBSdUlzsB">Murphy</a> cut his teeth in the '90s, first as a member of <a href="spotify:artist:1Pw3RkGGaIjBMRXbQQvz1p">Pony</a> (an average post-hardcore band with heavy debts to its inspirations) and then with <a href="spotify:artist:5EowVIt0s3wuKS6kB3g5zx">Speedking</a> (a much stronger, more unique band.) All the time spent toiling in indie rock took a toll on <a href="spotify:artist:03XnX4XEVVtZNUBSdUlzsB">Murphy</a>, but he built his own studio and became increasingly adept at engineering and producing other bands. While working on <a href="spotify:artist:10kGEgP8MxhlfeA2tMinsL">David Holmes</a>' Bow Down to the Exit Sign, he struck up a relationship with programmer/producer Tim Goldsworthy that developed into a partnership. By the end of 2002, there were several releases on <a href="spotify:artist:03XnX4XEVVtZNUBSdUlzsB">Murphy</a> and Goldsworthy's <a href="spotify:search:label%3A%22DFA%22">DFA</a> label, most of which involved the duo in some capacity. LCD's "Losing My Edge," backed with an excellent neo-post-punk dance track called "Beat Connection," was one of them. <a href="spotify:artist:03XnX4XEVVtZNUBSdUlzsB">Murphy</a> eventually scattered three other LCD singles throughout the end of 2004 and released the full-length LCD Soundsystem in January 2005. At the time of its release, the <a href="spotify:search:label%3A%22DFA%22">DFA</a> label was more popular than ever; <a href="spotify:artist:03XnX4XEVVtZNUBSdUlzsB">Murphy</a> and Goldsworthy had remixes for <a href="spotify:artist:3KTzs16kNylBR78QZSkiyx">Metro Area</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:5wPoxI5si3eJsYYwyXV4Wi">N.E.R.D.</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:2n6FviARgtjjimZXu18uRM">Le Tigre</a>, and <a href="spotify:artist:7xNPROyVfkH4mcIxxCxySm">Junior Senior</a> behind them, as well as failed sessions with <a href="spotify:artist:26dSoYclwsYLMAKD3tpOr4">Britney Spears</a> that might have benefited from an interpreter. <a href="spotify:artist:4qwGe91Bz9K2T8jXTZ815W">Janet Jackson</a> was another unlikely admirer seeking the duo's assistance, but <a href="spotify:artist:03XnX4XEVVtZNUBSdUlzsB">Murphy</a> didn't bother to follow up on her request. <a href="spotify:artist:03XnX4XEVVtZNUBSdUlzsB">Murphy</a> did respond to Nike, who commissioned him to record a lengthy piece of music as part of a promotion. 45:33, released in October 2006, was aimed at joggers, but <a href="spotify:artist:03XnX4XEVVtZNUBSdUlzsB">Murphy</a> later confessed that he didn't jog himself -- mixed martial arts were more his thing, he claimed -- and was driven by the opportunity to make something in the vein of <a href="spotify:artist:38KMWWA4MPJ6VxlO9kx6CU">Manuel Göttsching</a>'s early-'80s electronic landmark E2-E4. (<a href="spotify:search:label%3A%22DFA%22">DFA</a> would later issue 45:33 on CD, breaking the track into six parts and adding three additional cuts.) The second proper LCD Soundsystem album, Sound of Silver, was released in March 2007. It contained <a href="spotify:artist:03XnX4XEVVtZNUBSdUlzsB">Murphy</a>'s most affecting songwriting and peaked within the Top 50 of the Billboard 200. Led by the single "Drunk Girls" and an accompanying Spike Jonze-directed video, LCD Soundsystem's third studio album, This Is Happening, was released three years later. Riding high on the acclaim the album garnered, the band toured the world with fellow dance-pop group <a href="spotify:artist:37uLId6Z5ZXCx19vuruvv5">Hot Chip</a> for much of 2010. While in London on June 29 of that year, the group recorded a full-band session at Miloco Studio. The freewheeling recording of the show was released by <a href="spotify:search:label%3A%22DFA%22">DFA</a> as London Sessions in January of 2011. Right around this time, <a href="spotify:artist:03XnX4XEVVtZNUBSdUlzsB">Murphy</a> announced that he was retiring the LCD Soundsystem name. The band played a farewell show at a sold-out Madison Square Garden in New York on April 2, 2011 and released the set the following year as The Long Goodbye: LCD Soundsystem Live at Madison Square Garden. In the years following, <a href="spotify:artist:03XnX4XEVVtZNUBSdUlzsB">Murphy</a> kept very busy with a variety of projects. He produced <a href="spotify:artist:3kjuyTCjPG1WMFCiyc5IuB">Arcade Fire</a>'s Reflektor, remixed a <a href="spotify:artist:0oSGxfWSnnOXhD2fKuz2Gy">David Bowie</a> track, designed special 11-foot tall speakers for DJs, created his own brand of coffee, opened a wine bar, and did the score for Noah Baumbach's film When We Were Young. In late 2015, rumors began circulating that LCD was re-forming, but these were quickly shot down by the band's label, <a href="spotify:search:label%3A%22DFA%22">DFA</a>. These denials proved to be a smoke screen and the group issued a new single, "Christmas Will Break Your Heart," before the year's end. Soon after, they announced plans to headline Coachella, play a series of live dates, and release a new album in 2016. While the effort did not materialize that year, LCD did deliver a pair of songs in May 2017, "Call the Police" and "American Dream." They proved to be the first singles from American Dream, the band's fourth proper album. Featuring <a href="spotify:artist:03XnX4XEVVtZNUBSdUlzsB">Murphy</a> playing most of the instruments, with help from live band members multi-instrumentalist Al Doyle, vocalist <a href="spotify:artist:0xDT2bQJYfy8CYs8JlmH3B">Nancy Whang</a>, keyboardist <a href="spotify:artist:47bza08PYdqPcVMAkPJUfT">Gavin Russom</a>, bassist Tyler Pope, and drummer Pat Mahoney, the record was released in September of 2017 by the band's new label home <a href="spotify:search:label%3A%22Columbia%22">Columbia</a>. It was their first album to reach the top of the Billboard Charts and the song "Tonite" won a 2018 Grammy Award for Best Dance Recording. While the band was out touring the world behind the album, they stopped at Electric Lady Studios in New York to record part of their live set (along with covers of <a href="spotify:artist:5PYuBRQMHh7nWmdV076sH9">Heaven 17</a>'s "(We Don’t Need This) Fascist Groove Thang" and <a href="spotify:artist:1aX2dmV8XoHYCOQRxjPESG">the Human League</a>'s "Seconds") for posterity under the title Electric Lady Sessions. The LP was released in early 2019 by <a href="spotify:search:label%3A%22DFA%22">DFA</a>. The band went on hiatus soon after, with <a href="spotify:artist:03XnX4XEVVtZNUBSdUlzsB">Murphy</a> stating that the group had no interest in touring again until they had released another album. They did soon decide to play a residency in late 2021at Brooklyn Steel, minus <a href="spotify:artist:47bza08PYdqPcVMAkPJUfT">Russom</a>, who had left the band. They also put together a sitcom/live performance/art piece with the help of Eric Wareheim that aired on Amazon, then the group appeared on Saturday Night Live in early 2022. All this activity spurred them to make plans for another series of live shows consisting of multi-night residencies across North America and England. They also went into the recording studio to record a track -- the typically propulsive "New Body Rhumba" -- for the soundtrack to Noah Baumbach's 2022 film White Noise. In late 2023, they launched a tour of their hometown, playing a dozen shows at various locales across the city, then did the same thing a year later. They also released "X-Ray Eyes", a robotic dance track that served as advance notice for the group's forthcoming fifth album.~ Andy Kellman & Tim Sendra

After a period of isolation, of introspection and a journey inward, you step outside. Out into the world, emerging as a new self, prepared to face the external. Yet, as you come up for air, and cross over the threshold, nothing is as you remember it. There’s been a shift in the atmosphere and you’re overwhelmed by a sweeping, corporal sense of emotion. You can feel and see the tension, saturated in the air. As if the world is now cloaked in a palpable sense of feeling. Enter The Efferusphere. You’ve set foot into a parallel dimension – one in which emotional energy defines the law of what you see, of what you hear, based on how you feel. The Efferusphere is the emotional atmosphere of life on earth. This phenomenon shakes you at your core, wholly exposing you to a seemingly impossible level of depth in introspection – but it is a safe space to be a witness to yourself. You can finally observe your emotions rather than simply feeling them. You’re struck by a sensation never experienced before: one you could not have possibly ever envisioned, akin to synesthesia for the soul. You find yourself physically surrounded by isolated emotional energy, as if they composite what we commonly understand as the weather & ether we move through. Enthralled by this life-altering discovery, like entering a world painted through the lens of magical realism, Big Wild finds himself captivated and inspired to open this newfound world to those around him within his new album: The Efferusphere.

Layton Giordani continues to reign as a trailblazer in the house and techno world, solidifying his presence at the forefront of the global scene. A New York native, Giordani’s journey into electronic music began in his teens, inspired by the legendary sets of Danny Tenaglia at Pacha NY. This profound experience drove him to pursue a career behind the decks, eventually securing a pivotal residency at Output NY in Brooklyn. Here, Giordani's talent flourished, catching the eyes of notable figures in the techno scene. Giordani’s big break came under the mentorship of Adam Beyer, the techno heavyweight behind the label Drumcode. With Beyer’s support, Layton’s debut ‘Unspoken’ EP on Truesoul, followed quickly by his debut on Drumcode with Rivington, marked his arrival as a rising force in the techno scene. Fast forward to 2024, Giordani released 10 massive tracks, including his remix of ‘Last Night’ with Anyma which rocketed to #1 overall on Beatport and surpassed 100,000 daily streams on Spotify at its peak. Prior to this, ‘PATT (Party All The Time)’ with Adam Beyer and Green Velvet also topped the charts. Other notable releases from the year include ‘Paranoid’, Giordani’s debut on Experts Only, his remix of Dom Dolla’s ‘girl$’, and first official remix of deadmau5’s ‘Strobe.’ These accolades have quickly made Giordani one of the hottest names in house and techno to keep an eye on for 2025 and beyond.

BIO
Debuting in the mid-'90s, Washington, D.C.'s Thievery Corporation became one of the most popular acts associated with chilled-out, lounge-friendly electronic music. Initially known for making abstract, instrumental, midtempo dance music whose classification fell somewhere between trip-hop and acid jazz, their sound expanded to include vocalists and live instrumentation on 2000's The Mirror Conspiracy (their most popular album in the United States), which was heavily influenced by bossa nova and soul. From 2002's The Richest Man in Babylon onward, their albums became increasingly more political, reflecting their antiwar, pro-humanity stance in addition to their appreciation of all of the world's cultures. Likewise, their music has explored several additional influences and genres, including Indian classical, hip-hop, and reggae. Following the dark psychedelia of 2005's The Cosmic Game, 2008's Radio Retaliation was a protest album incorporating styles such as Afrobeat and go-go, and the Jamaica-recorded The Temple of I & I (2017) was devoted to dub and reggae. 2020's Symphonik saw them rework live favorites with <a href="spotify:artist:5wWxVeUfHDUXotmcddtzvF">Prague's FILMharmonic Orchestra</a>. Featuring the production skills of <a href="spotify:artist:2oOHsFHeYnIBTYY8bBL5wG">Rob Garza</a> and <a href="spotify:artist:4tgBpjW0GVvKqP7uY2OHYB">Eric Hilton</a>, Thievery Corporation released several warmly received singles on their own <a href="spotify:search:label%3A%22Eighteenth+Street+Lounge%22">Eighteenth Street Lounge</a> (<a href="spotify:search:label%3A%22ESL%22">ESL</a>) label (named after their own Washington, D.C. bar and nightclub) in 1996. Although previously known primarily among acid jazz and rare-groove DJs, the group shot to minor celebrity when a track from one of their early 12"s appeared on respected DJ/producers <a href="spotify:artist:39ywlwtGw8RTGobakgb11L">Kruder & Dorfmeister</a>'s mix session for <a href="spotify:search:label%3A%22Studio+K7%22">Studio K7</a>'s DJ-Kicks series. Similar in many respects to that Viennese production duo, Thievery Corporation subsequently grew in popularity among a wider audience of DJs and headphonauts. The duo's debut LP, Sounds from the Thievery Hi-Fi, initially appeared in 1996 before seeing wider release the following year, along with a compilation of Washington, D.C.-based electronica artists titled Dubbed Out in DC (both albums were released by <a href="spotify:search:label%3A%22ESL%22">ESL</a>). After signing with the British <a href="spotify:search:label%3A%224AD%22">4AD</a> label, Thievery Corporation began to work on their second LP but were forced to postpone its release date after their tapes were stolen in a mugging. The stopgap remix compilation Abductions & Reconstructions was released in 1999, as was the duo's DJ-Kicks installment. Their second proper album, The Mirror Conspiracy, followed one year later. The release featured a greater emphasis on live instrumentation and vocals than their debut, with guest singers including <a href="spotify:artist:4CCsHV7LZEpjJNNtKvFbzA">Pam Bricker</a> and <a href="spotify:artist:6gk4ierjjSVPoZep27VfZz">Bebel Gilberto</a>. The duo's growing fame made them a natural choice to select tracks for the 2001 <a href="spotify:search:label%3A%22Verve%22">Verve</a> compilation Sounds from the Verve Hi-Fi, which contained vintage Latin jazz and bossa nova cuts from the '60s and '70s. They returned to their own work in 2002 with The Richest Man in Babylon, their first album to inject a message of protest into their music, which featured guest vocalists such as <a href="spotify:artist:08j69Ndyx1P7RLO3Janb5P">Emiliana Torrini</a> and <a href="spotify:artist:0AcEt9ujUBWQ50cZsaskWo">Shinehead</a>. The mix album Outernational Sound and remix EP Babylon Rewound both appeared in 2004. That same year, the track "Lebanese Blonde" was featured in the highly successful Garden State soundtrack, which later won a Grammy Award. Released in 2005, the darker, more psychedelic full-length The Cosmic Game featured guest vocalists <a href="spotify:artist:2DS5RPK5A2GQTucYlgsQdE">Perry Farrell</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:16eRpMNXSQ15wuJoeqguaB">the Flaming Lips</a>' <a href="spotify:artist:5gfPxEps3rAgyDzS5hfxHz">Wayne Coyne</a>, and <a href="spotify:artist:20vuBdFblWUo2FCOvUzusB">David Byrne</a>, and the remix compilation Versions followed in 2006. As election season approached, Thievery Corporation released the politically minded studio effort Radio Retaliation in September 2008. Featuring a guest appearance from <a href="spotify:artist:6qbtuhThjXYnpldXCczlDd">Mr. Lif</a>, Culture of Fear arrived in 2011 and mixed social commentary with dub tracks. Their 2014 release, Saudade, turned their music in a different direction, being a bossa nova-based effort with guest vocalists like <a href="spotify:artist:7dEhKFxhTCfs9DJVnh8SV9">LouLou Ghelichkhani</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:3SyRjJX3ux5gvcAgGBrJ79">Karina Zeviani</a>, and Elin Melgarejo. For their eighth studio album, 2017's The Temple of I & I, the duo temporarily relocated to Jamaica, where they could fully channel their dub/reggae influences into the recording process. The following year, more tracks from their Jamaican sessions emerged -- these were collated alongside various remixes for their 2018 companion album, Treasures from the Temple. They helped to re-launch the performance area at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in 2017, accompanied by up-and-coming classical musicians. To commemorate the performance, they re-recorded a selection of their live staples with <a href="spotify:artist:5wWxVeUfHDUXotmcddtzvF">Prague's FILMharmonic Orchestra</a>, going on to release them on the compilation album Symphonik in 2020. A streaming exclusive set of remixes for yoga workouts appeared in 2022. ~ Sean Cooper, Rovi

Kai "Sango" Wright refers to his productions simply as beats, leaving the classification of his stylistically variable output -- which has drawn from contemporary R&B and hip-hop styles, non-commercial dubstep, funk carioca, and downtempo electronica -- to the listener. Wright was born in Washington state but spent a good portion of his childhood in Grand Rapids, Michigan prior to attending college 50 miles south at Western Michigan University. When Wright graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts' degree in graphic design, his number of short-form releases was already in double digits, and he had the support of Soulection, which had issued his 2013 set North. Additionally, Wright had begun flirting with the mainstream by co-producing "Cold Sweat" for Tinashe's Top 20 2014 hit Aquarius, and contributed to "The Sequence," off Bryson Tiller's T R A P S O U L, a Top 20 entry during the fall of 2015. Wright's own releases continued to flow after he moved back to Seattle. Among the titles were 2016's Hours Spent Loving You (a collaboration with Xavier Omar) and 2017's De Mim, Pra Voce, both of which were self-released. ~ Andy Kellman

Rapper, producer, and actor Q-Tip is one of the most acclaimed figures in hip-hop, a solo artist and the longtime MC with pioneering alternative hip-hop trio A Tribe Called Quest. Born Jonathan William Davis in New York City on November 20, 1970, Q-Tip co-founded A Tribe Called Quest in 1988 with schoolmates Ali Shaheed Muhammad and Malik "Phife Dawg" Taylor while they were students at the Murray Bergtraum High School for Business Careers. Tribe's debut single, "Description of a Fool," appeared in the summer of 1989, and after signing to Jive Records, the trio issued its debut LP, People's Instinctive Travels and the Paths of Rhythm, a year later. With its fiercely intelligent, socially progressive lyrics and brilliant fusion of rap and jazz, the group emerged as one of the most popular and influential in all of hip-hop, producing such classic LPs as 1991's The Low End Theory and 1993's Midnight Marauders before disbanding in 1998. Q-Tip mounted a solo career with the 1999 release of Amplified. Home to the hit singles "Vivrant Thing" and "Breathe and Stop," Amplified rose to the Top 30 on the Billboard 200. Although it was certified gold, Q-Tip plunged into label limbo for many years afterward. His Amplified follow-up, Kamaal the Abstract, was completed in 2002 but halted by Arista; it would not receive an official release until 2009 on Jive Records. Before that, his de facto sophomore set appeared in late 2008, earning its title, The Renaissance (Universal Motown). The Grammy-nominated album included the single "Gettin Up," as well as appearances by Raphael Saadiq ("WeFight/WeLove"), Amanda Diva ("ManWomanBoogie"), Norah Jones ("Life Is Better"), and D'Angelo ("Believe"). In addition to his solo material, Q-Tip also guested on a number of notable tracks for other artists. Starting with De La Soul's 1989 single "Buddy," he has also appeared on Deee-Lite's "Groove Is in the Heart," Beastie Boys' "Get It Together," the Chemical Brothers' Grammy-winning "Galvanize" and "Go," R.E.M.'s "The Outsiders," Mark Ronson's "Bang Bang Bang," Janet Jackson's "Got 'Til It's Gone," Jay-Z's "Girls, Girls, Girls," Hiatus Kaiyote's Grammy-nominated "Nakamarra," and D'Angelo's "Ain't That Easy." He has also produced for Kanye West, Jay-Z, Run-D.M.C., Nas, Mariah Carey, Beyoncé, and many more. In 2016, Q-Tip and Tribe reunited and recorded their sixth album, just before the untimely passing of Phife Dawg. Q-Tip and the surviving members toured behind We Got It from Here... Thank You 4 Your Service, which topped the Billboard 200 and went on to become one of the most critically acclaimed releases of the year. A Tribe Called Quest performed their final concert together in late 2017 in Dorset, England. The next year, Q-Tip added another notable collaboration to his catalog with a cover of Elton John's "Don't Go Breaking My Heart," a duet with Demi Lovato that featured on John's reimagined covers album, Revamp. ~ Neil Z. The first five years of Porter Robinson’s career had more twists and turns than many of his DJ peers experience in decades behind the decks. The Chapel Hill, North Carolina, resident released his first singles, including “Say My Name,” in 2010, when he was just 18 years old—some six years after the precocious young producer had first begun frequenting the tech forums that helped him hone his chops for jagged, high-energy EDM. In 2011, he signed his <I>Spitfire</I> EP to Skrillex’s OWSLA label, a natural fit for Robinson’s hyperkinetic “complextro” sound, and he introduced an even more emotional dimension with 2012’s melodic “Language.” But his instincts took him away from the familiar terrain of the festival main stage. He cowrote Zedd’s 2012 “Clarity,” heralding a new vulnerability in EDM, and moved sharply away from what he called the “DJ-friendly limits” of the form with 2014’s <I>Worlds</I>, his debut album, slowing the tempo and sinking into billowing synth-pop reveries that had more in common with M83 than Swedish House Mafia. On “Sad Machine,” one of the album’s all-the-feels highlights, he paired his own vocals with Vocaloid software, nodding to his fascination with Japanese pop culture and elegantly closing the distance between humans and machines. Three years later, he doubled down on that passion with his Virtual Self alias, a ’90s-flavored foray into anime and dance-driven video games—and a fitting riposte to any suggestion that he’s changed his tune.

After follow-up EPs like 2015's The Throes of Winter and 2017's dance chart-topping Creation reflected a growing emphasis on song form, he landed just outside of the dance/electronic Top Ten with 2019's "Need Your Love," a collaboration with <a href="spotify:artist:2ZRQcIgzPCVaT9XKhXZIzh">Gryffin</a> and singer/songwriter <a href="spotify:artist:2RQXRUsr4IW1f3mKyKsy4B">Noah Kahan</a>. A decade into his recording career, he presented his first official album-length release, Beyond the Veil, in 2022. The onetime drummer transitioned to music production in 2007, and shortly thereafter he won a competition held by the trance act <a href="spotify:artist:10gzBoINW3cLJfZUka8Zoe">Above & Beyond</a> by remixing their song "You Got to Go." Success snowballed. At 25 years old, Montalvo's debut EP, Days to Come, was mentioned on Vibe's Top Electronic Albums list of 2012, and later that year he gained attention internationally when his music picked up regular rotation on BBC's Radio 1. A second EP, Polarize, was released by <a href="spotify:search:label%3A%22Viper+Recordings%22">Viper Recordings</a> in April 2013. He moved to the <a href="spotify:search:label%3A%22Casablanca%22">Casablanca</a> label, and a year later, the Worlds Apart EP hit number two on the Billboard Top Dance/Electronic Albums chart, also entering the Billboard 200. Continuing a slowly growing emphasis on song form, The Throes of Winter returned him to both charts in 2015 and topped the Heatseekers Albums chart. In 2017, the Creation EP became his first Billboard dance/electronic number one. The following year, Seven Lions launched his own Ophelia record label, marking the occasion with the single "Calling You Home." More label releases followed quickly, including the Ocean EP with <a href="spotify:artist:6CCTvLyIHqUhY6VQizt150">Jason Ross</a>, and the Start Again EP, which included the single "Dreamin'," with <a href="spotify:artist:2r7POU2f5jV6x3k4vsNwrM">Fiora</a>. Also in 2018, he paired with <a href="spotify:artist:20DZAfCuP1TKZl5KcY7z3Q">SLANDER</a> and <a href="spotify:artist:7lZauDnRoAC3kmaYae2opv">Dabin</a> on the single "First Time" and issued the guest-heavy Where I Won't Be Found EP, featuring the likes of Skyler Stonestreet and <a href="spotify:artist:4zjO8Jhi2pciJJzd8Q6rga">Unlike Pluto</a>. Collaborations with Wooli, <a href="spotify:artist:4AT7XlLBevgZIiKvZQ83ye">Trivecta</a>, and <a href="spotify:artist:6HraHl4uwIQFixUu3J49BK">Crystal Skies</a>, and the dance/electronic number 12 hit "Need Your Love," with <a href="spotify:artist:2ZRQcIgzPCVaT9XKhXZIzh">Gryffin</a> and <a href="spotify:artist:2RQXRUsr4IW1f3mKyKsy4B">Noah Kahan</a>, were among his releases in 2019. Seven Lions delivered the EP Find Another Way in 2020. That year also welcomed the arrival of tracks "Don't Wanna Fall" (with <a href="spotify:artist:3HHfEn7yPOy3IiHS6CHG97">Last Heroes</a> and <a href="spotify:artist:1sKIizVYeHkGy7Tjmn9QRj">Haliene</a>) and "Only Now" (with Tyler Graves), the latter of which landed in the Top 40 of the dance/electronic songs chart. The remix EP 1999 then followed in 2021. In October 2022, collaborations with <a href="spotify:artist:2j551jqYq2HQH3R63vtSQi">So Below</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:6I0dJ6q33CuL6CDk1lBo57">Lights</a>, and <a href="spotify:artist:77BznF1Dr1k5KyEZ6Nn3jB">Vancouver Sleep Clinic</a> were among the tracks to appear on Seven Lions' first official album, Beyond the Veil. ~ Jason Lymangrover & Marcy Donelson, Rovi

RL Grime first came to prominence as a New York-based teenager delivering monster, viral remixes of Chief Keef’s “Love Sosa” and Kanye West’s “Mercy.” He established himself as a unique artist in his space with a striking monochromatic aesthetic, a series of animated music videos, and an annual Halloween mix that has included drops from Goosebumps author RL Stine, comedian Hannibal Buress, and Tony Hawk. After solidifying his fanbase with a few highly-regarded EPs, RL Grime independently released his first studio album, “VOID,” in 2014. It premiered as the #1 Electronic album in the United States and remained in that position for a month. At that point—with over 150 million plays, rave reviews and magazine covers, and sets at the biggest festivals in the world including Coachella & Lollapalooza—most artists would cash out. RL Grime stuck to his underground roots and limited his releases. His portfolio grew with an expanding list of collaborators that included Big Sean, Miguel, and Skrillex. And in late 2017, he emerged with “Era,” a tour-de-force single that Billboard described as “exotic, massive, and full-of-left-turns.” Its epic, cinematic sound announced a new era and an accompanying album: NOVA. RL Grime’s uncompromising artistry has paid off. NOVA was preceded by a sold-tour that included stops in Australia, Los Angeles, and New York. Its hype has only swelled in the absence of information surrounding the album, leaving fans and blogs to speculate on their own.

DRAMA is the multicultural collaboration between producer Na’el Shehade’s chic Chicago house-infused production style, and vocalist Via Rosa whose soulful delivery is inspired by the improvisational nature of jazz and playful patterns of hip-hop and bossa nova. The duo play to the complementary dynamics of their unlikely pairing by blurring the lines between R&B and dance-pop, heartbreak and bliss. Musical collaborations include Flight Facilities, Poolside, Jamila Woods, Tensnake and with Gorgon City for their global dance hit, “You’ve Done Enough”. Since a chance meeting nearly 10 years ago led to the creation of DRAMA, the duo has bootstrapped a subtle rise on their own terms, self-releasing several EPs and mapping multiple tours and playing some of the biggest festivals with Midwestern grit.

Just one in the cast of crucial producers who made <a href="spotify:search:label%3A%22Strictly+Rhythm%22">Strictly Rhythm</a> the premiere American house label during the early '90s, Roger Sanchez grew into a prolific remixer, world-class mainstream DJ, and top global-house name by the end of the decade. Though he concentrated more on mix albums than proper studio productions under his own name, Sanchez gained much respect with club kids as well as the dancefloor intelligentsia. Born in New York to parents of Dominican heritage, Sanchez attended Manhattan's School of Art & Design with several future hip-hop legends including <a href="spotify:artist:6YDg64ZbQWVMSCjOmWVewB">Kurtis Mantronik</a>. He was well into the graffiti and break-dancing scene during the early '80s and began DJing by the age of 13. After mixing for several years at New York hot spots like the Tunnel -- even while he was studying architecture at the Pratt Institute -- Sanchez finally left college in 1987 to give music a full-time shot. His club Ego Trip was soon booming (with Sanchez mixtapes selling briskly on Broadway) and he never looked back. By 1989, Gladys Pizarro from <a href="spotify:search:label%3A%22Strictly+Rhythm+Records%22">Strictly Rhythm Records</a> had touched base to see if Sanchez was interested in production; one year later, he had recorded his first single, "Luv Dancin," as <a href="spotify:artist:5npk2VWFPRppHeqXqQVFw8">Underground Solution</a>. The single's tough underground grooves charged the New York house scene, then just on the cusp of a turnover from the smooth garage sound to a rougher style influenced by European trance and techno. Despite stumbling into remixing by accident -- after giving a bad review to a single, he was tapped to rework it -- Sanchez became more than competent at the game, and beginning in 1991 he worked on tracks for <a href="spotify:artist:3aVoqlJOYx31lH1gibGDt3">Babyface</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:3fMbdgg4jU18AjLCKBhRSm">Michael Jackson</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:3MdG05syQeRYPPcClLaUGl">Diana Ross</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:4qwGe91Bz9K2T8jXTZ815W">Janet Jackson</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:0Xf8oDAJYd2D0k3NLI19OV">Chic</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:3lcbKPLl0ci2mKRdcP5Etf">M People</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:4mITrNyXdPhy8phBHPgAHk">Basia</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:5moJNCJeiNwuQAhDLJXULs">Incognito</a>, and <a href="spotify:artist:2sIx6SmAMw9IBySG3Uj0jf">Soul II Soul</a>. Later Sanchez productions -- a 1994 Latin dub-house burner named "Sumba Lumba" (as Tribal Confusion), the following year's hard-hitting Strictly 4 the Underground EP (as <a href="spotify:artist:3VHe42NAX9g8XNknSHKsza">Roger S</a>), and that same year's "Release Yo Self" (as Transatlantic Soul) -- cemented his status as one of <a href="spotify:search:label%3A%22Strictly+Rhythm%22">Strictly Rhythm</a>'s greatest assets and one of the world's leading mainstream producers. Though his own One Records collapsed in 1995, Sanchez formed another label named <a href="spotify:search:label%3A%22Narcotic%22">Narcotic</a> and signed up with the British club Hard Times to release his first full-length. The mix LP Hard Times: The Album featured <a href="spotify:artist:3FcrDo2TeEXNjKyafHeQR1">the S-Man</a> (with just two decks, a mixer, and a crate of records) proving his worth as a DJ in addition to his much-hyped studio work. He continued in the mix-LP vein, releasing volumes in two high-profile series (Mixmag Live!, United DJ's of America), and the <a href="spotify:search:label%3A%22Freeze%22">Freeze</a> collection Roger S. Mega Mix. In 1997, <a href="spotify:search:label%3A%22Narcotic+Records%22">Narcotic Records</a> released "Back" (as <a href="spotify:artist:2ClLO3kL3GFI6i2T3MjwsV">S-Men</a>), the fruits of the dance super-group formed by Sanchez, <a href="spotify:artist:31ZNfGVEEcI9CyicPVJQni">Junior Sanchez</a>, and <a href="spotify:artist:5He9yPmPv0Du9hASUlTUjr">DJ Sneak</a>. One year later, Sanchez released S-Man Classics, a two-disc collection including his best remixes backed with his best own productions. A few mix albums followed during the next three years, but a full production album, First Contact, finally dropped in 2001. Sanchez launched a new label in 2002 named <a href="spotify:search:label%3A%22Stealth%22">Stealth</a> -- home to his impressive rate of mixes, as well as re-releases and new productions from himself as well as other artists. The following year, he won a Grammy in the category of Best Remixed Recording for his remix of <a href="spotify:artist:0cQbJU1aAzvbEmTuljWLlF">No Doubt</a>'s "Hella Good." Release Yourself, his long-running terrestrial and online radio show, won an International Dance Music award for Best Podcast. The show celebrated a decade of broadcasts when the mix effort Release Yourself: 10th Anniversary Edition dropped in 2011, the same year that Sanchez joined with the <a href="spotify:artist:698hF4vcwHwPy8ltmXermq">Far East Movement</a> for the single "2gether." The singles "Troubleman" and "My Roots" arrived in 2013 along with the mix album Release Yourself 13. ~ John Bush, Rovi

STRFKR was started as a solo project by Joshua Hodges but quickly grew into a fully realized band with Keil Corcoran, Shawn Glassford, and Arian Jalali. Beginning with the mission of creating engaging, thought-provoking songs that people could dance to, the band released one full length and one EP before signing on with Polyvinyl in 2010. The band grew commercially and creatively with every new album, with 2011’s Reptilians, 2013’s Miracle Mile, and 2016’s Being No One, Going Nowhere all performing strongly enough to crack various Billboard charts, while multiple STRFKR songs were used in highly visible film, television, and streaming productions. The band started out in a time when a co-sign from blogs and music outlets of note were all but mandatory for new music to be heard and accepted. STRFKR bypassed the hype machine almost completely, focusing instead on making their shows more exciting and pushing their music to new places. In addition to a live album and several remix collections, the band’s extensive Vault Series has offered fans three volumes worth of unreleased demos and outtakes from every point in their evolution. On their latest full-length album, Parallel Realms, STRFKR embrace a more pop-forward approach while also hinting at experimentalism and the gentler textures on 2020’s heralded, Future Past Life.

This music industry legend, trailblazer, and currently one of the hottest DJ’s and producers on the underground electronic music scene...Green Velvet... came into existence more than 25 years ago. In 1993 Green Velvet launched Relief Records and since that time has been a constant presence in the industry. When this very eccentric, green Mohawk wearing Green Velvet emerged, he sent shock waves throughout the House and Techno music scenes. What was even more intriguing was his background. Born in the southern suburbs of Chicago, IL he has always been an active athlete and focused student determined to follow his dream of becoming a chemical engineer. While he excelled scholastically he was socially introverted, but always committed to finding ways to share his enthusiasm for living. Even today, more than 25 years later...it is difficult to go to any electronic music festival or set and not hear music from Green Velvet/Relief Records. Crowds everywhere sing along when notable hits like: Bigger than Prince, Flash, La La Land, Lazer Beams, Live Stream, Preacher Man, Shake and Pop, Sheeple, Suga, and Voicemail, are blasting across the airwaves. Part of the history of Green Velvet and Relief Records is all about the Love.... Love of the music...Love of the fans...Love of other artists. The history of great releases on the label and artists speak to this. <br>

Funk isn’t merely a genre. It’s a state of mind. Such is the opinion of GRiZ, the North Detroit-raised musician who spends sunny days and neon-tinted nights in pursuit of good vibrations. The multi-talented GRiZ has cultivated a party-poppin’ corner of bass music all his own defined by sax-blastin’ productions and soulful live shows. His reflective nature and fun-loving attitude are mirrored in his unmistakable electronic creations, each their own serotonin-fueled gateway to a bona fide good time. Now building beats in the heart of Denver, GRiZ has proven that his eclectic style is boundless. A musical chameleon, GRiZ is never afraid to flip the switch from upbeat future funk to low-tempo glitch-hop, dive into the heavier leaning side of bass music, and even from time to time quench his thirst with a taste of four-on-the-floor or disco. This shape-shifting maestro can do it all, painting each cut with his vibey hallmark sound print and leaving no question of their genesis.

New York-born, Los Angeles-based producer Seth Haley produces "slow-motion funk" -- warped, bass-heavy tracks that are sludgy but leavened with bright synthesizer melodies -- under the name Com Truise. Using an arsenal of analog and digital synths, his music blends new wave and cinematic influences with sophisticated downtempo beat patterns. Touring and releasing music frequently, he's found favor among fans of synthwave, chillwave, and indie electronic. Beginning with 2010's Cyanide Sisters, his increasingly wide-screen releases followed the saga of a "synthetic astronaut" named Com Truise. While the saga ended with 2017's Iteration, Haley continued using the moniker, returning with Persuasion System in 2019. Aside from his main releases, he's also drawn from his extensive archive of early productions for 2012's In Decay and 2020's In Decay, Too. 2023's Brokendate revisited an enduring favorite from his catalog, including a version featuring <a href="spotify:artist:5cj0lLjcoR7YOSnhnX0Po5">Doja Cat</a>. Com Truise's first release was the 2010 EP Cyanide Sisters, issued digitally through <a href="spotify:search:label%3A%22AMDISCS%22">AMDISCS</a>. <a href="spotify:search:label%3A%22Ghostly+International%22">Ghostly International</a> gave it a proper release in January 2011 and added four tracks. Two months later, <a href="spotify:search:label%3A%22Ghostly%22">Ghostly</a> issued Haley's Fairlight, a three-track digital release, which acted as a teaser for the full-length Galactic Melt. When the album came out in June 2011, Haley had remixed several artists, including <a href="spotify:artist:0KydPQPUUoTNhmiHKOg5Er">Neon Indian</a> ("Sleep Paralysist"), <a href="spotify:artist:6fLrPFLWLSCrp7gcTZXcKb">Twin Shadow</a> ("Castles in the Snow"), and <a href="spotify:artist:4tZwfgrHOc3mvqYlEYSvVi">Daft Punk</a> ("Encom, Pt. 2"). The download-only In Decay, a compilation of previously unreleased material, was released by <a href="spotify:search:label%3A%22Ghostly%22">Ghostly</a> in July 2012. A month later, he was part of Adult Swim's Singles Program with the download-only track "Chemical Legs." After a handful of remixes, including work for <a href="spotify:artist:0Guuvi7P0R6ZuX2DeL1m9M">Sally Shapiro</a> ("What Can I Do") and <a href="spotify:artist:06ZLemYyWDBiCoFhua3ytz">Bloodgroup</a> ("Mysteries Undone"), Wave 1, another colorful EP, was released on <a href="spotify:search:label%3A%22Ghostly%22">Ghostly</a> in February 2014. In Decay was given a vinyl issue later in the year. Com Truise returned in 2016 with an EP, Silicon Tare, and the following year he issued his second official album, Iteration. More refined than his previous works, the release was touted as the final chapter in the Com Truise saga. He remained active, however, and after switching up his workstation a bit, he resumed activity with Persuasion System in 2019. In Decay, Too, a set of early, non-album cuts from Haley's vaults, was released in 2020. Galactic Melt was reissued in 2022. One of its tracks, "Brokendate," had been sampled by <a href="spotify:artist:5cj0lLjcoR7YOSnhnX0Po5">Doja Cat</a> for a song called "4 Morant (Better Luck Next Time)," which became a viral hit on TikTok. Years after it first surfaced online, the song was given an official release on Com Truise's 2023 EP Brokendate, which also included the original track and other alternate versions. ~ Andy Kellman & Paul Simpson, Rovi

BIO
Known (and often derided) for his occupation as remixer to the stars during the 1990s, David Morales was one of the pioneers of house music in New York, an original head from the 1970s who weathered the change-over from disco to house and teamed up with Frankie Knuckles to form the leading early remix team, Def Mix. During the '90s the dance mainstream became aligned to many of his stylistic trademarks -- vocal breaks, uptempo piano riffs, plenty of strings -- resulting in clichés attributed to both of them. Also, Morales hasn't been involved in own-name record production as much as his few peers (Knuckles, Junior Vasquez, Todd Terry), but Morales found a dancefloor hit with the 1994 single "In De Ghetto." His beginnings were certainly not so refined; born in Brooklyn to Puerto Rican immigrants, Morales lived his early life in quite a rough section of the Brooklyn projects and was once shot while growing up. He dropped out of high school after ninth grade, and worked as a cook while supplementing his meager living with a job as a DJ (he had been collecting records since the age of 14). Turned on to disco at crucial clubs like the Loft and the Paradise Garage, Morales was soon working at the Garage as well after hooking up with For the Record, an early DJ management firms. His reputation spread during the late '70s and early '80s until he had DJed at every major club in the New York area. One of the first underground house hits in the New York area, "Do It Properly" (by 2 Puerto Ricans, a Black Man and a Dominican) was a production helmed by Morales, with Chep Nunez, Robert Clivilles and David Cole. Moving on to remix and production work during the '80s, he hooked up with another major house legend, Frankie Knuckles (through For the Record) to form the Def Mix Productions crew, and his Red Zone remixes became known as important sign-posts in the developing progressive house movement. Increasingly though, as dance music began appealing to a wider clientele, Morales' mixes attuned themselves more to the mainstream of dance and his material often garnered airplay on daytime radio as well as in nightclubs. After making his name in the pop charts with an early Def Mix for Seal, he began working with a role call of the era's major pop stars: Mariah Carey, Madonna, Michael Jackson, U2, Janet Jackson, Tina Turner and Björk, among them. A major-label contract with Mercury resulted in the 1994 single "In De Ghetto," a reasonable club hit, and Morales' debut album, The Program. He's also a top-flight DJ, known for pushing a sound much harder than that found on his own remixes. ~ John Bush

Colorado-based electronic DJ, producer, and musician Trevor Christensen emerged in the mid-2010s under the name Said the Sky. With his buoyant, dance-oriented style, he became a frequent collaborator with <a href="spotify:artist:45eNHdiiabvmbp4erw26rg">Illenium</a> while issuing his own popular EPs and singles. His 2018 full-length debut, Wide-Eyed, yielded the highly streamed hit "All I Got," and after additional singles, he returned with his second album, 2022's Sentiment. Born in Denver, Colorado in 1993, Christensen started out studying piano around age eight, and later played various instruments in his school band program. Also during high school, he became interested in electronic music after taking a digital audio production course. Subsequently, he began crafting his own songs and eventually honed his skills while attending Boston's Berklee College of Music. In 2014, having adopted the Said the Sky moniker, he signed with Phase Management and released his debut EP, Faith, which featured the singles "Disciple" with Melissa Hays, "Everything," and "Listen." More non-album singles also appeared 2015 including "Falling In," with <a href="spotify:artist:45eNHdiiabvmbp4erw26rg">Illenium</a> and <a href="spotify:artist:1USUeNBNJcg7Of34Ix74lM">Mimi Page</a>, "Run Away" featuring Car, "Darling" featuring <a href="spotify:artist:2HOMW1liAxI3URnEq95SMS">Missio</a>, and others. In 2016, he returned with his sophomore EP, Painted White. That same year he collaborated again with <a href="spotify:artist:45eNHdiiabvmbp4erw26rg">Illenium</a> and <a href="spotify:artist:6fcTRFpz0yH79qSKfof7lp">Seven Lions</a> on the single "Ares." He then joined <a href="spotify:artist:45eNHdiiabvmbp4erw26rg">Illenium</a> on tour, and appeared on the DJ's 2017 single "Where'd You Go." Also in 2017, he paired with <a href="spotify:artist:320LkiSxenwJtoxQ9SZ1eV">Kwesi</a> for the track "All I Got." Said the Sky's debut full-length, Wide-Eyed, was released by the <a href="spotify:search:label%3A%22Seeking+Blue%22">Seeking Blue</a> label in July 2018. It featured guests like <a href="spotify:artist:77BznF1Dr1k5KyEZ6Nn3jB">Vancouver Sleep Clinic</a> and <a href="spotify:artist:0JWzjpVD9Y6AJKIEg1JkYj">Jack Newsome</a>, among others. Christensen kept busy over the next few years collaborating with Slander and <a href="spotify:artist:5CtI0OHj5x6rHQDqpM4JPy">JT Roach</a> on 2019's "Potions" and again joining <a href="spotify:artist:45eNHdiiabvmbp4erw26rg">Illenium</a> on the 2020 hit "Good Things Fall Apart vs. Sad Songs." After a few more singles, including 2021's "Treading Water" and "Go on Then, Love," he delivered his sophomore album, Sentiment, in February 2022. ~ Matt Collar, Rovi

Jauz is Sam Vogel, a Los Angeles-based EDM producer whose motto "music has no boundaries" is matched by his eclectic range of styles. He's likely to produce chill trap as well as future garage, occasionally tipping into the more aggressive side of dubstep. His remixes add a bass-heavy contemporary club edge to everything from '80s electro to '90s hip-hop, as well as post-millennial pop. With his singles and collaborations during the mid-2010s, he became known as one of the pioneers of bass house, and his work later in the decade helped kick off the speed house subgenre. His ambitious, cinematic 2018 full-length The Wise and the Wicked touches on everything from bassline to electropop, while 2023's Rise of the Wise channels the producer's house influences while remaining fresh and futuristic. Vogel first began uploading remixes in 2013, and it wasn't long before his tracks caught the attention of <a href="spotify:artist:5fMUXHkw8R8eOP2RNVYEZX">Diplo</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:5he5w2lnU9x7JFhnwcekXX">Skrillex</a>, and <a href="spotify:artist:7u160I5qtBYZTQMLEIJmyz">Borgore</a>. Vogel's 2014 single "Feel the Volume" was released by <a href="spotify:search:label%3A%22Mad+Decent%22">Mad Decent</a>, and his <a href="spotify:artist:5he5w2lnU9x7JFhnwcekXX">Skrillex</a> collaboration "Squad Out!" was released in 2015 as part of <a href="spotify:search:label%3A%22Adult+Swim%22">Adult Swim</a>'s free singles program. He also released tracks with <a href="spotify:artist:0lLY20XpZ9yDobkbHI7u1y">Pegboard Nerds</a> on Canadian label <a href="spotify:search:label%3A%22Monstercat%22">Monstercat</a>, as well as several singles on <a href="spotify:search:label%3A%22Spinnin%27+Records%22">Spinnin' Records</a>, including collaborations with <a href="spotify:artist:4dvZ0abeUaiHm7Fu9Gj0PQ">Eptic</a> and <a href="spotify:artist:548YUkLaLzti0BLqaWpn1W">Ephwurd</a>. While he's created several unofficial remixes of major pop hits, he's also released official remixes of tracks by <a href="spotify:artist:4zxvC7CRGvggq9EWXOpwAo">Kiesza</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:5l9wiTZVfqQTfMDOt0HtwC">Tiga</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:2DuJi13MWHjRHrqRUwk8vH">Knife Party</a>, and others. In April 2018, Jauz teamed up with French producer <a href="spotify:artist:540vIaP2JwjQb9dm3aArA4">DJ Snake</a> for the single "Gassed Up." A major festival hit, it was regarded as the track that launched the style known as speed house. It was included on The Wise and the Wicked, a 23-track, four-chapter full-length which also featured collaborations with <a href="spotify:artist:0Cd6nHYwecCNM1sVEXKlYr">Krewella</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:2yT7X3Gg2S51DHz67FAYL6">SNAILS</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:6Vh6UDWfu9PUSXSzAaB3CW">Example</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:2gNmFyBanPG1slh2pHnCtU">Holy Goof</a>, and many others. In 2019, Jauz released heavily streamed remixes of <a href="spotify:artist:3KwmxIhSe9UTSEF37kwngR">SHAED</a>'s "Trampoline" and <a href="spotify:artist:7cTXfwpe9peK0UE1bZyIWZ">Pinkfong</a>'s viral hit "Baby Shark." He also released the house flashback "Don't Leave Me" and collaborations with the likes of <a href="spotify:artist:67qogtRNI0GjUr8PlaG6Zh">Zeds Dead</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:0y42IQBDFigO5mmEd1bGQG">i_o</a>, and <a href="spotify:artist:3cMInYqk6yzf37zo8iznoz">DNMO</a>. The five-song EP Dangerous Waters appeared in 2020, with <a href="spotify:artist:5oiSxivTCIoOk5UlMSwzWM">TYNAN</a> and Jump System making guest appearances. "Oceans & Galaxies," an anthemic collaboration with singer <a href="spotify:artist:1sKIizVYeHkGy7Tjmn9QRj">HALIENE</a>, became a streaming hit in 2021. The more aggressive "Sick" (with Frank Zummo and We Are Pigs) and "Forever" (with Micah Martin) followed, as well as the more club-friendly "Make It Good." Jauz's 2022 EP Block Party included songs with <a href="spotify:artist:1uU7g3DNSbsu0QjSEqZtEd">Masked Wolf</a> and <a href="spotify:artist:1YYJxpOXYk1z1WtqdeLMkn">Habstrakt</a>. He began 2023 with "S.O.S," a dubstep track with <a href="spotify:artist:67qogtRNI0GjUr8PlaG6Zh">Zeds Dead</a> and <a href="spotify:artist:0lYzZ91QzokaPrRK1vq6tW">Nicole Millar</a>. Jauz focused on melodic, futuristic house with his 2023 full-length Rise of the Wise, which included a re-appearance of his earlier single "Don't Leave Me." ~ Paul Simpson

As Tycho, Scott Hansen blends swirling melodies into vaguely triumphant arcs that crisscross between stuttering beats and vocal samples, creating rolling sonic landscapes that extend into the horizon. The San Francisco based Hansen began releasing music in the early 2000’s with The Science of Patterns EP. His first full-length, Sunrise Projector, came out in 2004, and the critical acclaim continued in 2006 with the release of Past Is Prologue. In 2011 with the addition of collaborator and guitarist Zac Brown, Hansen’s meticulous process saw the release of Dive, the first record in a trilogy that was followed by Awake in 2014 and the GRAMMY-Nominated Epoch in 2016, two albums that featured Rory O’Connor on drums. Hansen expanded the scope of his project with the addition of vocalist Saint Sinner on 2019’s Weather, Tycho’s second GRAMMY nomination for Best Dance/Electronic Album. That release was quickly followed by its instrumental companion record Simulcast, a collaboration with alt-R&B artist rum.gold and the Weather Remixes project all in 2020. In addition to his original works, Tycho has remixed Odesza & Leon Bridges, Maggie Rogers, Spoon, The Knocks & Muna, Little Dragon, Thievery Corporation and Death Cab For Cutie. Over the course of the last fifteen years, Tycho has evolved from a singular to a plural, and from an electronic, ambient experiment to a multi-dimensional audio visual live experience that bring the compositions to life.

Krewella is the boundless electronic duo comprised of sisters Jahan and Yasmine Yousaf. Born in Houston to a Pakistani father and German-Lithuanian-American mother, their multicultural background influences their art. Always experimental, they’ve carved out their own niche in EDM. Krewella began as high schoolers in 2007 and broke into the scene in 2012 with their chart-topping self-released debut EP, Play Hard. They kept the momentum going in 2013 with their massive debut album, Get Wet, and the platinum-selling hit single “Alive.” In 2017—a year after making Forbes' 30 Under 30 list—Krewella chose independence and launched their own Mixed Kids Records label with their bold New World Pt. 1 EP. Their January 2020 album, zer0, is a sonic "ode to the blank slate," as Jahan and Yasmine put it, and was hailed by Billboard as a "transformative body of work." Their adventurous third album, The Body Never Lies, is out March 4, 2022 on Mixed Kids Records. Created from an intimate, internal space over the last year, the LP explores topics of impermanence, the human experience, and their relationship to the world around them as half-Pakistani women in a male governed society. Their energy and creativity propels their live performances and DJ sets alike. They've played Coachella, Lollapalooza, EDC, Ultra, iHeartRadio Music Festival, Tomorrowland, Storm (China), Sunburn (India), Coke Studios in Pakistan, and more, in addition to their own headlining tours and Las Vegas residencies.

BIO
American DJ, musician, and producer Morgan Page established himself in the electronic community throughout the mid-2000s, releasing a series of house singles for a wide variety of labels while remixing tracks for artists like Terry Lee Brown, Jr. and Ashlee Simpson. He became more widely known after his 2009 collaboration with folksinger Lissie, "The Longest Road," earned him his first Grammy nomination. Subsequent albums like 2012's In the Air and 2015's DC to Light continued to cement Page's reputation, leading to major festival appearances around the world, residencies in Las Vegas, and a long-running Sirius XM weekly radio show. A Vermont native, Page began making electronic music at the age of 12. After gaining the attention of jockeys at local free-form radio stations, Page -- prior to graduating from high school -- began DJ'ing himself on the University of Vermont's station. There, his horizons and knowledge about dance music broadened significantly, especially when it came to house. After taking up an internship at the Plastic City label, Page initiated a steady release schedule that saw a handful of 12" singles scattered each year from 2000 through 2006. In addition to appearing on labels like Nordic Trax, Fiji, Bedrock, Saw, LowDown, and Force Tracks, Page remixed singles for Alanis Morissette and Men, Women & Children. Nettwerk took note and signed Page for the release of 2008's Elevate, a collection of remixes and original songs. The following year he collaborated with folksinger Lissie on the single "The Longest Road," which was nominated for a Grammy Award. As his reputation grew with 2010's Believe and a second Grammy nomination for his remix of Nadia Ali's "Fantasy," he continued to tour, making festival appearances at Coachella and Electric Zoo and headlining A-list clubs. His fourth album, In the Air, arrived in 2012, and the title track reached number one on Billboard's Hot Dance Airplay chart. He held down a three-year residency at The Wynn in Las Vegas, then moved to Light at Mandalay Bay just prior to the release of his fifth album, 2015's DC to Light, which featured guest appearances from Angela McCluskey and Lissie. Over the next three years, Page returned his focus to releasing singles, collaborating again with Lissie on 2016's "Don't Give Up," with Steve James on the 2017 hit "Candles," and with Jayceeoh and Kaleena Zanders on 2018's "Lost Dreams." The Born to Fly EP and the solo single "Let You Go" also saw release in 2018. ~ Andy Kellman & Timothy Monger

Tritonal are a successful EDM duo from Austin, Texas, consisting of producers/DJs Chad Cisneros and David Reed. Active since 2008, the duo have scored numerous charting hits and performed at several major festivals, in addition to hosting two popular radio programs and co-owning the Enhanced Recordings label. Initially making progressive trance tracks, the duo soon began working extensively with guest vocalists; their 2011 debut album, Piercing the Quiet, featured regular early collaborators such as Cristina Soto and Jeza. Tritonal switched to a more accessible electro-house sound in 2013, and reached Billboard's Dance charts with singles like that year's "Now or Never" (featuring Phoebe Ryan) and "Until You Were Gone," their 2016 collaboration with the Chainsmokers. The duo formed in 2008 and immediately began releasing progressive tracks, often in collaboration with vocalist Cristina Soto, that appeared on labels such as Anjunabeats, Fraction Records, and Coldharbour Recordings. Their euphoric anthems and ecstatic live performances quickly made an impact on the worldwide dance music scene, and by 2009 they had remixed tracks by major artists such as Ferry Corsten and Ronski Speed. The duo's first mix CD, Enhanced Sessions, Vol. 2 (with a second disc mixed by Ferry Tayle), arrived on Enhanced Recordings in July 2010. During the same year, Tritonal established a digital imprint called Air Up There Recordings, and launched a weekly radio show also titled Air Up There. Tritonal's debut album of original productions, Piercing the Quiet, appeared on the label in 2011, and eight of the album's songs charted in the Top 20 of online dance music retailer Beatport's trance charts. The duo remixed tracks by more kingpins such as Kyau & Albert, Markus Schulz, and Cosmic Gate, and Piercing the Quiet Remixed emerged in 2012. They began to appear on polls such as DJ Mag's Top 100 DJs of 2012. Tritonal ended 2012 with the 100th and final edition of Air Up There, broadcast live from a sold-out gig at Emo's in Austin, but they began 2013 with a new series called Tritonia. The duo spent much of 2013 touring, including slots at major EDM festivals such as Ultra Music Festival, Electric Zoo, and Electric Daisy Carnival. Also in 2013, they joined Will Holland as co-owners of Enhanced Recordings, and released the first two volumes of the Metamorphic EP series on the label. The EPs signaled the expansion of the duo's sound to include electro-house and downtempo. Tritonal ended 2013 with another mix CD, Tritonia Chapter 001. Metamorphic III was released in 2014, as were Tritonal remixes for tracks by Zedd, Hardwell, and Cash Cash. Tritonal collaborated with Cash Cash the following year, producing a big club hit called "Untouchable." They also produced hit tracks with the Chainsmokers and Juventa, and remixed pop star Adam Lambert. Tritonia Chapter 002 appeared in 2015 and a Sirius XM cable radio show called Tritonia began airing once a week. The year 2016 saw collaborations and remixes for Angel Taylor, Ellie Goulding, and Gareth Emery, as well as a remix LP called Blackout and a new LP called Painting with Dreams. The duo returned the following year with several more well-received singles, including "Strangers," "Wild Kind" with Varpu, and "Good Thing" featuring Laurell. 2018 brought a host of new singles and collaborations including "Out of My Mind," "U Found Me," "Calabasas" featuring Sj and Tima Dee, and "Just Like You" featuring Apek. Several 2019 singles, including "Hard Pass" and "Real," led up to the release of Tritonal's third full-length, U & Me. ~ Paul Simpson

He studied classical piano at a music school and began a journey which lead him into a love affair with house and techno. He organized House parties playing fresh underground sounds to a hugely appreciative domestic audience. He decided to move to London a few years ago, having started to tire of the music and the scene. He then saw Rihanna at a festival and experienced his pop epiphany and has never looked back since. Rekindling his love with pop music that had been the basis of his own childhood listening.

Redfoo may be best known as one half of the duo <a href="spotify:artist:3sgFRtyBnxXD5ESfmbK4dl">LMFAO</a>, but his music career started long before he began party-rocking with nephew <a href="spotify:artist:1h3Va3QBqMcvGWvNy7TLAg">Sky Blu</a>. Born in Los Angeles, Stefan Kendal Gordy -- the youngest son of <a href="spotify:search:label%3A%22Motown%22">Motown</a> founder <a href="spotify:artist:4xRLKAf96K6YdGDWjY6ra8">Berry Gordy, Jr.</a> -- started his career by working with rappers in the L.A. area in the late '90s, including <a href="spotify:artist:1yxSLGMDHlW21z4YXirZDS">the Black Eyed Peas</a>. He featured on the appropriately titled "Duet" from <a href="spotify:artist:1yxSLGMDHlW21z4YXirZDS">BEP</a>'s debut album, which would prove fortuitous almost half a decade later. In 2006, after forming <a href="spotify:artist:3sgFRtyBnxXD5ESfmbK4dl">LMFAO</a>, Redfoo and <a href="spotify:artist:1h3Va3QBqMcvGWvNy7TLAg">Sky Blu</a> were introduced to Jimmy Iovine at <a href="spotify:search:label%3A%22Interscope+Records%22">Interscope Records</a> by head <a href="spotify:artist:1yxSLGMDHlW21z4YXirZDS">Pea</a> <a href="spotify:artist:085pc2PYOi8bGKj0PNjekA">will.i.am</a> and were immediately signed. Their debut album, Party Rock, was released in 2009, and a year later they were featured on <a href="spotify:artist:1Cs0zKBU1kc0i8ypK3B9ai">David Guetta</a>'s remix of "Gettin' Over You" with another <a href="spotify:artist:1yxSLGMDHlW21z4YXirZDS">Black Eyed Pea</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:3r17AfJCCUqC9Lf0OAc73G">Fergie</a>. Buoyed by their growing popularity, they released their second album, Sorry for Party Rocking, which spawned a string of hit songs and high-profile tour slots. They even performed at the Super Bowl with <a href="spotify:artist:6tbjWDEIzxoDsBA1FuhfPW">Madonna</a>. In 2012, the duo announced their hiatus and Redfoo released his first solo single, "Bring Out the Bottles." He joined the judge's table on the Australian X Factor series and went on to release a steady string of singles, including the Australian hit "Let's Get Ridiculous." The high-energy big-beat electro-pop songs continued to roll out through 2015, when he announced his first proper solo LP, Party Rock Mansion. Released in early 2016, Party Rock Mansion included first single "Lights Out," a guest feature from <a href="spotify:artist:7guDJrEfX3qb6FEbdPA5qi">Stevie Wonder</a> on "Where the Sun Goes," and "Juicy Wiggle," which was included on the soundtrack to the <a href="spotify:artist:1SCWcYnoEh1978ycTDhZoW">Alvin & the Chipmunks</a> movie Road Chip. ~ Neil Z. Breathe Carolina is the LA-based duo behind hits like “Too Good”, “Blackout”, “Rhythm Is A Dancer”, and “Sweet Dreams”. The pair closed out 2019 with their highly anticipated fifth album, DEADTHEALBUM (Big Beat/Spinnin’), which hit #2 on Apple Dance charts and has amassed over 17M+ streams to date. DEADTHEALBUM lends itself to be a hybrid of their nostalgic emo roots and their current-day production, fusing club-friendly records with their own vocals. Breathe kicked off 2020 by bringing new life to the album release with the help of a stacked line-up of talented producers for remix album DEADTHEREMIXES. The two were not shy about releasing even more music this year, putting out massive singles “IF U” with Conor Maynard & Robert Falcon, "Promises" with Reigns & Dropgun, “That’s My Music”, and “Higher” with Jordan Jay. They showed their remixing chops on official releases from Zedd, ILLENIUM, Ava Max, and Kelsey Coleman. Fans can expect plenty more on the way from Breathe Carolina in 2021.

BIO
A long-standing and influential figure in California's electronic music community, DJ, producer, and remixer Bassnectar delivers a heavy, physical blend of aggressive electronic, embracing elements of extreme bass, dubstep, breakbeat, and other IDM styles, as well as shifting tempos and contrasting dynamics that go from gentle to bruising and back during the course of a set. Known for high-energy live shows, he debuted in the early 2000s and made his first appearance on the U.S. charts in 2009 with his fifth album, Cozza Frenzy. From there, a string of dance chart-topping albums followed, including 2014's Noise vs. Beauty, his first number one. Additionally, Bassnectar has a strong activist streak, which he uses to promote social and political causes, as well as to foster a sense of community. After taking a hiatus, he returned in 2023 with The Golden Rule. Born Lorin Ashton in Santa Cruz in 1978, he was raised in a bohemian environment and claims to have been introduced to the power of bass by the rumbling of a minor earthquake he experienced as a child. As a teenager, he was exposed to world music by an uncle who brought him a set of hand drums and recordings of African and Latin music; at the same time, the youngster had become a serious thrash metal fan, and was also interested in grunge (particularly <a href="spotify:artist:6olE6TJLqED3rqDCT0FyPh">Nirvana</a>) and hardcore rap (especially <a href="spotify:artist:4EnEZVjo3w1cwcQYePccay">N.W.A</a>). Ashton taught himself to play guitar and formed an extreme metal band, becoming a fixture on the local grindcore scene until he attended his first rave in the fall of 1995. He was immediately won over by the sense of community in the rave scene as well as the music, and he began attending raves as often as he could, as well as helping to organize and promote events. In 1996, Ashton started learning how to DJ, and coupled with his earlier experience in percussion, he recorded four-track demos with his band and studied electronic music at the University of California in Santa Cruz, soon mastering the basics of spinning and producing dance music. He started producing recordings for other acts in his spare time, and in 2001 he was invited to remix a track by Michael Franti & Spearhead for a single. Later that same year, the first Bassnectar album, Freakbeat for the Beatfreaks, was released; Ashton produced and released on his own label, <a href="spotify:search:label%3A%22Amorphous+Music%22">Amorphous Music</a>. While his first few albums earned him a buzz on the indie electronic scene, the fourth Bassnectar album, 2004's Diverse Systems of Throb, expanded his audience and influence. After that, he began issuing a steady stream of albums, singles, and podcasts in which he collaborated with artists including <a href="spotify:artist:2gINJ8xw86xawPyGvx1bla">KRS-One</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:0X2BH1fck6amBIoJhDVmmJ">Ellie Goulding</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:2DS5RPK5A2GQTucYlgsQdE">Perry Farrell</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:01QTIT5P1pFP3QnnFSdsJf">Lupe Fiasco</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:0S05AeePINj4CeTVMfysIu">Rye Rye</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:0fDF0jjmdouCIeWhNnblwV">Buckethead</a>, and <a href="spotify:artist:2SVw939fwuqSobLjF8u78b">Gogol Bordello</a>, as well as producers <a href="spotify:artist:5fMUXHkw8R8eOP2RNVYEZX">Diplo</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:64MoFdq8ORI3V98AR5SPWL">BT</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:4vwzEW1kPK1BlgSBGrRyqZ">DJ Vadim</a>, and <a href="spotify:artist:1O3ZOjqFLEnbpZexcRjocn">Rjd2</a>. Divergent Spectrum, released in 2011, was his first album to reach the Billboard charts. One year later, Vava Voom broke into the Top 40, and his 2014 LP Noise vs. Beauty reached number 21. Bassnectar also became a popular live attraction, spinning up to 150 nights a year at venues ranging from clubs and warehouses to festivals such as Coachella, Bonnaroo, and Lollapalooza. He staged his first Bass Center Festival in 2010, and the events (roughly twice a year) grew in size and stature until Bass Center 8 filled Madison Square Garden in October 2014. Into the Sun was released in 2015, with the bonus-track CD Mixtape 13 added to the album's limited-edition version. The LP Unlimited followed in 2016 with <a href="spotify:artist:0S05AeePINj4CeTVMfysIu">Rye Rye</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:3LLs28LJVlXAjWc8UDkcQZ">Zion I</a>, and <a href="spotify:artist:3a9qv6NLHnsVxJUtKOMHvD">the Glitch Mob</a> as guests. The following year saw Ashton issue Reflective, a six-track EP with collaborators Dorfex Bos and G Jones. A sequel, Reflective, Pt. 2, was also released that year. Before the arrival of Reflective, Pt. 3, he joined rappers <a href="spotify:artist:2ht3wxeT69CzyKFChNnNAB">Big Boi</a> and <a href="spotify:artist:2N4EYkIlG1kv25g6Wv8LGI">Killer Mike</a> on <a href="spotify:artist:74NBPbyyftqJ4SpDZ4c1Ed">Tom Morello</a>'s 2018 single "Rabbit's Revenge." Reflective, Pt. 4 appeared in 2019 and included the track "Dive" featuring <a href="spotify:artist:3Q6DsbDen5sd9gmKinCmso">RD</a>. Early 2020 saw the release of the single "Nice & Easy" featuring <a href="spotify:artist:1TH9nACRwmZ8KnvIKxXTYh">Rodney P</a> ahead of the arrival of the full-length All Colors, which was issued later that June. After stepping away from music for a three-year hiatus, Bassnectar resumed work in 2023 with another full-length, The Golden Rule. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

Los Angeles-based EDM duo Lost Kings bring together woozy grooves, house influences, and more mainstream electronic styles to create a sound that has both the familiarity of pop and a distinctive party-starting energy. After first gaining some attention for their remixes of tracks by well-known artists like <a href="spotify:artist:26VFTg2z8YR0cCuwLzESi2">Halsey</a> and <a href="spotify:artist:53XhwfbYqKCa1cC15pYq2q">Imagine Dragons</a>, Lost Kings signed to <a href="spotify:search:label%3A%22RCA%22">RCA</a> subsidiary label <a href="spotify:search:label%3A%22Disruptor+Records%22">Disruptor Records</a> and began releasing original material on a series of EPs that included 2019's Lost Angeles and 2021's It's Not You, It's Me. From there, they released singles such as 2024's Kheela-featuring "Here for You." DJs Robert Abisi and Nick Shanholtz bonded over a love of electronic music culture and their shared status as recent transplants to L.A. from the East Coast. In 2014, the two began making tracks together as Lost Kings, focusing prominently on remixes of other artists over original compositions. The act almost immediately drew major attention for unofficial remixes of tracks by artists such as <a href="spotify:artist:6nS5roXSAGhTGr34W6n7Et">Disclosure</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:0C0XlULifJtAgn6ZNCW2eu">the Killers</a>, and <a href="spotify:artist:1bpzpALZwOoKXzwMg2i8WB">Dirty South</a>, gaining enough momentum to sign a management deal. In 2015, they released The Bad EP, followed the next year by companion piece The Good EP. Amid constant touring and ever-growing popularity, Lost Kings began receiving commissions for official remixes for bigger names. The year 2015 saw them reworking <a href="spotify:artist:1vSN1fsvrzpbttOYGsliDr">Tori Kelly</a>'s hit "Should've Been Us," and they released an official remix for <a href="spotify:artist:5pKCCKE2ajJHZ9KAiaK11H">Rihanna</a>'s "Work" single in 2016. In addition to wildly successful remix work, Lost Kings also made it to the charts with their own compositions, including "Phone Down" featuring <a href="spotify:artist:1oKdM70mJD8VvDOTKeS8t1">Emily Warren</a> and early 2017's "Quit You" with <a href="spotify:artist:0EBAFAnNmFGyp3oTpOioO1">Tinashé</a>. They followed with "Look at Us Now" featuring Ally Brooke and <a href="spotify:artist:5dHt1vcEm9qb8fCyLcB3HL">A$AP Ferg</a>, and "First Love" with <a href="spotify:artist:74KM79TiuVKeVCqs8QtB0B">Sabrina Carpenter</a>. 2018 saw the releases of the singles "When We Were Young" featuring <a href="spotify:artist:2fsk4VlJdNF6G8cCMDrrzB">Norma Jean Martine</a> and "Drunk as Hell" featuring <a href="spotify:artist:4Q6zYbQ2MrKiEWTGB3yrPv">Jesper Jenset</a>, both of which appeared on the Paper Crowns EP in early 2019. Also that year, they issued a second EP, Lost Angeles. More stand-alone tracks arrived in 2020, including "Hurt" featuring <a href="spotify:artist:7aWpPjjgItUnXljFxYYKZI">DeathByRomy</a>, "Oops (I'm Sorry)" with <a href="spotify:artist:7c0XG5cIJTrrAgEC3ULPiq">Ty Dolla $ign</a> and <a href="spotify:artist:0JOxt5QOwq0czoJxvSc5hS">Gashi</a>, and "Mountains" featuring Masn. The 2021 EP It's Not You, It's Me saw the Kings expanding their style to include traces of emo-pop melody and songs built on guitar loops. The EP included guest features from <a href="spotify:artist:3u2R8st1bb6zfBqNWceRXG">MOD SUN</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:7c0XG5cIJTrrAgEC3ULPiq">Ty Dolla $ign</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:6Z8vLeI1ZMj2kzTNWVOBXr">Jordan Shaw</a>, and others. In 2022, the group released the song "Under the Influence," again with guest contributions from <a href="spotify:artist:6Z8vLeI1ZMj2kzTNWVOBXr">Jordan Shaw</a>. Subsequent singles followed, including "Wonderlust" and the <a href="spotify:artist:58eJhHRICp87T2IFcP0bYh">Slush Puppy</a> collaboration "I Do" that same year, 2023's "Dreams" featuring <a href="spotify:artist:0Ey8TMIVvT6OSYiblEuyMh">Frawley</a>, and in 2024, "Remind Me" with <a href="spotify:artist:0gNDtB2LFXVzalP35MXaql">Hilda</a> and "Here for You" with Kheela. ~ Fred Thomas, Rovi

You don’t know Jai Wolf like you think you do. After hundreds of millions of streams on indie-dance anthems like “Indian Summer” and “Starlight,” blockbuster festival sets from Indio to India, and co-signs from the likes of Skrillex and ODESZA, it’s clear from the opening notes of Jai Wolf’s long-awaited debut album The Cure to Loneliness that he sees the expectations around his name as an opportunity to challenge convention. The Cure to Loneliness finds Jai Wolf completing his evolution from upstart bedroom remixer to future bass DJ to builder of lush musical worlds. While still very much dancefloor-focused, some tracks on the LP conjure the angular riffage of The Strokes and Phoenix, weave melodies through the sugary happysad of M83 and CHVRCHES, or build up walls of sound like Explosions in the Sky—all while maintaining the melodious polish and evocative groove to which fans have grown so close. “In my heart, this album is me,” says Jai Wolf. “From the sounds to the lyrics, it’s everything that I’ve always wanted to do.” Taking a different approach to many of his contemporaries under the wing of indie darling label Mom+Pop (Courtney Barnett, Flume, Jagwar Ma, Alina Baraz), Jai Wolf largely eschewed singles over the course of two years to patiently craft The Cure to Loneliness. The result is a thoughtfully framed, confidently expressed musical vision that will tug at heartstrings in 2019 and long beyond. The Cure to Loneliness available everywhere April 5th

3LAU’S music career started small at college fraternity parties but he quickly rose to fame, performing at sold-out shows around the world and amassing over 1 billion music streams. Outside of the studio, 3LAU is a must-see live performer, and has appeared at major music festivals such as EDC Vegas / Korea / Orlando, Ultra, Electric Zoo, Lollapalooza, and Life Is Beautiful. An early crypto adopter, Justin has been an open advocate for building the investable layer of music on blockchains since 2017. He has seen great success tokenizing his music; to date, he is the #1 musician in the world for NFT sales. After those experiments and navigating complex copyright laws and industry inequities, Justin felt moved to start Royal. By broadening access to music ownership, Royal is tackling the music industry’s decades-old value chain problem - something Justin experienced first-hand - and offering artists a way to make money off of what they create while maintaining ownership and control. Royal officially launched in January of 2022 with releases from artists including NAS, Diplo, and the Chainsmokers.
