BIO

French electronic music producer David Guetta rose to prominence atop the sparkling wave of DJs who combined Daft Punk's sleek house music with a pinch of electroclash punch at the start of the 21st century. Achieving international crossover success during the late-2000s EDM boom with chart-toppers One Love and Nothing But the Beat, his house anthems became fixtures on the dance charts into the 2010s, often featuring famous names from the worlds of pop and rap, including frequent collaborators Nicki Minaj, Sam Martin, Sia, Chris Willis, Rihanna, Kelly Rowland, and Afrojack. Along with the latter two artists, Guetta also won a pair of Grammy Awards in 2011. A native of Paris, the artist born Pierre David Guetta had been DJing around France playing popular tunes, but his brain was particularly rewired in 1987 when he heard a Farley Jackmaster Funk track on French radio. He taped the track, brought a copy to a gig, and promptly cleared the floor with it during one of his own sets. Things loosened up a year later when acid house came to France and Guetta successfully promoted his own club nights. It was during one of those nights in 1992 that he met Robert Owens, a Chicago-based house legend who was touring Europe at the time. Guetta played Owens some of his own tracks, and Owens picked one he liked enough to sing over. The result was "Up and Away," a minor hit that lurked in garage DJ crates for the next four years. Guetta's carefree attitude -- that he only produces good music while he's having casual fun -- kept the DJ from releasing anything until 2001's "Just a Little More Love." The track featured American gospel singer Chris Willis, who'd met Guetta while on vacation in France. Another slow-burner, "Just a Little More Love," kept popping up in sets for the next two years, first in an electro version and later in a pumped-up Wally Lopez remix. During this time, Guetta snuck out a bootleg remix of David Bowie's "Heroes," retitled "Just for One Day." Bowie gave the go-ahead to release the track officially, and Guetta soon had a massive hit on his hands. Guetta featured the liberated boot on his first mix CD, Fuck Me I'm Famous, named after Guetta's successful Ibiza-based party. The fun-loving slacker DJ finally got around to releasing a collection of his own productions in 2004, Just a Little More Love on Astralwerks. Guetta Blaster arrived that same year, followed by Poplife in 2007. Chris Willis sang lead vocals on the latter album, which spun off multiple dance singles in multiple countries. Fuck Me I'm Famous: International, Vol. 2 was then released in July 2008, giving listeners a taste of the stylish sounds that orchestrated Guetta's summer club events in Ibiza. A year later, he released One Love, a platinum-selling album featuring the singles "When Love Takes Over" with Kelly Rowland, "Sexy Bitch" with Akon, and "Gettin' Over" with Chris Willis. In 2010, Guetta received five nominations at the 52nd Grammy Awards, two of them related to the One Love album and the other three for his work on the Black Eyed Peas' massive worldwide hit "I Gotta Feeling." That same year, One Love was reissued as One More Love, featuring a bonus disc of remixes and new tracks. A superstar guest list -- featuring Akon, Lil Wayne, Flo Rida, Usher, Chris Brown, and others -- would figure into his 2011 release Nothing But the Beat, but this time the DJ's songwriting was inspired by dramatic rock bands like Coldplay. In 2014, Guetta released three singles on his own Jack Back label, all of which were rounded up on that year's Lovers on the Sun EP. Later that year, Guetta released his sixth studio album, Listen. Perhaps as a reaction to inadvertently finding himself a sort of unofficial godfather to the burgeoning EDM movement, the record saw him branching out of his electro-house comfort zone, experimenting with elements of hip-hop, alternative rock, R&B, and acoustic instrumentation, and featuring guest artists as diverse as Nicki Minaj, Emeli Sandé, Sia, the Script, and Ladysmith Black Mambazo. In 2015, the LP was reissued as Listen Again with new songs and remixes added to the track list, including "Bang My Head" featuring Fetty Wap and Sia. Over the next few years, Guetta issued a continuous stream of singles. In 2016, notable releases included the official UEFA Euro anthem "This One's for You" featuring Zara Larsson, which topped the charts in France, Germany, and Switzerland; "Shed a Light" with Robin Schulz and Cheat Codes; and "No Worries" with Disciples. The following year, Guetta issued a handful of additional collaborations with Nicki Minaj and Lil Wayne ("Light My Body Up"), Afrojack ("Another Life"), Justin Bieber (the platinum "2U"), Kiiara ("Complicated"), and Charli XCX and French Montana ("Dirty Sexy Money"). He kicked off 2018 with a pair of Sia collaborations (a remix of "Helium" and "Flames"), while also scoring another Top Ten hit for "Mad Love" with Sean Paul and Becky G. His seventh set, the aptly titled 7, arrived in September. In addition to including a some of his previously released singles -- "2U" and "Flames" among them -- Guetta also recruited Anne-Marie, Bebe Rexha, J Balvin, Jason Derulo, Martin Garrix, Jess Glynne, Steve Aoki, Lil Uzi Vert, G-Eazy, and many more for the effort. A bonus second disc of material was also bundled with 7, collecting a dozen tracks recorded as his alter ego Jack Back. Early 2019 saw Guetta team up with Spanish DJ Tom Staar for the single "This Ain't Techno." An EP, New Rave, arrived in July 2020 and included the track "Kill Me Slow," featuring Morten. ~ Neil Z. Even as they evolved from French house pioneers in the '90s to dance tastemakers in the 2000s to mainstream heroes in the 2010s, Daft Punk remained one of dance music's most influential and iconic acts. The combined talents of Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter, the Parisian duo quickly won acclaim for their unique blend of first-wave acid house and techno with pop, indie rock, and hip-hop. One of the pair's first projects together was Darling, an instrumental indie cover band; their current recording name derives from a review in U.K. music weekly Melody Maker of a compilation tape Darling were featured on, released by Krautrock revivalists Stereolab (their lo-fi D.I.Y. cover of a Beach Boys song was derided as "daft punk"). Subsequently ditching the almost inevitable creative cul-de-sac of rock for the more appealing rush of the dancefloor, the pair released their debut single, "The New Wave," in 1993 on the celebrated Soma label. Instantly hailed by the dance music press as the work of a new breed of house innovators, the single was followed by "Da Funk," the band's first true hit (the record sold 30,000 copies worldwide and saw thorough rinsings by everyone from Kris Needs to the Chemical Brothers). Although the group had only released a trio of singles ("The New Wave" and "Da Funk," as well as the 1996 limited pressing of "Musique"), in early 1996 Daft Punk were the subject of a minor bidding war. The group eventually signed with Virgin, with its first long-player, Homework, appearing early the following year (a brief preview of the album, "Musique," was also featured on the Virgin compilation Wipeout XL next to tracks from Photek, Future Sound of London, the Chemical Brothers, and Source Direct). As with the earlier singles, the group's sound is a brazen, dancefloor-oriented blend of progressive house, funk, electro, and techno, with sprinklings of hip-hop-styled breakbeats and excessive, crowd-firing samples similar to other anthemic dance-fusion acts such as the Chemical Brothers and Monkey Mafia. In addition to his role in Daft Punk, Bangalter operates the Roulé label and has recorded under his own name (the underground smash "Trax on da Rocks") as well as Stardust (the huge club/commercial hit "Music Sounds Better with You"). After four long years of fans eagerly awaiting a follow-up to their brilliant debut, Daft Punk finally issued Discovery in March 2001. The live record Alive 1997 followed at the end of the year, and a by-now predictable four-year wait preceded the release of Human After All in early 2005. One year later, Daft Punk released a compilation, Musique, Vol. 1: 1993-2005, and in 2007 their second live record, Alive 2007, arrived. The album and its single "Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger" won Grammy Awards early in 2009; shortly after, it was announced that the duo would compose the soundtrack to Tron: Legacy, the sequel to the 1982 classic sci-fi film Tron. Daft Punk's music for the movie was released in November 2010, shortly before the film -- which featured the group in a cameo -- arrived in theaters. Early in 2013, Daft Punk announced that they planned to have a new album released by May of that year. That March, the duo announced the album's title, Random Access Memories, and also launched an extensive press campaign featuring snippets of the album's lead single, "Get Lucky," and interviews with some of their collaborators (Nile Rodgers, Paul Williams, Giorgio Moroder, Panda Bear). The single was officially released in April, and Random Access Memories arrived in May. The album became one of Daft Punk's biggest successes, ultimately winning Grammy Awards for Best Dance/Electronica Album, Album of the Year, and Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical. "Get Lucky" earned Grammys for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance and Record of the Year. In 2014, the duo appeared on Pharrell's album G I R L and collaborated with Jay-Z on the song "Computerized." A 2015 documentary titled Daft Punk Unchained charted their history from the '90s into the 2010s, featuring interviews with Rodgers, Pharrell, and Kanye West, among others. The duo remained active, collaborating next with the Weeknd's Abel Tesfaye on a pair of songs from his 2016 album Starboy, including the number one hit title track. ~ Sean Cooper, Rovi

French DJ and electronic musician Mike Lévy produces industrial-tinged techno and electro under the moniker Gesaffelstein, a made-up word meant as a reference to both the concept of Gesamtkunstwerk (total work of art) and Albert Einstein. Heavily influenced by early EBM acts like Nitzer Ebb and Front 242 as well as techno and house producers such as Green Velvet and Laurent Garnier, his sinister tracks injected a dose of darkness back into the club scene during the late 2000s and early 2010s. He built up a cult following with his initial releases, then achieved mainstream success with the release of his debut album, as well as co-production credits for Kanye West. Lévy was born in Lyon, France in 1985, and he began listening to electronic dance music as a teenager. He began experimenting with synthesizers, and started producing tracks after he moved to Paris in 2003. He debuted the Gesaffelstein project in 2008 with Vengeance Factory, an EP released by French label OD Records. Modern Walk soon followed on the Hacker's GoodLife label. Zone, another imprint run by the Hacker, released The Operator in 2009. Gesaffelstein signed to Tiga's Turbo label in 2010, issuing Variations that year, followed by Conspiracy, Pt. I and II in 2011. During the same year, he released a split 12" with Brodinski (Bromance #1) and collaborated with the Hacker (Zone 4). Conspiracy Remixes and Bromance #4: Rise of Depravity both followed in 2012. By this time, in addition to becoming a favorite among DJs, he had become a sought-after remixer as well, with clients including Cassius, Moby, Miss Kittin, Duck Sauce, and Lana Del Rey. Lévy's breakthrough year proved to be 2013. Along with Daft Punk, Brodinski, and Mike Dean, he co-produced two tracks on Kanye West's Yeezus. Gesaffelstein's full-length debut, Aleph, arrived on Parlophone soon after, and achieved critical acclaim. In addition, the disturbing, violent videos for lead singles "Pursuit" and "Hate or Glory" racked up millions of views, and the producer's tracks found their way into television programs and video games. He also released I Love Techno 2013, his first mix CD, on Lektroluv. In 2015, Gesaffelstein collaborated with French electronic pioneer Jean Michel Jarre on a track titled "Conquistador." He also ventured into soundtrack work, composing the ominous music for the thriller Maryland (aka Disorder), directed by Alice Winocour. The score was given a limited vinyl issue in September of 2015. Returning after a long hiatus, Gesaffelstein issued the hard-hitting single "Reset" in 2018. The track was then included on his 2019 full-length, Hyperion, which also featured the single "Lost in the Fire" with the Weeknd. ~ Paul Simpson, Rovi

French electronic music producer and DJ Christophe Le Friant built a career under the Bob Sinclar moniker, spreading the sounds of French house to international ears from the late '90s into the 2000s. In the midst of a mid-2000s chart run -- with his trio of Western Dream, Soundz of Freedom, and Born in '69 all certified gold in his native France -- his song "Love Generation" topped charts across the globe in 2005 and he received a Grammy nomination the year after for another chart-topper, "World, Hold On (Children of the Sky)" featuring Steve Edwards. He continued to release charting singles into the 2010s, including 2016's "Someone Who Needs Me." He is also the head of the French label Yellow Productions, which he founded in 1993 with Alain Ho. Le Friant made his debut as Chris the French Kiss in the '80s, creating downtempo hip-hop project the Mighty Bop and his acid jazz Réminiscence Quartet. In the late '90s, he started performing as Bob Sinclar (named after a character in the well-known French film Le Magnifique), issuing his debut effort Paradise in 1998. The set charted in France, New Zealand, and the U.K. Sinclar followed in 2000 with Champs Elysees, which was certified gold in France. After 2003's III, he stormed charts across Europe with 2006's Western Dream, home to hit singles "Love Generation," "World, Hold On," "Rock This Party," and "Tennessee." He quickly followed with Soundz of Freedom in 2007, his first Top Ten release. His mid-2000s chart success continued on 2009's Born in '69, which featured appearances by the Sugarhill Gang, Shabba Ranks, Axwell, and Kevin Lyttle. Sinclar kicked off the 2010s with remix effort Made in Jamaica, which spun his greatest hits with a distinct island twist. Reggae artists Shaggy, Gary Pine, Queen Ifrica, Tony Rebel, and Dollarman all made appearances on the Sly & Robbie-produced set. Recruiting Pitbull, Fatman Scoop, Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Snoop Dogg, and Sean Paul, Sinclar took a page from David Guetta's high-profile collaboration handbook with 2012's Disco Crash, which landed in the French Top 20. He followed with the sleek Paris by Night mix in 2013. Sinclar continued with non-album single releases, including 2015's "Feel the Vibe" with Dawn Tillman, 2016's Top 50 "Someone Who Needs Me," and 2017's "Til the Sun Rise Up" with Akon. In 2018 he issued "I Believe." ~ Neil Z. Yeung

Proving just how all-encompassing the French touch style can be, Justice builds on its vintage funk, disco, and house foundations by adding prog, metal, new wave, indie, and a lot of devil-may-care attitude. Starting with the Grammy-nominated 2007 single "D.A.N.C.E." and that year's full-length † (aka Cross), the Parisian duo defined the brash, stylish, yet tongue-in-cheek appeal of their label, Ed Banger Records, in the mid- to late 2000s. From there, their music only grew bolder and more unexpected. They cranked up the riffs on 2011's Audio, Video, Disco, collaborated with the London Contemporary Orchestra on 2016's Woman and mashed up their own songs on 2018's Grammy-winning Woman Worldwide. With every release, Justice have reimagined the genre-bending possibilities of a world where all music is available to hear -- and recombine -- in an instant. Justice's Gaspard Augé and Xavier de Rosnay began making music in the early 2000s, and first appeared on Musclorvision's Hits Up to You!, a 2003 compilation of songs intended to sound like Eurovision song contest entries. That year, Justice also remixed Simian's "Never Be Alone" for a college radio song contest; Ed Banger signed the duo and released the single, which eventually became popular in England and Germany as well as France. In 2005, Augé and de Rosnay released Justice's debut single, "Waters of Nazareth." During this time, they also established themselves as prolific remixers, reworking songs for artists including N.E.R.D., Britney Spears, Death from Above 1979, Fatboy Slim, Daft Punk, Franz Ferdinand, and Mr. Oizo. Justice's breakthrough arrived in 2007 with the release of "D.A.N.C.E.," a catchy single with an attention-getting video that featured animated T-shirts. The duo's first album, † (aka Cross), appeared that June and incorporated samples from unexpected sources like the Italian prog rock outfit Goblin along with more typical dance music. The album's accolades included nominations for Best Dance Recording for "D.A.N.C.E." and Best Electronic/Dance Album for † at the 50th Grammy Awards. The live album and concert film A Cross the Universe appeared in 2008, and the following year, Justice's remix of MGMT's "Electric Feel" won a Grammy for Best Remixed Recording, Non Classical. Remixes of songs by U2 and Lenny Kravitz, as well as production work on the Birdy Nam Nam song "The Parachute Ending," kept them busy in 2009. Augé and de Rosnay returned in 2011 with their second album, Audio, Video, Disco, which was filled with prog rock sounds, guitars, and plenty of new wave-era influences. They toured extensively, with their second live album, Access All Arenas, released in 2013. Three years later, Justice returned with a pair of singles (July's "Safe and Sound" and September's "Randy") that arrived ahead of the full-length Woman that November. Described by Augé and de Rosnay as their most joyful music yet, the album featured the London Contemporary Orchestra as well as vocalists including Morgan Phalen, Romuald, and Zoot Woman's Johnny Blake. While adapting their songs to tour in support of the album, Justice liked the reworked versions so much that they recorded them in the studio. The results were Woman Worldwide, which Ed Banger and Because Music issued in August 2018. The following February, the album won the Grammy Award for Best Dance/Electronic Album. ~ Jason Birchmeier & Heather Phares, Rovi

Kungs (pronounced Koongs), aka Valentin Brunel, is a fresh-faced producer from the south of France. He started his musical career with a djembe gifted by his parents to him at the age of five. From these early days Valentin could spend entire afternoons listening to Rock’n’Roll classics with his father. From The Who to The Kooks with many in-between, this essential listening forged the first steps to Kungs inspiration as an artist. As a name that has already exploded across the dance pop spectrum and for a fresh, unique European talent that is only still 21, he possesses a musical gift that is only set to springboard to extortionate new heights. His unavoidable, global hit of a track ‘This Girl’ - a remake of a smooth, underground funk track from Australian trio Cookin’ On 3 Burners – took the soulful, high vocals of the original and injected a deep house, sunshine-filled vibe that rippled from Europe, to the US and beyond. Taking #1 accolades across an eye-popping 45 countries including his native France, and dozens of Top 10 placements across Austria, Canada, Denmark, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland; Kungs’s success came in the blink of an eye, but make no mistake, he’s no one trick pony.

Though he grew up singing in the church choir and studying classical music, by age 13 French DJ Martin Solveig (born Martin Picandet) had his first pair of turntables and was showing off his skills to his friends. At 18, while working in a local record store, he further discovered the complexity of electronic music, and shortly thereafter was spinning at some of the most prestigious clubs in Paris. In 2001, Solveig worked with Bob Sinclar on Africanism, contributing his track "Edony" to the album. The single went on to be a hit, and after graduating from college, the DJ decided to release a full-length record. Sur la Terre -- which came out in 2002 on his own label, Mixture, and was made using both live and electronic instrumentation -- was also inspired by African rhythms, leading to a remix of Malian singer Salif Keita's song "Malan." In 2004 Solveig decided to move toward American funk and rock, releasing "Rocking Music," sung by Jay Sebag, followed by another full-length, Hedonist, in 2005. A third album, C'est la Vie, was issued in 2008, but it was only with his fourth effort, 2011's aptly titled Smash, that he finally broke through into the mainstream. Home to a number of singles featuring Dragonette, Smash included Solveig's chart-topping hit song "Hello" with the Canadian band, the success of which attracted the interest of Madonna. The singer chose him to work on her album MDNA, and the pair developed a mutual respect and a close working relationship in the studio. Born out of the imagination of electronica composer Vincent Belorgey, Kavinsky is the fictional character who graces the covers of both Teddy Boy and 1986, Belorgey's first two EPs. The illustrated Kavinsky bears a striking resemblance to the French DJ himself, although the back-story Belorgey created to go with his pseudonym is far removed from the artist's own modest history. The story goes that after crashing his Testarossa in 1986, Kavinsky reappeared as a zombie in 2006 to make electronic music. Luckily for Belorgey, his zombie tale serves as a good story line for a music video, as he demonstrated with the single "Testarossa Overdrive," from the Teddy Boy EP. Belorgey stumbled upon electronic music by chance, when he was given a discarded Apple computer by Quentin Dupieux, also known as Mr. Oizo. The fully loaded Apple led to Kavinsky's first tracks, while several roles in Mr. Oizo's music videos and the film Steak gave him an opportunity to meet record label executives. A recording contract followed shortly after Belorgey presented his first tracks to Record Makers head Marc Tessier du Cros. In 2006, Belorgey, under the pseudonym Kavinsky, released Teddy Boy. The 1986 EP followed in 2007 and Kavinsky was soon touring with Justice, SebastiAn, and Daft Punk. In 2008, he released a third EP, Blazer, on the Fool's Gold label, while 2011 found his "Nightcall" being used in the title sequence for the film Drive. "Nightcall" landed on Kavinsky's 2013 effort Outrun, the album named after Sega's hit video game, which just happened to feature a Testarossa. ~ Celeste Rhoads, Rovi

With his innovative blend of electronic production, vibrant instrumentation, and ethereal vocals, Petit Biscuit has quickly risen to become one of the most respected––and fearlessly independent––young artists of his generation. A classically trained musician since childhood, Mehdi Benjelloun was just 15 when he wrote, recorded, and self-released his smash hit “Sunset Lover.” At once epic and intimate, the song immediately struck a chord with fans around the world and spread like wildfire, catapulting him to worldwide acclaim (now over 550 million streams, and counting). In 2017, Petit Biscuit released his debut album, Presence. The LP showcased his talents for combining ambient, techno, and house influences with both classical and experimental arrangements. Presence charted worldwide and received critical global acclaim. A collection of boundary-pushing singles followed in 2018, along with a cover of Phoenix’s “1901” for triple j’s ‘Like a Version’––further highlighting his diverse tastes and talents. His most recent single, “We Were Young,” featuring UK singer-songwriter JP Cooper, finds him again exploring new sounds, illustrating his continued growth as a composer and producer. Here he experiments with layering his signature electronic sound with R&B and alternative elements, seamlessly forging these seemingly disparate elements into a soaring whole. Throughout this meteoric rise, the Frenchman has retained complete creative independence.

Polo & Pan are timeless. The Parisian duo of Paul Armand-Delille (Polo) and Alexandre Grynszpan (Pan) make music that flicks like frames through Golden Era Hollywood films, delivered with a deft French touch that playfully imbues house, disco, and electro in service one of the most compelling acts in dance music right now. While tracks like ‘Canopée’ and ‘Dorothy’ are now essential playing for any rooftop or beachside party no matter your latitude, Polo & Pan’s live performances bring their music to life with a sparkling vibrancy. One look around the dancefloor—whether it’s sold-out US tours or major festival performances—and you’ll see smiles, pretenses dropped, and earnest joy on the faces around you. That, more than their cultured heritage, global appeal, or history of underground hits, might be the Polo & Pan’s most remarkable quality. 2020 sees Polo & Pan sail into new waters. The ‘Home Sweet Home’ mixtape points the way for influences in their sound, dropping references to everything from Joao Gilberto to Beethoven in the process. On the single ‘Feel Good’ and a corresponding Feel Good EP, there are richer textures and more complex emotions. But the sound, the feeling the music brings to the dancefloor, is uncompromisingly, inimitably, and undoubtedly Polo & Pan. As is the case for many iconoclasts, It may have taken some time for the world-at-large to catch Polo & Pan’s creative drift, but now we are all very much along for the voyage.

In 2014, French 79 appeared on a music scene limited to the French territory, or so he thought. Within just a few months it quickly became an international hub that elevated the artist’s career. The single Between the Buttons, a contemplative, synth heavy gem enhanced by a beautiful arpeggiator, excepted from his first EP Angel, instantly placed him on the list of today’s most important producers. This first successful attempt enriched the tracklist of the album Olympic, alongside another pop gem, “Diamond Veins”, a duet with North American diva Sarah Rebecca. The album was quickly met with a worldwide audience, paving the way for Simon Henner to acquire over 150 concerts around the Globe. This led him to becoming an ambassador for Marseille’s electronic scene – a territory he had already stepped into with the various projects of Husbands, Nasser and Kid Francescoli.

The story behind NTO started with a match made in heaven, a kid from the South of France always hooked to his guitar, and electronic music. After going to the Sziget Festival when he was 18, NTO started to hang out regularly at La Villa Rouge, and Bar Live, two legendary clubs in the South of France. At the time, German minimal techno music was booming and Anthony Favier would spend his nights listening to Stephan Bodzin, James Holden, or the very beginnings of Paul Kalkbrenner. The story behind NTO is also about his friendship with Worakls and Joachim Pastor, with whom he created Hungry Music in 2013. Performing together on the Olympia’s stage to the Vieilles Charrues Festival, they learned to master the stage. Thanks to his hits "Trauma" and "La clé des champs", which account for several millions of streams on DSPs, NTO's career took off internationally. Today, NTO is about to start a new chapter of his career. His debut album “Apnea” will be out on October 8.

Describing Darius’ music is like trying to gather the infinitely large and the infinitely small, or thinking music can be as hedonist as introspective. For almost ten years, the discreet producer feeds us his dreamy music, filled with cosmic images. Darius cultivates his inspirations since his debuts in 2012, the year he joined his label Roche Musique, who didn’t think twice about offering him to be part of the Label. Inspired by filtered house music from the French Touch era, Darius takes nonetheless a different path than his elders. At a time when everyone would still sample, he chose to bring together spatial territories and immersed symbolic, through melodies that make you want to dance as much as dream, like his EP « Romance », released on Roche Musique in 2014. With this first project, Darius becomes more meticulous and plays with hypnotic textures when he presents his debut album “Utopia” in 2017. Beyond uptempo and club songs, Darius unfolds a precise narrative, between sound design and a sci-fi movie trailer music. Whether it’s through his own productions, collaborations (with FKJ, Dabeull, ((( O )))...) or remixes (alongside those for Dua Lipa, Lianne La Havas or Jessie Ware), Darius always shares a dreamy vision through his music, based on symbolism and mental landscapes that he wishes to pass on. — Inquiry/Booking World (ex Americas): antoine@divine-musique.com Booking Americas: dlandau@tbaagency.com PR: amanda@twntythree.com

The album arrived in the States in April 2013. Breakbot spent the next few years touring and remixing tracks by Birdy Nam Nam, Phoenix, and Busy P while working on new music on the road. BIO

Though it's a sure bet he'll linger in the minds of most for his omnipresent Levi's advert and 1999 European chart-topper "Flat Beat," music video director Quentin Dupieux turned in some excellent electronic productions as Mr. Oizo. Far from the madding crowds of ad-oriented hipster trance or jungle, "Flat Beat" was a midtempo techno production with heavily distorted effects and a playful nature that fit perfectly with the visual focus, a lovable yellow puppet. Following the infectious single's freak success, Dupieux continued releasing bizarre, innovative Mr. Oizo records, influencing numerous styles of left-field dance music. While still a teenager, Dupieux began directing short films for French television, and turned in no less than eight works between 1994 and 1998. His associations with the music world began in 1997, when leading French dance citizen Laurent Garnier serendipitously bought a car from Dupieux's father. Dupieux directed the video for Garnier's "Flashback" single, as well as the long-form video Nightmare Sandwiches, starring and featuring music by Garnier. That year, he also moved into music production, with his debut single, "#1," appearing on Garnier's F Communications label. After the video he (naturally) directed for second single "M-Seq" landed on an ad-agency desk, he was tapped to direct the commercial that launched Levi's vaunted non-denim line of trousers. The eccentric advert -- featuring a puppet named Flat Eric maniacally bobbing his head to the music in the passenger seat of a Chevelle while a nonplussed human driver concentrated on the road -- soon became famous across Europe, and the single (also on F Communications) hit number one all across the Continent. (It eventually sold over two million copies.) The obligatory full-length, Analog Worms Attack, followed in October, and earned American distribution early the following year. Dupieux also directed the video for "Party People" by Alex Gopher. After taking some time off to update his studio from analog to digital, his computer-driven album Moustache (Half a Scissor) arrived in 2005. The glitchy, frenetic album was a major left turn from his previous work, and was deemed "unlistenable" by the very label that released it, F Communications. Nevertheless, the album obtained a small cult following, and ended up being influential to the emerging generation of French dance producers spearheaded by Justice and the Ed Banger label. Appropriately enough, Mr. Oizo signed with Ed Banger in 2006, with the Transexual EP following on the label in 2007. Dupieux's first feature film, Steak, was also released that year; its soundtrack was written by him as well as SebastiAn and Sébastien Tellier. The full-length Lambs Anger landed in 2008 as the most dance-oriented Oizo album to date, and featured guest artist Uffie. After working on Uffie's 2010 debut album, Sex Dreams and Denim Jeans, Dupieux collaborated with Gaspard Augé of Justice for the soundtrack to his next film, Rubber. The fourth proper Oizo full-length was the 2011 effort Stade 2, an album that brought back some of the dissonance and glitch. Also that year, Moustache (Half a Scissor) was given its first vinyl release by Brainfeeder, the label founded by Flying Lotus. Film work occupied the next few years as Dupieux directed Wrong (2012) and Wrong Cops (2013), both of the films accompanied by Mr. Oizo soundtracks. The latter film featured an appearance by Marilyn Manson, who also sang on the track "Solid" on Mr. Oizo's 2013 EP Amicalement. Dupieux returned to Brainfeeder for 2014's The Church, which highlighted Mr. Oizo's cartoonish darkness and fondness for West Coast hip-hop stylings. Back on Ed Banger, his 2015 single "Hand in the Fire" featured vocals from pop star Charli XCX. A vastly different version of the song appeared on Mr. Oizo's 2016 full-length, All Wet, which also featured appearances by Peaches, Boys Noize, Skrillex, and others. ~ John Bush, Rovi

Hugo Leclercq, the Grammy-nominated musician known as Madeon, first appeared to many as something like a teenaged fireball. In 2011, his frantic yet perfectly sculptural “Pop Culture” famously sampled 39 hits, live, from Daft Punk to Solange, instantly propelling the then-17-year-old to the international stage. By the time of his debut album, Adventure, in 2015, Madeon was a globally beloved artist with production credits for Lady Gaga and Coldplay. Soon after, he teamed with longtime friend Porter Robinson for “Shelter,” an immersive, ecstatic single he calls their “victory lap.” Good Faith is this radiant new era. The songs from the album are the sort of pop songs that, by any other artist, would have required hard work from a team of writers and producers. Madeon, of course, wrote and produced them himself. Following the path he began on Adventure with songs like “Home,” he is the sole lead vocalist on each of the new tracks. “I love to make that kind of music mostly on my own -- you’re not really supposed to be able to make it that way,” he says. Often, Madeon can seem as much a musician as a world-building architect, and there’s no question his full vision for Good Faith is shining through in high definition, standing as a brilliant statement of new purpose. Good Faith, which debuted at #1 on Billboard’s Dance/Electronic Albums chart and received a Grammy nomination for Best Dance/Electronic Album, was released on November 15, 2019.

Myd certainly is a surprising character. That’s because he knows how to do to a lot of different things. With his years of experience, over time he’s captured the art of making you dance in many different ways. For example, he earned his stripes and enjoyed his first taste of international success as part of the band Club Cheval. Next he got us dancing with his producing skills for French and international platinium artists as SCH or Kanye West. But even more so since he joined Pedro Winter’s clan at Ed Banger Records, who spotted his talent and made his skills shine. In the space of a few EPs and shows around the world, Myd has found his signature style : that of a meticulous musician who flirts between electro and indie pop, and whose sound leaves the studio for the club converting us to his concept of partying, whereby having fun means getting sweaty. With his baseball cap and moustache combo, the anthemic tunes “The Sun” or "Together We Stand" and his cult-status videos, Myd has sure understood how to unify a crowd of faithful dancers and upbeat party-goers, for whom the night always appears sun-drenched. With every set and every new release, we witness that whatever the fiesta, Myd sure knows how to get it started.

It was a holiday bromance that led to the formation of the duo. That was a long time ago, and it was an impressive fusion from the get-go. Together, these two didn’t waste any time before blending together their inspirations, which came together like clockwork. As soon as Paul relocated to Paris, they set their equipment to work, lighting up their keypads and rhythm boxes, to create the first tones of Synapson. “It’s a mix of atmospheres” they noted, where jazz and rap are coated with soul melodies and underpinned by the buzz of deep house. Their music is brimming with passion and comes straight from the heart, which ultimately gives it a chameleon effect as you could be anywhere when you listen to it - on a dusty road in the middle of nowhere or in the heat of a packed club.

No one ever forgets the first time they watched Back to the Future, one of the most exciting teen movies of the 80's, with Michael J. Fox being sent by a mad scientist back to the 60's in an incredible DeLorean. We’re willing to bet our skateboards that in a few years we’ll all look back fondly at the excitement stirred up by “Flashback FM”, the first electronic album by the French Jérémy Souillart (Møme) and the L.A.-based Canadian Ricky Ducati (Midnight to Monaco), with its trip back in time through the glorious musical past of the 70’s, 80’s and 90's. Møme & Ricky Ducati, one hell of a duo. Music for Jérémy is a passion that nourishes his ambition to produce. After making it big with his hit “Aloha” (more than 200 million streams, triple diamond), the artist gained a following both in France and internationally with his first album “Panorama” (gold record) released in 2016. He then went on to release several EPs written during his travels and played in numerous concerts around the world, performing live at most of the major French music festivals, culminating in a show at the Olympia and several more at the Cigale in Paris. “Flashback FM” is new direction for Møme, artistically speaking. It is more personal and timeless, a project that is a good deal warmer than what he has done so far. It's a promise for the future and a modern return (using current technologies, sounds, effects) to the origins (structures, harmonies) of electronic music.

A balaclava-wearing producer of stern (if frequently humor-laced) bass house tracks, Malaa surfaced in 2015, unidentified, though an early press bio dropped a crumb by referring to him as Parisian. Fool's Gold Records hosted the debut Malaa single, "Pregnant," immediately after which Tchami's Confession label became the supplier of roughly a dozen singles and EPs across 2016 and 2017. Among Malaa's most popular releases during this period were "Notorious" and the Tchami collaboration "Prophecy," while the artist also began to accumulate remix credits, highlighted by his commissioned work on Skrillex and Diplo's Jack Ü track "Mind." In 2018, Malaa and Tchami went on the No Redemption Tour, promoted with a compilation of the same title that featured exclusive remixes. The following year, he issued the high-energy singles "Revolt (featuring Jacknife)" and "Criminals (featuring Rezz)". ~ Andy Kellman, Rovi

With his new EP « Date At The Disco », the Lille-based (North of France) producer is determined to convince us house music is one that you can dance to. Revealed in 2017 with his single « Paris City Jazz », he already lays the foundations of his music : a tribute to grooves, whether disco or funk, infused with jazz tones. Ever since he started, Bellaire was obsessed by the idea of sampling at the service of a modern house music, without inhibition. Important part is also related to improvisation and giving space to the accidental, like when he invited trumpet player Roy Markson to play along on his track « Trumpet Call ». Everything went fast for Bellaire: a first show at cornerstone Paris electronic venue Concrete while he was still underaged, a first EP selling over 3000 vinyls and already 4 EPs to his name. His DJ skills quickly lead him traveling and playing all over the world, from Australia to Latin America through Canada, to meeting a loyal crowd in England where his shows always get sold out. European dance sensation Laurent Wolf spent the better part of his young adulthood experimenting with records and mixing sounds, long before the dance club DJ phenomenon was prevalent. As early as age 12, Wolf could be found in the basement or bedroom of his parents' home in Mantes-la-Jolie, Paris, France, creating turntable magic. His first professional DJ sets were in Orgeval clubs, which quickly developed into a weekly night at the famed DJ hot spot Queen. Spinning up to three nights a week starting in 1992, it was not long before Wolf had transitioned into the recording industry. He spent some time remixing for other artists before deciding to create his own music. Released in 1995, "House Train" was shortly followed by "Saxo" and "Calinda" (from Wolf's first solo disc, Sunshine Paradise, which earned him international attention). Clearing 250,000 in sales, he earned a reputation as a rising star worldwide, and Wolf began receiving invitations to DJ for huge audiences all over Europe, Asia, and Latin America. In 2004 two compilations of Wolf's work were released, Positiv Energy and Afro Dynamic. As an established figure in the club scene, the DJ released Hollyworld in 2006, reaching his widest audience to date. Wash My World followed in 2008, featuring the European hit single "No Stress", which reached number one in Belgium and France, while in November 2011, Laurent Wolf released Harmony, an album that included "Love Again" featuring Andrew Roachford. ~ Evan C. Whilst some follow trends, others set them. Award-winning music producer and live performer Rodriquez Jr. also known as Olivier Mateu has spent 20 years in the industry, with his vast experience of all genres of electronic music making him the visionary of melodic house and techno he is today. Initially, Mateu made his name under the mentorship of the legendary Laurent Garnier, releasing music on the revered F-Communications label as one half of French electro act The Youngsters. Following this he gradually honed his style into the dynamic, colourful sound of beauty that can now be regularly found on Mobilee, Anjunadeep and demanded for on remixes of Stephan Bodzin, Booka Shade, Eli & Fur, Steve Bug, Timo Maas and more. Drawing inspiration for his live performances from the vintage synthesizers, keyboards and dusty analog gear of his studio in Paris, Rodriguez Jr. relishes the opportunity to travel the globe and realise his project on stage. In doing so he has amassed a devoted and loyal fan base through the creation of his unique movement. Some of the most recent acclaimed shows featured huge festival performances at Sziget (Hungary), Lightning in A Bottle and CRSSD (California), Paraiso and Sonar Festival (Spain). Continuing to blur the boundaries between electronic and organic like few others can, his extensive touring schedule sees Mateu at world-renowned clubs every week, taking him to the likes of Solumun’s party at Destino Ibiza, Fabric London and Space Miami.

Cassius, a long-running project that was a new addition to the top ranks of French electronica circa 1999, actually comprised two of the scene's most experienced producers: Philippe Zdar and Hubert Blanc-Francart (aka Boombass). Besides their productions for Mo' Wax as La Funk Mob, the duo had also manned the boards for several excellent LPs by French rapper MC Solaar. They first met back in the late '80s, working in the same studio (Zdar was an engineer, and Boombass was just learning the trade). Boombass worked with MC Solaar, and joined Zdar to release two EPs on Mo' Wax as La Funk Mob in 1994. Zdar also teamed with Etienne De Crecy (of Super Discount) to release an LP as Motorbass. Finally, Zdar and Boombass came together in late 1998 as Cassius. Combining the jazzy hip-hop of Boombass with Zdar's phase'n'filter acid-disco, Cassius debuted with the single "Cassius 1999," a club anthem and British Top 20 hit, late in 1998. The full-length 1999 appeared early the following year. Cassius returned in 2002 with Au Rêve and again in 2006 with 15 Again. The group would spend the next decade on hiatus, although Zdar kept busy with production and remixes, working with the likes of Chromeo, Phoenix, Cat Power, and the Beastie Boys. The latter two artists returned the favor when the duo re-emerged in 2016 with "Action," featuring Cat Power and the Beasties' Mike D. The single landed on the concept album Ibifornia, released later that same year. Philippe Zdar died in June 2019 after falling from the window of a tall building. ~ John Bush, Rovi

Before they perfected the electronica-meets-tango sound of the Gotan Project, Paris musicians Philippe Cohen Solal and Christoph H. Müller worked together in The Boyz From Brazil and Stereo Action Unlimited as early as 1996. Releasing their music on Solal's ¡Ya Basta! Records, the two quickly caught the ears of Jazzanova, Gilles Peterson, Mr. Scruff, and other electronica tastemakers. Despite all the success, the duo wanted a project that had a more consistent mood. Feeling that both tango and dub had a subdued and melancholic sound, they decided to combine the genres. With the addition of Eduardo Makaroff in 1999, they formed the Gotan Project and released their first of four 10"s Vuelvo al sur on Ya Basta in February 2000. The band had drummed up quite a buzz in the U.K. and European press, soon XL Recordings snagged the group. Their first album, La revancha del tango, was released in 2001, and the self-proclaimed "top Argentinian musicians exiled in Paris" toured to support the album, with guest musicians and a video backdrop by artist Prisca Lobjoy. Lunático, their second studio album, was named after tango legend Carlos Gardel's champion racehorse, featuring guests Calexico and Gustavo Beytelmann recorded between Buenos Aires and Paris. Tango 3.0 appeared in 2010. To celebrate the tenth anniversary of La Revancha del Tango, the Gotan Project enlisted the stars of the nueva cumbia scene to remix the album and retitled it La Revancha en Cumbia. ~ David Jeffries, Rovi

Otherwise known as Jean-Yves Prieur, he began playing the guitar at the age of 13 and played in several French punk groups during the early '80s. He moved on to production as well by the end of the decade, and moved on to reggae and hip-hop with a band named Mega Reefer Scratch. By 1996, Prieur had built his own studio, christened himself Kid Loco and released the Blues Project EP for Yellow Productions. The full-length A Grand Love Story appeared one year later, earning praise from many in the indie-rock and electronica community. A remix album was released in 1998. Prieur also accompanied St. Etienne'sSarah Cracknell for a rendition of "The Man I Love" from the Gershwin tribute Red Hot + Rhapsody, and has remixed Stereolab, Pulp, Mogwai, the High Llamas, Dimitri from Paris and Talvin Singh. The reconfigured Prelude to a Grand Love Story appeared in 1999 as Loco's US full-length debut, and the remix album Jesus Life for Children Under 12 Inches followed later that same year. One of the few producers to pursue a real fusion of jazz and house music, Frenchman Ludovic Navarre began recording in the early '90s using various aliases (Subsystem, Modus Vivendi, Deepside) for a range of French imprints. St. Germain debuted in 1994 for Laurent Garnier's F Communications label and Navarre released his first album, Boulevard, in 1996. Featuring trumpeter Pascal Ohse, the album worked as a hybrid of American R&B and jazz with the growing French house scene exemplified by Garnier, La Funk Mob, and Dimitri from Paris. Tourist, issued at the turn of the century by Blue Note, took the concept further, with Navarre working post-production on a fuller complement of musicians. Navarre has also remixed such varying artists as Björk, Pierre Henry, and the Suburban Knight. As St. Germain he signed with Nonesuch in early 2015. In May he announced a self-titled offering -- his first album of new material in 15 years. Inspired by his longtime love of Malian music, the album was recorded in Navarre's Paris studio. His stable of studio musicians included Brazilian percussionist Jorge Bezerra, Malian kora player Mamadou Cherif Soumano, Malian guitarist and n'goni player Guimba Kouyate, and longtime associate Martiniquais keyboardist Didier Davidas. St. Germain's pre-release single "Real Blues" was issued in May, while the album was released that October. ~ John Bush, Rovi

The new project called KUU will be launching in the summer of 2020 in partnership with Warner Records. Heavy influenced by the first wave of UK/Balearic house and the post disco euro beats of the eighties, Alex intends to soundtrack 2021 and beyond.

BIO

Agoria is not like any other rave child. At the beginning of the 90s, he experienced a golden age where history was written with each new evening. Since then, as one of the pioneers who invented techno in France, he has proven himself by escaping from the framework that he himself has contributed to creating and ventured successfully into the universe of cinema, fashion and contemporary art. This desire to compose real music for today, while avoiding the codes that often stifle it, found its peak with the album "Impermanence" in 2011 and even more with "Drift", in 2019. More than any other of his albums, "Drift" confirmed his talent for the sensuality of melodies and modernist productions, without denying his electronic roots. Agoria's desire "to constantly try new adventures", lead him to create the label Sapiens. In 2020 Olivier Van Hoofstadt the director asked him to compose the soundtrack for "Lucky". Agoria also wrote music for the serie by Jan Kounen "The Show". The wealth of experiences lead him to collaborate with the visual artist Philippe Parreno with whom he participated in the writing of the soundtrack for the immersive installation for the Tate Modern. But it was during the last edition of Art Basel, where Agoria, was invited to present his work for the first time. His pieces were hailed by the famous American magazine "Interior Design" as one of the strong points of the '2019 edition. The Agoria story goes on, and he will soon return with another new album

Author-composer, performer and producer of his tracks, Fhin offers a unique gender blending sound. This syncretism, tinted with a romantic touch and hypnotic grooves is an invitation to dream, a cardinal notion in the conception of his repertoire. Trauma is Fhin's first album and brings together tracks that are his most personal, a reflection of his history and universe. At the age of 5, he gets surgery for a tumour that blocks his lung and prevents the growth of his spine. After an 11-hours operation, he miraculously emerges without sequelae but spends his next 10 years growing up with a brace. To get away from these physical constraints, he quickly rises an interest in music. Surrounded by a mother and a grandmother that are both confirmed pianists, he learns to play drums, piano, guitar and mimicks songs from Pink Floyd, Radiohead that he records in his bedroom. As a teenager, he discovers lucid dreams, that state of REM sleep in which he takes control of his visions to become its master. He composes his first tracks and discovers electronic music, that he aprehends by spending hours playing with textures and synthesizers. Fhin moves his home studio in 2018 at his grandmother’s place in the countryside near Versailles. He records his first album « Trauma » set to be released in 2020.
