BIO

As one of the most popular DJs of the late-2000s EDM boom, Grammy-nominated Swedish producer Avicii went on to top the charts in multiple countries and tour the world with his uplifting house anthems. Born Tim Bergling in Stockholm in 1989, he began making music at the age of 18, writing and remixing tracks in his bedroom and uploading them onto the Internet. Influenced by Daft Punk and Steve Angello, his melodic house sound gained a huge following, which led to support from both Tiësto, who invited him to perform a weekly residency at Privilege in Ibiza, and Pete Tong, who released first single "Manman" through his Bedroom Bedlam label. In addition to remixing tracks for Little Boots, Robyn, and Dizzee Rascal, Bergling issued a handful of his own singles, like "Bromance" and "My Feelings for You" in 2010. "Seek Bromance" -- which added the vocals of Amanda Wilson atop his earlier track -- became a modest hit across Europe. However, it wasn't until his next single, 2011's "Levels," that his international popularity exploded. Featuring a sample of Etta James' "Something's Got a Hold on Me," the track topped dance charts across the globe and reached platinum status in at least ten countries, launching Avicii into the mainstream. Toward the end of 2012, Bergling issued "I Could Be the One," a collaborative single with Nicky Romero. The song became another hit for the producer and was featured heavily on reality TV shows and European radio. The following year, he released the single "Wake Me Up." Featuring the vocals of Aloe Blacc, the pastoral soul track peaked at the top of the charts in over 20 countries, making it his biggest hit to date. That "folktronica" sound would feature heavily on his debut album, True, which arrived in late 2013. The multi-platinum LP featured guests like Adam Lambert, MØ, and Nile Rodgers, and produced four additional hit singles like "Hey Brother" and "Addicted to You." A version of the album featuring Bergling's own club remixes -- the aptly titled True: Avicii by Avicii -- arrived in 2014. That same year, Bergling scored another mainstream hit with "A Sky Full of Stars," a collaboration with Coldplay. In late 2015, his sophomore album, Stories, arrived. Continuing his cross-genre exploration of EDM and pop, Bergling recruited guests like Zac Brown, Wyclef Jean, Matisyahu, and Martin Garrix for the effort, which topped the Billboard dance chart upon release. While he continued to perform and release new music, Bergling announced in early 2016 that he would retire from the live scene due to persistent health concerns. That summer, he performed his final live set in Ibiza. New music in the form of the Avici (01) EP arrived in summer 2017 while Bergling continued to produce material for an expected second and third installment of the EP series. However, on April 20, 2018, he suddenly passed away in Muscat, Oman at the age of 28. ~ Neil Z. Yeung & Jon O'Brien

In 2008, three visionary artists, Steve Angello, Sebastian Ingrosso, and Axwell formed Swedish House Mafia, rewriting the rules of electronic music. They infused house music with hip-hop swagger, rock 'n' roll attitude, and cinematic grandeur. Their legendary live performances elevated dance music from clubs to arenas and stadiums. They made history headlining Madison Square Garden in 2011 and headlining Coachella with The Weeknd in 2022, even partnering with Ikea to extend their unique aesthetic to a broader audience. Their track record included consecutive GRAMMY® nominations for hits like "Save the World" (2012) and "Don't You Worry Child" (2013). Rolling Stone hailed them as "redefining rave culture," while NME dubbed them "the rockstars of dance music." Following a record-breaking One Last Tour and a five-year hiatus, they returned as surprise Ultra Music Festival headliners in 2018. After the Save The World Reunion Tour, they finally fulfilled their musical destiny with the 2022 debut album "Paradise Again" on Republic Records. The album topped charts worldwide and featured a hit collaboration with The Weeknd on "A Moth To A Flame." Which now has garnered more than 800 millions streams across platforms. Additionally, their collaboration with Fred again on "Turn On the Lights" added another shining success to their illustrious career. Their return marks an exciting new chapter, promising more groundbreaking music to come.

Alesso, a DJ and dance music producer from Stockholm, Sweden, has achieved cross-genre success, blending progressive house with pop and scoring worldwide hits in collaboration with a wide range of artists. His earliest pop hits included 2012's "Calling (Lose My Mind)" (with Sebastian Ingrosso and Ryan Tedder) and 2013's "Under Control" (with Calvin Harris and Hurts), which reached number one in the U.K. He opened for Madonna on her 2012 world tour, and performed at major festivals such as Coachella, Creamfields, and Electric Daisy Carnival. "Heroes (We Could Be)," his 2014 hit featuring Tove Lo, preceded his 2015 debut full-length, Forever. His next major international hit, 2017's "Let Me Go," was a collaboration with actress Hailee Steinfeld and country duo Florida Georgia Line. Alessandro Lindblad, more commonly known as Alesso, is a DJ and dance music producer from Stockholm, Sweden. His career quickly gained mainstream recognition for his remixes of Tiësto, Swedish House Mafia, and Avicii, as well as his own productions. His first major achievement came in 2011, when his remix of Nadia Ali's track "Pressure" was one of the most successful EDM tracks of the year. Later in the same year, he placed in DJ Mag's Top 100 list, debuting at number 70. Early 2012 also started well for him, when he was named an MTV "one to watch," made his first BBC Radio 1 essential mix, and earned the Track of the Year award on Zane Lowe's prime-time Radio 1 slot for the single "Calling (Lose My Mind)." He also managed to move up many notches in DJ Mag's DJ of the Year listings to number 20. He leaped to major success when he had a U.K. chart number one with his collaborative single "Under Control" alongside Calvin Harris and Hurts. In 2014, he inked a deal with Def Jam Recordings, and in 2015 he issued his debut album, Forever, which included the singles "Tear the Roof Up," "Cool," and "Heroes (We Could Be)," the latter of which featured Swedish pop star Tove Lo. The following year, he issued a pair of collaborations with prominent Asian pop stars. A version of "I Wanna Know" featuring Taiwanese singer Jolin Tsai on vocals was promoted in Ibiza and Shanghai, while "Years" received a K-pop revamp with EXO's Chen. In 2017, he scored a modest hit on the all-star collaboration "Let Me Go," which featured Hailee Steinfeld, Andrew Watt, and Florida Georgia Line. The track hit the Top 40 across the globe, rising to number six on the Billboard Dance/Electronic chart. After closing out that year with the Anitta collaboration "Is That for Me," Alesso returned in 2018 with the solo singles "Remedy" and "Tilted Towers," and in early 2019 he released the mixtape Progresso: Volume 1. ~ James Pearce

With five Grammy nominations and a bright, distinctive sound, electronic dance musician Axwell is an award-winning DJ/producer and member of the progressive house supergroup Swedish House Mafia. With the latter, he conquered festivals throughout the early 2010s, scoring two platinum certifications with their albums Until One and Until Now. As a solo artist, he churned out consistent singles, most notably 2008's "What a Wonderful World," 2012's remix of "In My Mind," and 2018's "Belong." Born Axel Christofer Hedfors in Lund, Sweden, he grew up playing drums. His love of beats and percussion flowed naturally into electronic music composition, which he started as a teenager. He performed under early monikers OXL and Quazar before doling out remixes as Axwell. He first hit the Billboard dance chart hit in 2003 with the single "Burning" (a collaboration with Robbie Rivera and Suzan Brittan), while 2004 saw the release of "Feel the Vibe," a hit that would surface again in 2005 as "Feel the Vibe ('Til the Morning Comes)" with singer Tara MacDonald adding new vocals. The year 2005 also saw the release of the dance hit "Watch the Sunrise" with Steve Edwards on vocals, along with the formation of the DJ's own label, Axtone. In 2006, he would form the project Supermode with fellow producer Steve Angello, while in 2007 the pair was joined by DJ Sebastian Ingrosso for a DJ set in Ibiza under the name Swedish House Mafia. Two years later the trio signed a major-label recording contract with EMI and made their commercial production debut with the summer 2010 anthem "One," also known as "One (Your Name)" (the latter version featured Pharrell Williams of the Neptunes on vocals). The song was a Top Ten hit in the United Kingdom, Sweden, the Netherlands, and Belgium, and landed on the group's debut album, 2010's Until One. Two years later the group members announced they were breaking up and returning to their solo careers, although only after a farewell tour and the release of their second album, 2012's Until Now. That same year, Axwell's remix of Ivan Gough & Feenixpawl's "In My Mind" turned the track into a smash hit and earned Axwell a Grammy nomination for best remix. He followed it in 2013 with the solo hit "Center of the Universe," along with another collaboration with Ingrosso, the single "Roar." The two DJs officially formed the duo Axwell / Ingrosso in 2014, performing at festivals and releasing singles such as "Something New" and "Can't Hold Us Down." 2015 track "Sun Is Shining" was also a huge success, hitting number one on the Swedish singles chart and eventually being certified quadruple platinum. The duo released follow-up single "This Time" that November, with all proceeds donated to charity. These songs were eventually included on the duo's debut, More Than You Know, which arrived in late 2017. The pair later reunited with Angello at Ultra Miami 2018 for a surprise performance as Swedish House Mafia, teasing an official future reunion of the beloved trio. That same year, Axwell also released solo singles "Barricade" and Swedish chart hit "Belong." ~ Chris True & Neil Z. Yeung

For over 20 years, Eric Prydz has been synonymous with immaculately produced and unique sounding electronic music. The Platinum-selling artist is responsible for some of the biggest progressive house tracks, not to mention some of the most technically impressive live shows of any touring artist - HOLO/EPIC Prydz has headlined some of the world’s most storied venues, Madison Square Garden to Brixton Academy & Alexandra Palace, earned multiple Grammy nominations, hosted an ongoing radio show for Beats1 and topped charts with his alter-egos Pryda and Cirez D. It’s his dedication to his craft as a producer and DJ that leaves him in the highly enviable and singular position of appealing to dance music’s underground connoisseurs and main-stage masses alike. Pryda is Prydz’s most well-known alias, one whose sound is replicated endlessly in dance music. Listen to the discographies of any current electronic music success and you can hear Pryda’s influence—the ‘Pryda Sound,’ comprised of immaculately layered melodies and harmonies, is now almost a sub-genre unto itself. Cirez D offers a different perspective, a stark contrast to the rich melodies of Pryda, its stripped-back techno dark, raw, and designed for ominous warehouses and long, late-night sets. It’s a deliberate point of focus for Prydz, who relishes playing those environments, and Cirez D, like his other monikers, offers him the freedom to make and release the records that he wants to play, unconstrained by expectations.

Despite never having had any substantial hit in the U.S., Dr. Alban nevertheless has become one of the most recognizable faces of the '90s Euro-dance scene with his dancehall-inflected take on the style. Born in a middle-class Nigerian family of ten children, Alban relocated to Stockholm, Sweden at 23 to study dentistry. In order to pay for his studies, he started to work as a DJ, where he quickly gained notice for singing reggae-style over the records he spun. After he graduated, he managed to reconcile his medical activities with DJing for a while, until he met producer Denniz Pop, who signed him to his SweMix label. Adopting the Dr. Alban moniker as a nod to his dentistry background, he released his debut album Hello Afrika in late 1990, with both the title track and "No Coke" becoming million-selling European hits in 1991. In 1992, second album One Love earned him a sizable hit in the title track and unleashed another two million-selling-plus Euro-smashes in "It's My Life" and "Sing Hallelujah," cementing his place as one of Euro-dance's brightest stars. His third album, Look Who's Talking, came in 1994, with the title track giving him another large hit all over Europe; yet subsequent singles failed to match his previous successes, signaling that his star was about to fade. This was confirmed when both 1997's I Believe and 1999's Prescription failed to ignite any significant hits. Since then, he has only released one other album, 2007's Back to Basics, while also putting out largely ignored singles in the interim. ~ Ricardo Rainho

I’m an Albatraoz, Rave in the Grave, Little Swing) - 1 cup of Humor and sarcasm - A pinch of directing and video editing skills - A brain and a couple of cells - 1 cup of passion for sports (soccer and golf mainly) - A sprinkle of Swing, Jazz, and Electronic - A guitar or a piano (no strings or wind instruments plz) - A label and production company (House of Albatraoz) Instructions STEP 1: Start in 2010 with a young soccer enthusiast who finds humor even in the most serious of sports. STEP 2: Add a dash of love for instruments like guitar and piano, blending them with a whimsical sense of humor. Stir the sh*t out of it. STEP 3: Gradually separate the artist from the soccer field, allowing him to dive headfirst into the world of music. Throw in his little sister, Little Sis Nora, and add a couple of hits like I’m an Albatraoz, Little Swing, Rave in the Grave, and The Woodchuck Song. STEP 4: In a separate bowl, mix a record label, production company, and agency and slowly, “House of Albatraoz” will appear. STEP 5: Not quite there yet…maybe a feature film, musical, or a restaurant. Let’s see. Serving Suggestion: Take it with a grain of salt.

Mick Kastenholt, known by his stage name KAAZE, has become one of dance music's most potent burgeoning stars. With a passion for crafting dynamic and energetic sounds, KAAZE's inimitable and forward-thinking allure has sealed his position as an undeniable future star. It is also why, in 2024, he continues climbing his way to the peak of the electronic dance scene. KAAZE's career had opened worldwide with global DJ dates littering his tour schedule, millions of streams on his music, and even breaking into the Top100DJs Poll at #59. Collaborations with artists like David Guetta, Calvin Harris, Tiësto, Britney Spears, Steve Aoki, Hardwell, Sam Smith and Grammy-nominated John Martin The year 2023, KAAZE's path began to carve out another direction with his sound. Comprised of a blend of techno and electro, KAAZE revealed a more minimalist and reflective approach, going back to the earlier sounds of his career with club music as the focus, rediscovering everything from the harder-edged sounds to the structure of more poignant melodic and lyrically based tracks. The new path opened a new, yet familiar, foundation to broaden his creativity. Early iterations of this 'new sound' of KAAZE were his end of 2023 tracks like his pulsating remix of Calvin Harris & Sam Smith's 'Desire' and Remix for David Guetta & Kim Petras “When We We’re Young” alongside Steve Aoki, as well as his solo singles 'Last Call', 'In The Dark' and his full-tilt rework of Tiësto's iconic anthem 'Flight 643'.

With a style self-described as “BDSM pop” and “gay workout music,” the alluring sound of COBRAH reflects a natural evolution of music originating from the LGBTQ+ community from an artist who makes shapeshifting an art form in itself on releases like her self-titled 2021 EP and 2023’s full-length debut SUCCUBUS. Clara Blom Christiensen was born in Gothenburg, Sweden in 1996 -- a city that birthed such eclectic musicians as <a href="spotify:artist:2lVPicgpjjlbROFIzwGm8V">Björn Ulvaeus</a> of <a href="spotify:artist:0LcJLqbBmaGUft1e9Mm8HV">ABBA</a> and death metal band <a href="spotify:artist:57ylwQTnFnIhJh4nu4rxCs">In Flames</a>. In her teenage years, she gravitated toward the latter style, sneaking black outfits in her school bag to wear at clubs after hours. Having studied musical theater and flute performance, Christiensen honed her musical style while working by day as an elementary school teacher, an occupation she left only a few years into her recording career. COBRAH self-released her debut single, “IDFKA,” in 2018, and it was immediately noticed for its minimalist beats and a music video that picked up a Swedish Grammy nomination. A year later, she issued her debut EP ICON, which took aural and visual inspiration from BDSM wear and ballroom culture. COBRAH started to earn notice outside of Europe when, at a show in Stockholm, she was invited to perform on-stage at a <a href="spotify:artist:25uiPmTg16RbhZWAqwLBy5">Charli XCX</a> concert, flanked by a posse of drag queens. After releasing the single “Debut” the same week COVID-19 lockdowns swept America in 2020, COBRAH laid low, re-emerging with a self-titled EP in 2021 that left little to the imagination on hypnotic tracks like “Good Puss” and “Gooey Fluid Girls.” She was named one of 100 notable emerging artists at the top of 2022. A remix of “Good Puss” appeared later that year, adding a verse from rapper <a href="spotify:artist:76SlrtEaq2oViRXulxjfuM">CupcakKe</a>. COBRAH released her debut full-length, SUCCUBUS, in late 2023, her first release in a deal with <a href="spotify:search:label%3A%22Atlantic+Records%22">Atlantic Records</a>. ~ Mike Duquette, Rovi

Born as human, raised by pandas. Welcome to my bio! The name "Viva La Panda" was born when I, many years before, heard that the pandas were endangered - which made me want to start a "Help the pandas" fund. That never happened... But the name stayed. So when I came up with all these chilled out electronic house songs, I knew directly what to name the project! It just felt right! The whole purpose with "<a href="spotify:artist:5SZUMeZ1O9tcgkSkkx1dFy" data-name="Viva La Panda">Viva La Panda</a>" is to combine different electronic elements with organic instruments like sitars, steel drums, guitars, xylophones and... yeah you get it! Organic instruments blended with FAT bass sounds basically! Heavy, but still chilled! Everything to create a relaxed vacation feeling! Let me take you AWAY. Help save the pandas! Endangered means we have time, extinction is forever https://www.pandasinternational.org/ https://www.worldwildlife.org/species/giant-panda My personal email: Contact: stockholmprojekt@gmail.com

If much of DJ Seinfeld’s previous work was characterised by a sepia-tinged haze, a result of the producer’s deliberately lo-fi production techniques, then brand new album ‘Mirrors’ sees his music come firmly into focus. “On this album I wanted to retain a lot of the raw emotionality that brought people to my music in the first place,” says DJ Seinfeld. “but I also wanted to become a much better producer. It’s been an arduous process but it’s a real statement of where I’m at as a producer and person right now. I’ve been through various sonic explorations in the past few years but have come to understand what people like about my music and how to move forward with it.” ‘Mirrors’ is the follow-up to Seinfeld’s critically acclaimed 2017 debut album ‘Time Spent Away From U’. Named after a quote by his favourite novelist, Julio Cortázar, the album finds him in a more settled and grounded mood after an unfortunate family incident forced him to spend more time at home. “I saw this quote from Cortázar recently, which says ‘You were always my mirror, to see myself I had to look at you,’ and it just made sense in relation to this album. I don’t know who I am but perhaps it’s easier to see the silhouettes through things like heartbreak, family trauma, but also through the peculiar flickers of light and love that enter your life. If the first album was about getting past a breakup, this one is trying to understand who’s standing on the finish line. This album is my mirror.

Swedish artist Ehrling (born Harald Ehrling, 1995, Stockholm) began his musical journey at the age of eight, learning piano and developing a natural talent for creating catchy melodies. By thirteen, he was producing his own music on a computer. A pivotal moment in his early career came when his older brother heard one of his first tracks and asked who the artist was, which gave Ehrling the confidence to pursue music further. In the years that followed, Ehrling built a collection of songs and found his signature sound, the saxophone. He chose the sax because it allowed him to express emotions like a vocal melody would. In 2018, Ehrling's music gained traction among travel vloggers on YouTube, whose tropical-themed content aligned perfectly with his style. This exposure helped him become one of the top three most-used artists on the platform. Since then Ehrling has continued his career by releasing more music and doing shows at some of Swedens biggest festivals like; Summerburst, Lollapalooza.

Oliver Nelson was a distinctive soloist on alto, tenor, and even soprano, but his writing eventually overshadowed his playing skills. He became a professional early on in 1947, playing with the Jeter-Pillars Orchestra and with St. Louis big bands headed by George Hudson and Nat Towles. In 1951, he arranged and played second alto for Louis Jordan's big band, and followed with a period in the Navy and four years at a university. After moving to New York, Nelson worked briefly with Erskine Hawkins, Wild Bill Davis, and Louie Bellson (the latter on the West Coast). In addition to playing with Quincy Jones' orchestra (1960-1961), between 1959-1961 Nelson recorded six small-group albums and a big band date; those gave him a lot of recognition and respect in the jazz world. Blues and the Abstract Truth (from 1961) is considered a classic and helped to popularize a song that Nelson had included on a slightly earlier Eddie "Lockjaw" Davis session, "Stolen Moments." He also fearlessly matched wits effectively with the explosive Eric Dolphy on a pair of quintet sessions. But good as his playing was, Nelson was in greater demand as an arranger, writing for big band dates of Jimmy Smith, Wes Montgomery, and Billy Taylor, among others. By 1967, when he moved to Los Angeles, Nelson was working hard in the studios, writing for television and movies. He occasionally appeared with a big band, wrote a few ambitious works, and recorded jazz on an infrequent basis, but Oliver Nelson was largely lost to jazz a few years before his unexpected death at age 43 from a heart attack. ~ Scott Yanow

Flamboyant, Viking-like Swede Bo Martin Erik "E-Type" Eriksson was a prominent figure in the Scandinavian club/dance scene throughout the '90s and early 2000s. After putting in time as a drummer for the Scandinavian metal group <a href="spotify:artist:6CKpkR0ehJkFtxjtOOo2Kn">Hexenhaus</a> and as a DJ for Z-TV, E-Type released his first single as a solo artist, "I'm Falling," in 1993. The single flopped, but E-Type regrouped over the course of the following year and broke into the Swedish music scene with the <a href="spotify:artist:1rjeVTt9Ra1ldvN7SpeK0G">Max Martin</a>-produced single "Set the World on Fire." The track soared to number one on the Swedish dance charts, paving the way for the release of E-Type's second single, "This Is the Way." E-Type's debut full-length, Made in Sweden, came out soon after, peaking at number two on the Swedish albums chart. E-Type's second album, The Explorer, followed two years later, featuring singles like "Free Like a Flying Demon" and "Calling Your Name." Another full-length, Last Man Standing, which featured the singles "Angels Crying" and "Here I Go Again," came out in 1998. E-Type's first book, Sveakampen, a memoir of sorts in which the artist's friends and family were depicted as Vikings, was published two years later, and his third full-length, Euro IV Ever, hit stores in late 2001. Loud Pipes Save Lives followed in 2004, featuring the single "Paradise," and another single, "True Believer," hit the Scandinavian airwaves three years later. ~ TiVo Staff, Rovi

On 2001's The Knife, they combined gender-defying pitch-shifted vocals, electronics that alluded to '80s pop and experimental techno, lyrics that explored queer perspectives, and a mordant sense of humor into subversively catchy songs, a skill they honed on 2003's Deep Cuts and its radiant single "Heartbeats." Over time, the duo's music grew darker and more ambitious. On 2006's masterpiece Silent Shout, the Knife balanced frostbitten sonics with affecting songwriting; on 2010's Tomorrow, In a Year, they helped reinvent the possibilities of opera in the 21st century. They remained fearlessly creative on 2013's final album Shaking the Habitual, culminating a body of music that inspired countless other artists to bring a razor-sharp edge to electronic music. Karin and Olof Dreijer started making music together in mid-1999 in a small barn on the west coast of Sweden near Gothenburg. Not long before, Karin's previous group <a href="spotify:artist:4oYyv7C1NNw13Id6s7LsuK">Honey Is Cool</a> had disbanded, and they sought out the help of 17 year-old Olof with programming and production. As they collaborated, Karin's experimental pop instincts and Olof's passion for dance music and jazz combined in fresh ways. Dubbing themselves the Knife, they issued their debut single "Afraid of You," which introduced the pitch-shifted vocals and spiky electro pop they explored on their later releases, in August 2000 on their own <a href="spotify:search:label%3A%22Rabid+Records%22">Rabid Records</a> label. Further sessions in Gothenburg and Stockholm completed February 2001's debut album The Knife, which added industrial textures and whimsical touches like panpipes and saxophone to the duo's sound. Acclaim for the album led to the Knife scoring the film Hannah Med H, and their pay for the project allowed Karin and Olof to quit their day jobs and focus on their music. The Knife spent much of 2002 recording their second album, Deep Cuts. Appearing in January 2003, the album sharpened the duo's hooks and subversive politics and built on The Knife's praise, eventually reaching number 11 on the Swedish charts. The Knife were uncomfortable with the personal attention that success bought them, so they began to wear masks and boycotted the 2003 Swedish Grammis ceremony. Instead, they sent two representatives of the feminist group Guerrila Girls in gorilla masks and t-shirts emblazoned with the slogan "50/50" to collect their award for Pop Group of the Year and protest the dominance of male acts in the music industry. That year, <a href="spotify:artist:6xrCU6zdcSTsG2hLrojpmI">Jose Gonzalez</a>'s cover of their single "Heartbeats'' gave them greater fame around the world. In February 2004, a self-titled EP preceded the U.K. release of The Knife in March. Around that time, Karin and Olof Dreijer began creating their third album, first working unusual locations that included a former carbon dioxide factory and the vaults of Stockholm's Grand Church before finishing their sessions in a more conventional studio. While making the album, the Knife performed their first-ever live show in early 2005 at London's ICA, appearing with <a href="spotify:artist:5zbQoW1WWTzvITE8w4ckoC">Rex the Dog</a> (who also did a remix of <a href="spotify:artist:6xrCU6zdcSTsG2hLrojpmI">González</a>'s version of "Heartbeats") and playing in front of video created for the event by artist <a href="spotify:artist:1oUMbbyTTWKZAEvBrh8cg3">Andreas Nilsson</a>. His work also appeared on How I Found the Knife, a DVD/CD set that included all of the band's videos, short films, and remixes, which was released a few months later. Drawing upon childhood memories, '90s techno and trance, and Charles Burns' comic book Black Hole among other inspirations, February 2006's Silent Shout gave a moodier cast to the Knife's sound and more personal perspective to their songwriting. Along with considerable critical acclaim, the album also garnered the duo more popularity at home and worldwide: Silent Shout topped the Swedish charts, reached number 28 in the U.K., and peaked at number 12 on the Top Dance/Electronic Albums chart in the U.S. The Knife played a handful of European, Scandinavian, and North American dates in 2006, accompanied by more of <a href="spotify:artist:1oUMbbyTTWKZAEvBrh8cg3">Nilsson</a>'s visuals. That October, <a href="spotify:search:label%3A%22Mute%22">Mute</a> reissued The Knife and Deep Cuts. At the 2007 Swedish Grammis ceremony, the Knife won six awards, including Album of the Year and Artist of the Year. That July saw the release of a deluxe edition of Silent Shout that featured a DVD and live album of the group's April 2006 performance in Stockholm as well as music videos. Once the Knife's promotional duties for Silent Shout were completed, the Dreijers embarked on individual projects. Karin launched their solo career as <a href="spotify:artist:5hE6NCoobhyEu6TRSbjOJY">Fever Ray</a>, working with Silent Shout collaborator Christoffer Berg on 2009's self-titled debut album, while Olof issued a series of EPs of ambient techno as <a href="spotify:artist:6pybt7x9B6bbxxlgcCtNMW">Oni Ayhun</a>. Midway through these projects, the Danish theater company Hotel Pro Forma commissioned the Knife to write the music for an opera commemorating the 100th anniversary of Charles Darwin's On the Origin of the Species that would be performed at Copenhagen's Danish Royal Opera House. Working with <a href="spotify:artist:5yFDk6RGc7buEujo4n8qxr">Mt. Sims</a> and <a href="spotify:artist:7qHOphlWaJrfFa0BqpayDG">Planningtorock</a>, the duo recorded the music in Berlin, Stockholm, and Copenhagen over the course of 2008 and 2009. A studio version of the piece, Tomorrow, in a Year, was released in March 2010. A lengthy work featuring mezzo-soprano Kristina Wahlin, a halldorophone, and environmental sounds recorded near the Amazon river, Tomorrow, in a Year was more challenging than the Knife's previous work but still fared respectably on the charts: It reached number 24 in Sweden and peaked at number ten on the Dance/Electronic Albums chart in the States. Later in 2010, the Knife began working on new music shaped by Olof's participation in a gender studies course as well as the writings of French philosopher Michel Foucault. Preceded by the singles "Full of Fire" and "A Tooth for an Eye," April 2013's Shaking the Habitual was an unsettling 90-minute meditation on topics including gender theory, economic inequality, and the environment. The album earned praise for its ambition and unwavering viewpoint, and was a top ten hit in Sweden. The Knife's tour in support of the album was equally ambitious, incorporating a rave-like atmosphere and elaborate choreography designed by an all-female creative team. While on tour, the duo composed the music for Europa Europa, an anti-nationalist cabaret conceived of by the Swedish art group FUL. In June 2014, they released the mini-album Shaken Up Versions, a collection of some of the band's songs as they were performed on the Shaking the Habitual tour. That November, the Knife disbanded. Karin continued to release music as <a href="spotify:artist:5hE6NCoobhyEu6TRSbjOJY">Fever Ray</a>, while Olof pursued DJing and producing. In 2020, the Knife celebrated their 20th anniversary by making their music available on streaming services. The following year, they reissued Silent Shout on vinyl and streamed a 2006 concert online. ~ Heather Phares, Rovi

With a sense of humor as big as their bass drops, Swedish duo Dada Life separated themselves from the EDM competition as they rose to fame during the 2010-2011 season. Stockholm-based DJs/producers Olle Corneer and Stefan Engblom came together in 2006, combining pop-leaning electro sounds (the "Life" bit) with absurd slogans -- "Bass don't cry," "Never bring your brain to a rave" -- and an over-the-top attitude that reflected the avant-garde art movement of the 1910s and '20s ("Dada"). Their single "The Great Fashonista Swindle" (2006, Pickadoll) parodied the Sex Pistols with its artwork, "The Great Smorgasbord" (2006, Southern Fried) introduced their love of processed meat, while "Do the Dada" (2007, Alphabet City) introduced their love of being self-referential, but all of them would fill the floor wherever slick electro was welcomed. They went official in 2009 with their debut album Just Do the Dada, released by the Hussle label and featuring track titles like "Don't Snort the Yellow Snow" and "So You Wanna Be a Prankster?" A tour followed introducing Europe to their kinetic live show where inflatables flew through the crowd, while booking agents were forced to "Do the Dada" themselves, as the duo's tour rider stated that the backstage area must be filled with champagne and bananas, or the venue was punished with a tech-house set, all tracks being 188 BPM or below. The year 2010 saw them touring with Tiësto, remixing everyone from Kylie Minogue to Chickenfoot, and collaborating with Dimitri Vegas, Like Mike, and Tara McDonald for the hit, "Tomorrow (Give In to the Night)." In 2011 they headlined the Electric Daisy Festival in Los Angeles -- augmenting their set with a live marching band -- dropped the hit "Kick Out the Epic Motherf*&cker" single on their own So Much Dada label, and released their computer audio plug-in, the Sausage Fattener, allowing fellow laptop producers access to "sausage fat" bass. Their new logo, two bananas forming a crest around a champagne bottle, debuted on their 2011 single "White Noise/Red Meat" and was featured on their sophomore album, 2012's The Rules of Dada. ~ David Jeffries

Cazzette may have been part of the Swedish EDM explosion of 2012, but they quickly distinguished themselves from Dada Life, Swedish House Mafia, and the rest of the competition when they announced that their official debut would be the first ever released exclusively on a streaming music site. Members Sebastian Furrer and Alexander Björklund were two Stockholm producers who joined forces in 2011. After meeting manager Ash Pournouri, the three combined two of the favorite strains of dance music -- dubstep and house -- for a sound they called "dubhouse." Bootlegs of Swedish House Mafia and Kanye West tracks introduced their dubhouse to loyal EDM fans, and through Pournouri, they were able to bring this sound to the masses when they made their official debut in 2011 with a remix of Avicii's single "Sweet Dreams." They were signed by Avicii and Pournouri's management company, At Night Management, that same year and hired to do an official remix of Swedish House Mafia's "Save the World." Released at the same time, their bootleg remix of Adele's "Set Fire to the Rain" was nearly as significant, climbing to number one on Hype Machine's chart of trending downloads. Gigs at XS and Surrender in Las Vegas, Ushuaia in Ibiza, and Radio City Music Hall in New York City followed, along with main-stage slots at festivals like Creamfields, Ultra, and Tomorrowland. In 2012, they released the single "Beam Me Up," and the Strictly Rhythm label collected some of their best remixes and productions on the mix CD Strictly Cazzette. Also in 2012, they made headlines when their debut album, Eject, became the first major debut issued exclusively via streaming. Two years later, their "Sleepless" single went gold in Sweden. In 2015, Cazzette returned with the EP Desserts, which featured collaborations with Newtimers and Sterling Fox. Despite, or perhaps because of, the duo's success, they announced in 2016 that they would stop touring their live show and focus solely on studio work instead. That same year they delivered the track "Blue Sky," featuring Laleh. In 2017 they collaborated with London-based singer Jones on the single "Handful of Gold." ~ David Jeffries

A DJ, remixer, and artist in his own right, the multi-talented StoneBridge has been a fixture on the house music scene for the last two decades. Born in Stockholm, StoneBridge (real name Sten Hallstrom) began DJing in the early '80s spinning funk and disco records at his own club night, Fellini. Inspired by the dance records he heard from Chicago, he made the switch to house music and began remixing tracks with several of Sweden's biggest DJs under the name SweMix. Thanks to an ever growing reputation, he was asked to remix records for the likes of De La Soul and Titiyo, but it was his production of Robin S' "Show Me Love," one of the biggest-selling house records of all time, that put him firmly on the map. He soon became one of the most in-demand remixers in the industry, and worked on tracks by the likes of Robbie Williams, Will Smith, and Lenny Kravitz. After forming his own label, Stoney Boy Music, he released several compilation albums, and also worked on his own original material. Can't Get Enough was released in 2004, featuring the anthemic Top Ten hits "Put Em High" and "Take Me Away," both featuring guest vocals from Swedish pop star Therese, plus "Freek On," a collaboration with Ultra Naté. The album's success led to several residencies across the world, including The Cross in London and Family in Brisbane, and a radio show on satellite radio in the U.S. His second album, Music Takes Me, was released in 2007. During the next two years, he was active in remixing (Britney Spears, New Kids on the Block, Sophie Ellis-Bextor, and Ne-Yo, with the latter earning him a Grammy nomination), and also released a Stoney Boy compilation as well as several volumes in his mix series, Flavour the Vibe. Tech-house producer John Dahlbäck was born in Stockholm, Sweden, in 1985. At a very young age his family moved away to a smaller village outside of Stockholm, where the young Dahlbäck learned musicianship from his parents and immediate family, all of whom are musicians. His older cousin Jesper (an accomplished producer and DJ in his own right) got Dahlbäck involved in electronic music production, and his debut 12" was issued on the cult Chicago house label Deep4Life in 2002, when Dahlbäck was at the tender age of 17. Several dozen productions and remixes followed on many esteemed labels (including Germany's Kompakt under the guise of Hug), and his prolific output even eclipsed that of his older cousin. In 2005 he released his debut full-length, Man from the Fall on Systematic Records, and a second full-length, Shades of a Shadow, followed only weeks later on Little Angel Records. He also runs and operates the dirty house/techno imprint Pickadoll Records out of Germany. A full-length album entitled At the Gunshow is slated for release in the fall of 2006. ~ Rob Theakston

At just 24 years old, Jonathan "Oberg" Andersson from Sweden has been enveloped in music since his early childhood. "I started playing guitar and singing when I was five, and music has always been a part of my life, as nearly everyone in my family is musically inclined," Oberg shares. His musical journey took a pivotal turn in 2013 after attending an Avicii concert with his sister. That experience opened his eyes to the world of electronic music, with Tim Bergling (Avicii) becoming a significant inspiration for Oberg. "I began producing my own music in 2015 and shared it with friends. Their encouragement led me to pursue it further," he recalls. Oberg's breakthrough came in 2018 when he connected with Ninetone Records, leading to his first song on Spotify that swiftly climbed into Sweden's top 50 viral list. In 2020, Oberg released four singles, including "Take My Hand," which amassed over 40 million streams in less than a year, solidifying his status as a rising star in the music world.

Gidge is a duo consisting of Jonatan Nilsson and Ludvig Stolterman. Rooted in the city of Umeå, Sweden, they make electronic music that is shaped by field-recordings of nature that is both comfortable on the dance floor and in a more relaxing environment. Each and every Gidge track creates its own sense of atmosphere and emotion. Their work evolves naturally, often building to powerful peaks from a silent break that is tweaked with vocal samples and neo-classical influences. While being adored for the inspiration that is drawn from the forest, nature, and the north of Sweden, the music of Gidge has in fact been of an absolute international caliber and is listened to by people from all over the world. Gidge sold out club-tour shows in London, Amsterdam, Paris, and Stockholm, and played their live-set to crowds on festivals in Mexico, Georgia, Turkey, and Thailand. Blogs such as Pigeons & Planes, A Closer Listen, and Ransom Note wrote about their music - Pitchfork staffers chose Gidge amongst their favorite artists to listen to on snowy days - XLR8R readers voted Gidge to the #1 spot of ‘best new electronic act’ in 2015 - Bandcamp highlighted “LNLNN” as ‘album of the day’ in 2017. Owl Vision is a music creator and visual artist living in Gothenburg, Sweden. Darkness began in 2007 when Johannes laid his hands on an old CS01 synthesizer from 1982. With productions inspired by bands like The Prodigy and Justice, and a burning love for metal music, a new genre was born called Death Electro. The debut album "Comorbid" gave name to Comorbid Records and houses most of the artist's releases. While mainly working under the independent etiquette, with total artistic freedom, Owl Vision has music available on labels such as Universal, Parlophone, Playground, Dim Mak, FiXT and Kannibalen. But in the end most success comes from the very own label with Owl Vision having over 60 million streams on Spotify alone - music in commercials for Audi, Infinity, Warner Games and others - songs featured on TV-shows like Top Gear, Skins and Exposure. Since the first live show at a local bar in Gothenburg, Owl Vision has played at festivals and clubs in Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Switzerland, Austria and France. However, mental health issues in early 2019 forced Johannes to pause performing and turn down incoming offers. A struggle with severe depression stopped everything for a while before limiting it to creative studio work only. Now, several years later, Owl Vision is returning to the stage.

Stockholm, Sweden's Axel Boman DJs and produces shimmering, playful house music in addition to running the <a href="spotify:search:label%3A%22Studio+Barnhus%22">Studio Barnhus</a> label along with <a href="spotify:artist:0Ij7th9uWcDVYNAIOn5W22">Kornél Kovács</a> and Petter Nordkvist. His tracks are generally stripped-down, groove-heavy, and somewhat cheeky, although there are a few moments when he gets introspective and melancholy, such as 2011's "Depression 01." He occasionally collaborates with <a href="spotify:artist:1YvN5uOGQkHVUUlZUcnotD">John Talabot</a> as <a href="spotify:artist:0w1RQjkLFHpokbFNikYbPN">Talaboman</a>, and the duo released their debut album, The Night Land, in 2017. Boman's ambitious double album, LUZ/Quest for Fire, appeared in 2022. He began attending raves during the early '90s, and gradually became a fixture of Stockholm's club scene, first as a partygoer, and eventually as a DJ. Once he made the leap to producing tracks, he released several EPs on <a href="spotify:search:label%3A%22Ourvision+Recordings%22">Ourvision Recordings</a> starting in 2008. "Arcimboldo" (from 2008's digital-only Jungle Jesus EP) made a splash in the club world, and a 12" of remixes was released in 2010. That same year, Boman co-founded <a href="spotify:search:label%3A%22Studio+Barnhus%22">Studio Barnhus</a>, and his Holy Love EP was released by <a href="spotify:artist:1kR99O4MgSTasyeJh8UFCg">DJ Koze</a>'s then-new label <a href="spotify:search:label%3A%22Pampa+Records%22">Pampa Records</a>. "Purple Drank" became the EP's breakout club hit, and Boman became an in-demand DJ, producer, and remixer. The next few years brought EPs on labels like <a href="spotify:search:label%3A%22Play+It+Down%22">Play It Down</a>, <a href="spotify:search:label%3A%22Glass+Table%22">Glass Table</a>, and <a href="spotify:search:label%3A%22Hypercolour%22">Hypercolour</a>, as well as remixes for <a href="spotify:artist:2VvFUDg4FDXzEQkQdgWz9h">Harald Björk</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:4WgFczZafuUFBvsCuSK44C">DJ Hell</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:1oBQPdm35NiPSEWIx8Yl24">Wolfram</a>, and others. His debut full-length, Family Vacation, arrived on <a href="spotify:search:label%3A%22Studio+Barnhus%22">Studio Barnhus</a> in 2013, featuring the single "Fantastic Piano." Boman and Nordkvist, as the duo <a href="spotify:artist:34sEXQvltCoEKT9VsT3MBw">Man Tear</a>, released "Outside Amore" on <a href="spotify:search:label%3A%22DFA%22">DFA</a>. Boman formed the <a href="spotify:artist:0w1RQjkLFHpokbFNikYbPN">Talaboman</a> duo with <a href="spotify:artist:1YvN5uOGQkHVUUlZUcnotD">John Talabot</a>, and their debut single, "Sideral," was released in 2014, after appearing on <a href="spotify:artist:1YvN5uOGQkHVUUlZUcnotD">Talabot</a>'s DJ-Kicks mix CD in 2013. Boman's solo single "1979" followed on <a href="spotify:search:label%3A%22Pampa%22">Pampa</a> in 2015, and the Moon Dancer EP appeared on Third Try Records in 2016. <a href="spotify:artist:0w1RQjkLFHpokbFNikYbPN">Talaboman</a>'s debut full-length, The Night Land, appeared on <a href="spotify:search:label%3A%22R%26S%22">R&S</a> in 2017. Boman's second solo album, Le New Life, was issued by <a href="spotify:search:label%3A%22Mule+Musiq%22">Mule Musiq</a> in 2019. Hosini first turned heads in 2016 when his track Lucid Dreams received a sultry remix from All Day I Dream regulars Gorje Hewek & Izhevski and was rinsed by the likes of Lee Burridge, Martin Roth, Darin Epsilon, Lost Desert, and Pete Tong on BBC Radio 1. Hosini was welcomed to the industry leading Anjunadeep with a three track EP titled ‘Syna’ to close out 2017. The percussive dubby track Laomedeia was a Burning Man hit. Fully on the radar of dreamy house fans, Hosini was beginning his melodic ascent. Kyla, a groovy piece with fluttering vocals, appeared on the Shanti Radio Moscow’s Compilation of Peace in the summer of 2018. Seasoned ears yet again fell for the track with maestro Hernan Cattaneo, David Hohme, and Sebastien Leger providing full support. As a trained jazz pianist, Rasmus Faber had a unique beginning to an illustrious two-decade long career in electronic dance music (and latterly as a composer of TV and film music). Becoming a household name to fans of the melodic side of music in the 2000s, Rasmus’s distinctive approach to production led to releases on the world’s most successful dance labels and collaborations with major artists such as Axwell, Deadmau5 and Kaskade. Having brought his house productions to life via his latin music inspired world touring band Rafa Orchestra, a new live project was born called Platina Jazz; a Swedish big band covering Japanese anime songs resulting in 9 albums, many millions of YouTube streams and regular concerts all over the world. Becoming a multi-instrumentalist and procurer of exotic instruments has allowed Rasmus to create daring and boundary-pushing scoring and soundtrack works over the last decade. This kind of artistic progression is a keystone to his longevity and continued popularity exemplified by his album Two Left Feet which was recorded and performed entirely with live instruments by Rasmus. Unique is still the word that best describes Rasmus Faber and his career today. A uniqueness earned from two decades of success as an electronic music producer coupled with the knowledge and craftsmanship developed from working in the classical, jazz, latin, film / tv and computer game scoring worlds that allows for a deep understanding of how music really works.

Their love for dance music has also resulted in them having their own program on Swedish radio station P3 for four years, where they play the music they love. Later this year it’s time for Rebecca & Fiona's long-awaited fourth album – MEGA DANCE. The album is a perfect entrance to a euphoric dance floor at a club somewhere in Ibiza in 2002, where the piano dances around to Rebecca & Fiona's sexy vocals. On the album they have thrown themselves headlong into the dance music that, after an eclectic and sprawling 90s, has established itself as its own genre and always guarantees a perfect party every night.

BIO

Ten years of homing in his production skills certainly proves true the mantra that practice really does make perfect, at least that was the case with the uber-talented Manse. In his mid 20’s, the Swedish DJ is a prime talent that has swiftly risen through the ranks to become a label favourite for Revealed and Armada. Manse – real name Michael Hansen – has always had his eyes on the prize. Building on his growing catalogue of work in 2017 with highlights such as ‘Time Of Our Lives’ ft Jantine, as well as ‘Where We Want To Be’ feat. Maruja Retana which showcased more of Manse’s maturing sound pallet. Also dropping in the later part of the year was the huge ‘Flashback’ EP, giving back to his loyal fans more of his expertly crafted progressive house grooves he fast became revered for, picking up support from artists such as David Guetta and W&W. Closing 2017 with an epic remix of Andrew Rayel’s ‘Home’ on Armada, and a brand new Revealed Recordings release in January 2018, and things are only set to get bigger and better for one of Sweden’s brightest talents
