Pissenem described the campaign as “out of this world” and revealed that [UNVRS] aims to redefine nightlife by merging traditional clubbing with the grandeur of arena-scale events.

Scheduled to welcome its first visitors in 2025, [UNVRS] is poised to attract a massive audience, potentially accommodating up to 10,000 guests. Recently, a purported email from an Ibiza festival went viral, highlighting a DJ pay-to-play controversy at Ibiza. The email alleged that DJs were being charged a fee of €5,000 to perform at the event. “The price to play at the festival is €5,000. This includes the time slot and all promotion before, during, and after the festival across all our media platforms and international press coverage,” the email stated.

The image was initially shared by British DJ, producer, and music educator Arnaud Le Texier, who claimed to have received the screenshot from one of his students. “To be honest, this scene is done… I am really tired of all the clowns out there! If artists need to pay to play, then sorry, but you are idiots! Honestly, it is getting worse and worse,” Le Texier posted on his Facebook page.

The DJ pay-to-play controversy at Ibiza has sparked significant discussion within the industry. The Ibiza Global Festival, held since 2022 on Ibiza’s beach, has hosted artists like Roger Sanchez, Nic Fanciulli, and Amémé. The event’s organizer, Ibiza Global Radio, has yet to comment on the situation. The festival remains scheduled for August 9 and 10.

This summer, Swedish House Mafia will grace Ibiza with their presence for an iconic DJ residency at the renowned Ushuaïa, a premier destination for clubbing enthusiasts worldwide.

Following a lone performance at Ushuaïa last summer, the esteemed electronic music trio is scheduled to light up the stage every Sunday from July 21st to August 25th, marking their return to Ibiza for the first residency in over a decade. They join a prestigious lineup of 2024 residencies at the club, featuring luminaries such as Calvin Harris, David Guetta, Armin van Buuren, and others.

Beyond their six-week stint at Ushuaïa, Axwell, Sebastian Ingrosso, and Steve Angello, collectively known as Swedish House Mafia, will also grace several major international music festivals, including Garorock, Panama Open Air, and UNTOLD.

The release of “Paradise Again” in 2022, Swedish House Mafia’s highly anticipated debut album, reignited their musical journey, signaling a remarkable comeback after their impactful dissolution in 2013 left the electronic dance music community stunned. Prior to their hiatus, they had solidified their status as electronic music pioneers, headlining Madison Square Garden and gracing Coachella’s iconic main stage.

After the experiments carried out this spring in some European cities ( we talked about it in our previous article: summer re-openings) to understand if we could return to the dancefloor safely and following various festivals scheduled for the current month in Great Britain, the situation today is no longer as uncertain as a few months ago but not as beautiful as hoped.

Summer began a few days ago and the vaccination campaigns are proceeding at the speed of light but, unfortunately, the viral load of Covid, shows no sign of wanting to be eradicated once and for all.

Let’s try to understand how the various countries of the world have organized themselves to make the night-life work at full capacity.

Italy

Clubs re-opening is currently at risk despite the hypothesis of re-opening them within the first ten days of July with specific rules to be respected.
The idea was to allow only outdoor clubs to re-open and entry would be allowed only to those in possession of one of the three green pass certifications: vaccination certificate, recovery certificate or negative test carried out 48 hours earlier.
Maximum capacity would be reduced to 50%, including employees and anyone with a body temperature above 37.5 degrees wouldn’t have been able to enter.

With these modalities, Musica Riccione made a musical experiment entitled “The vibe is on”. From 9 pm to 5 am on Saturday June 19th, 3000 people with green passes (or tested negative) were able to dance again to the notes of an artist of the caliber of Sven Vath.

Another historic nightclub for the summer nightlife in Italy, Cocoricò, created a crowdfunding campaign to be able to start again definitively in October.

Finally, there are beaches such as Papeete or Samsara which, always in compliance with current regulations, have resumed their activities at full capacity.

For September, Nameless Music Festival’s lineup has already been announced, which will be held from the 9th to the 12th, contagions permitting.

Spain

The clubs have already opened but with set times and very strict rules.
For pubs and clubs it’s in fact mandatory to close at 3 AM in Madrid and at 3:30 AM in Catalonia, while in the Balearic and Canary Islands you can dance (strictly outdoors) until 2 AM.
This is why Ibizan entertainment destinations such as Ushuaïa or Hard Rock Hotel this year had to sponsor their facilities mainly as a luxury holiday destination and no longer as outdoor clubs with world-famous DJs.

France

July 9th is the date set for the re-opening of the nightclubs only to those in possession of the green pass. The mask is no longer mandatory but strongly recommended.

United Kingdom

Unfortunately, this is the country with the most Delta variant infections where most of the population only received the first dose of the vaccine. This is why all events scheduled for the month of June have been postponed to September.
Nightclubs, currently closed again, are set to re-open on July 19th without Covid tests or vaccine passports.

Germany

Outdoor events have been approved with a maximum limit of 1000 people (only 250 allowed indoors). In the Brandenburg area some clubs have already restarted but in other areas of the country, instead, they preferred to be more cautious and prudent, deciding to wait a little longer.

Switzerland

From June 26th clubs and dance halls have re-opened and are reserved only for people who will be able to show the green pass at the entrance.
Among the clubs that have taken advantage of this eagerly awaited opening, there is Mad in Lausanne. Here people are equipped with a QR code that ensures the possibility to participate in the event, dancing all night without masks, as if covid was only a distant memory.

Belgium

From June 9th is possible to organize indoor events for up to 200 people and 400 for the outdoor events, while from July 30th outdoor events will be up to 5000 people.
These restrictions have resulted in the cancellation of Tomorrowland for the second consecutive year which, again this summer, will have to refold on the virtual format “Around the world”. The dates set for the virtual festival are July 16th and 17th.

Netherlands

The clubs reopened on June 26th, as demonstrated by Paradiso Amsterdam which hosted Reinier Zonneveld.
However, ADE remains the most anticipated event of the year and, precisely for this reason, there is a lot of publicity because, if the trend of the epidemic has decreased (thanks above all to the vaccination campaign), it could be the first important music event of the year.

Romania

Untold received the permission to organize this year’s edition in September (from the 9th to the 12th), always keeping the progress of the pandemic monitored.
In September “Sound of Bucharest” will also take place, precisely on the 25th.
It’s the biggest solo show in Europe and the special guest of this year is Armin Van Buuren.

Croatia

Defected Croatia was scheduled from July 5th to 10th and the main clubs (we can mention Noa Beach Club in Pag) have also re-opened.
Ultra Europe, on the other hand, has been canceled and postponed to next year.

United States

The situation here varies greatly from State to State.
In fact, in Los Angeles and New York people have been dancing since the end of May, while in Illinois night clubs resumed their activities on June 11th.
