The Vision Behind the Name

Superaurora was born from a desire to create something bold, inclusive, and visually powerful. The name fuses “Super”, a Latin-rooted word symbolizing greatness, and “Aurora,” a universal word that evokes both the Northern Lights and the mystical energy of the cosmos. The vision? To build a galaxy where every year, festival-goers can explore new worlds each shaped by sound, color, and the natural environment.

A Bold Debut, a Stronger Return

Launching a new festival is no small feat. After a challenging debut in 2024, the team, led by Luca Carinci (CEO) and Andrea Antonelli (CMO) has raised the bar for 2025. Learning from the logistical challenges of the first edition and fueled by overwhelmingly positive feedback, they’ve reimagined Superaurora with higher production value, a more diverse lineup, and a deeper artistic vision.

Their ambition? To create something that can rival the biggest European festivals while staying rooted in Italian identity and creativity.

Music Meets Art, History Meets Nature

What sets Superaurora apart is its unique fusion of historic architecture, immersive soundscapes, and artistic expression all set within the lush, forested grounds of Castello Chigi. More than just a scenic backdrop, the castle carries emotional weight: during World War II, it was spared from destruction by a Nazi soldier who was so moved by its beauty that he disobeyed orders.

In 2025, this symbolic site becomes a canvas for cultural rebirth. Expect a Ferris wheel, video mapping installations, creative workshops, an artisan village, and a full camping experience, turning the entire location into a living microcosm where different art forms collide.

While music remains the heartbeat of Superaurora, the festival’s founders see it as just one element of a larger, transformative experience. Nearly 10% of those festivals are now fully dedicated to electronic music, a clear sign of the genre’s surging popularity and dedicated global fanbase.

Coachella 2025 offers one of the clearest snapshots of this cultural shift: EDM and dance artists accounted for a massive 39% of this year’s lineup—nearly double the representation of indie, rock, and alternative acts, which together held 21%.

But the momentum isn’t limited to festival stages. On TikTok alone, videos tagged with #ElectronicMusic pulled in over 13 billion views in 2024—a 45% jump year-over-year, and far more than tags related to indie or alternative genres.

The business behind the beats is booming too. The electronic music industry grew 6% in 2024, reaching a global valuation of $12.9 billion. Mark Mulligan, Managing Director of MIDiA Research, attributes the growth not only to the rise of subgenres like Afro house and drum & bass, but also to major innovations in fan engagement and community-building.

“The broader music industry kept growing in 2024, though at a slower pace due to plateauing streaming revenues and a cooling post-COVID live boom,” Mulligan said. “But electronic music continues to expand both its revenue share and cultural relevance. It’s entering a bold new era of global influence.”

In the early 1990s, two French musicians, Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo, formed an indie rock band named Darlin’ alongside Laurent Brancowitz. The band’s name was inspired by the Beach Boys song of the same name. Darlin’ released a few tracks, including a cover of “Darlin'” and an original composition, which were featured on a compilation EP. However, the band’s music received a lukewarm reception.​

A pivotal moment came when the British music magazine Melody Maker reviewed Darlin’s music, describing it as “a daft punky thrash.” While the critique was intended as a slight, Bangalter and de Homem-Christo found the phrase amusing and saw potential in it. Embracing the term, they adopted “Daft Punk” as the name for their new electronic music project.

This rebranding marked a significant shift in their musical direction. Moving away from indie rock, Bangalter and de Homem-Christo delved into electronic music, experimenting with drum machines and synthesizers. Their innovative approach and distinctive sound quickly gained attention, leading to the release of their debut single “The New Wave” in 1994. This track laid the foundation for their groundbreaking debut album, Homework, released in 1997.​

The transformation from Darlin’ to Daft Punk illustrates how a negative review can be repurposed into a powerful brand identity. By embracing and redefining criticism, Bangalter and de Homem-Christo turned a disparaging remark into a name that would become synonymous with innovation in electronic music.

Two Distinct Experiences:

Amnesia, established in 1976, is one of Ibiza’s original superclubs. It began as a haven for hippies, bohemians, and hedonists seeking freedom and eclectic music. The club’s open-air terrace was legendary for parties that lasted for days, becoming iconic in Ibiza’s nightlife history.
Pyramid, conceptualized by the Amnesia team, debuted in 2018 with a mission to bring back the essence of old Ibiza parties, focusing purely on music and experience rather than commercialism. This ethos resonated with clubbers seeking an authentic, raw experience, solidifying Pyramid’s place in Ibiza’s clubbing calendar.

For 2024, the festival’s high-priced ticket sales saw a sharp decline, reaching only $4 million compared to $9.7 million in 2023, resulting in a revenue shortfall of $5.7 million. Additionally, standard ticket sales and vehicle passes generated $3 million less than anticipated. Goodell mentioned that the organization’s goal for charitable donations has nearly doubled to $20 million, a target that must be met before the next ticket sales cycle in January 2025.

Burning Man considered early ticket sales for 2025, but Goodell noted it would be a temporary fix, as raising prices could exclude diverse participants and contradict the festival’s principles. Instead, the nonprofit has started restructuring its operations, cutting projected 2025 costs by millions. This process has included significant payroll and vendor reductions, resulting in layoffs of essential staff who work year-round to make Burning Man possible.

Goodell’s appeal emphasizes Burning Man’s longstanding commitment to independence from corporate sponsorships. “Our community has always supported us, and now, more than ever, philanthropy is essential to our survival,” she said.
